Anyone carrying an XDM or similar sized pistol in this holster? Opinion? I saw one at the range with another type pistol and wondered if it is a good carry rig and if it hugs the body closely enough to go OWB on occassion.

Hey Guys, I purchased my XDm .40 yesterday and it is the first pistol I have ever owned or really used for that matter. Pistols are relatively new to me. I did not notice until after I field stripped it and reassembled that when the slide is locked back the barrel wobbles a little bit. I'm assuming that is normal however I just want to make sure. There were no extra pieces. When the slide is in its normal position the barrel does not move. Am I just being a paranoid newbie or did I F*** it up?

I want to make my XDM FDE, is Cerakote infinitely better than Duracoat?

From around the internet I've read Duracoat scrapes off easily on pistol barrel due to the slide grating into it.

What would I need to make the slide and the frame, which are two different materials, the same shade? In some places I've noticed the slide will be a completely different shade due to the metal reacting differently.

And if I don't have the brass to do it to my XDM, I'll probably pick up an XD Service at a gunshow nearby soon. I've only just become more lenient in what I will do to my firearm. ;)

Heavier Guide Rod

Hi folks, I am new on here. I have been lurking for a few months and have learned a lot from everyone. Is anyone using the solid guide rods which are heavier and supposedly help with muzzle flip and recoil. I noticed the tungsten guide rod is 4 ounces and which seems like quite a lot of weight to add.

BTW I have a XDM 40 with about 3000 rounds through it and no problems.

XD(M) in .40 or 9mm?

Already have an XD .40.

I am buying an XD(M) in the next couple of days.

Question for the crowd: Do I get the XD(M) in 9mm or stick with the .40?

Is it easier to consolidate in one type of round or better to "diversify"??

I know that .40 has potentially more stopping power as well.

What say you?

Where not to oil? Here's what SA has to say.

I originally posted this in the General HS2K SA-XD Talk Forum. Thought you guys in the XD-M Forum might like to see as well since it's most likely applicable to both the XD & XDM.

I have the definitive answer to the question of "Where not to oil?" I e-mailed the local SA sales rep. Following is the answer, copied and pasted directly from the response. Now we know. Happy cleaning.

"The striker does not have to be absolutely clean and dry but it should not be soaked in oil and left that way. If you are cleaning your XD and get a little bit of oil on the striker just wipe it off as best you can and it should be fine. Some oil will end up on it and that is fine. Some people see that it moves and think that it should then be soaked in oil. This oil eventually combines with carbon and gets gummy. This gummy oil/carbon mixture will eventually slow the striker’s movement enough that it will prevent the striker from impacting the primer hard enough to reliably fire.

When you are looking at the underside of your slide back towards the rear you will see a squarish block that hangs down. This block is part of the striker and if you push it towards the rear you will see that it is spring loaded. Forward of the block the striker is cylindrical and moves in the striker channel. Behind the block you will see the spring. You want to keep excessive oil out of the striker channel and off the cylindrical part of the striker. If you look at your owners manual exploded view is on page 31."

using lead bullets (Non FMJ)

I am in the process of getting into reloading and the prospect of casting my own bullets seems fun, and cheap. Also when I was at a gun show last weekend I picked up 500 rounds of reloads for the outdoor range (it was a nice day that day) and a friend of mine and myself went and shot off around 400 of them (200 in my xdm and 200 in his glock).

Now here are my questions....

Do I need to do any special cleaning steps not using FMJ bullets to get any lead residue off of the inside of the barrel or is it really not that big of a deal? After that range trip i used my wire brush through the barrel after I let it soak in some break free for a few minutes and it seemed to be pretty clean. A guy at the gun show told me I should go over to someones table and pick up some chemical they sold that basically disolved any lead, he said its all chemical reaction and also that when you use it you can feel the barrel get a little warm.

Should I use something like that? If so, does anyone know what it is...I never did find it.

Thanks :)

I was told they don't have it in stock. They rarely do because it doesnt move very fast. They get them (All Springfield-Armory) and they tend to sit for months. They say Sigs and Glocks move much better. I was also told to stay away from the 40 since its a junk round. Least I tell you all I was quite shocked. To be Gun of the Year and not sell well? Has anyone else come across this, or is this guy a specialized dealer giving me a load of crap? Any info would be helpful. Bull's Eye, L.L.C. (http://www.bullseyestl.com) is the web address of the range I called.

Thanks

can the extractor be damaged?

After practicing with Azoom anodized .40 cal snap caps I noticed a buildup of material from the snap cap on the extractor. After inspecting the actual snap cap I noticed chips and marks around the rim where the extractor would rest. I also noticed the rim of the snap cap was very rough to the touch compared to a factory round. Spayed a little clp around the extractor and went at it with a toothbrush and it was easy to scrub away.

My question is, could the rough condition of the rim cause damage to the extractor? Am I being too picky and is this really nothing to worry about?

Just to see what would happen, I took a small file and went over the rough edges of the snap cap to make it smother. Not sure if it will prevent damage to the extractor but it definitely feels smother when I chamber one of the caps.

Just wondering if my XDm 40 mags will work in a XD40 sub compact. I would like to get a xd40sc for a back up gun, and it would be nice to be able to use the XDm mags if i needed to, even though they would hang out the bottom and look goofy, haha.

Thanks!

I have seen a lot of good info of late on bullet size, speed, penetration, knock down or not, but I don't remember seeing info on different bullet size (40 cal) and /or muzzle velocity and/or ft lbs energy as it relates to actual recoil. perceived recoil, and muzzle flip. Since there seems to be an agreement that one shot probably won't be enough to do the job in stopping a bad guy(unless you get lucky enough for a central nervous system hit), then the need for more shots for actual stoppage of aggression seems to be the next logical step. Soooo, is there any correlation of any type relating to muzzle velocity and muzzle flip, assuming same shooter, same gun, same ambient conditions, etc. I mean, it could be a simple answer, but I never met Newton so I don't know. And thank you all for your insight.

FINALLY took the XDm 40 to the Range and made sweet love

I have had this sexy babe for a while. Lots of life got in the way and I just now get her to the range to find out what kind of gunI bought. I had read all kinds of horrible, trauma inducing posts here and other places about misfeed, misfires and failures to eject. I was extremely anxious as to the kind of XDm I bought. Was it the good one or the bad one. People either post that it runs flawless or is a complete lemon.

I got a WINNER!:D:cool:!!!! The two mags had been loaded for a month or more, I cleaned and lubed the honey up a week ago in tense anticipation. It broke down like a dream. Easy and went back together just as easy. This instilled confidence.

Went to the local indoor range with my two older kids (girl 17 /boy 16). She had never fired a gun before so I went with what I knew and started her with my sweet shooting Bersa Thunder 9 Pro. This made her anxious so I went down to the Bersa Thunder 380 which was easier for her. Then she had to go to work so my son and I continued on.

This were the targets from our first mag from the 9 Pro

Her-Me-Him
Image: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/zz221/Hb13/1114091042.jpg

After she left,I brought out the XDM case and opened her up and loaded the first mag and racked her. What a feel. The weight of the real McCoy in my grasp. Aimed it down range about 12-15 yards and slowly squeezed the trigger. BAM! and the other 16 went similarly (using cheapo Federal .40 @ $13.47 a 50 box) then I loaded the other mag and let my son have a go. he has come to love the .40 like his Dad.

Here are the well worn targets, but after a lot of rounds from four guns. Most of the center in the middle target was taken out by my son using his new favorite gun....the XDm 40.

Image: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/zz221/Hb13/1114091133.jpg

I really had worried that I messed up by getting the 40 rather than the 9mm, as I had intended. The vast majority of the posts I had read about the 9mm version were positive. The majority of posts of complaint about the XDm series were complaining of their experience with the .40.

I am a new believer and proudly report my .40 behaved flawlessly today for five 17 round mags.

i bought another gun and when reading the manual it states to breakdown, clean and lube the gun before using it.

I do not see that stated in the XDM manual and I did not do that before firing it.

Obviously i am a newb but is this a necessary thing to not damage the gun?

FYI....I finally received my extended Slide Stop Lever (SSL) from XD Guys, and got it installed tonight in my XDm 40. It went in easy, and fit fine, but it did have a bit of a rub point w/ the mag, which kept the SSL from working smoothly. The factory original SSL has a bit of material removed just below the finger that catches the mag follower, but the extended SSL did not have this indent, and that was where it was binding slightly. After about 5 minutes w/ my good friend Mr. Dremel, it now works smooth as butter !!

I like the fit and feel of the extended SSL and I think it's going to be a welcome addition to my USPSA Limited gun !!

There is one less skunk around to tear up the yard, thanks to my trusty sidearm. :)

I live in a rural area where discharging a weapon is not prohibited, and we have had skunks & armadillos tearing things up forever. Tonight, I noticed this skunk in the yard, and decided his day had come. I could have run 100 yards to the house and back for my Ithaca Model 37, but I was afraid my target would leave before I could get back, and the XD(M) was right there on my hip, where it should be.

Anyway, I walked slowly until I was about 15 yards away, and crosswind (for obvious reasons). It was in a place where the ground sloped up behind it, and it's over a mile to the nearest structure in the direction I was facing, so I decided the shot would be safe (well, not for the skunk). When the critter found a spot it really wanted to dig and was stationary, I took careful aim and squeezed one off. It immediately started limping in slow circles, so I followed it until it was moving directly away, and a second Speer Gold Dot stopped it in its tracks. 2 shots, five seconds, dead skunk.

Man, I love the way this gun shoots. 15 yards, at night under a security light, at a moving target less than a foot square. I've never been better than an average shot, so this is mostly down to this great pistol.

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the LaserLyte rear sight laser for the XDM? I'm thinking of buying this and wondered if anyone had anything to say good or bad about it.

I have the XDm 40 and love it except for one small detail. I am not crazy about the 3 dot sight. I would love to have the white U like on the Glocks. This rear laser sight gives me that along with the laser.

thanks

In specific, I'm looking for the Kydex magazine holster, but have come up empty handed. Any suggestions? Also, the one that came in the box is ideal, but if you have a more efficent / durable mag pouch in mind I'll hear you out:D

Well I've been thoroughly enjoying my XD Sub but have been really getting into shooting and after trying out a bunch of different guns its quite obvious you are able to be just that much more accurate with a full length barrel. So I went down to the shop and picked up a new XDM 9mm (I skip the 40 cal, 9's and 45's for me.) The trigger is very similar to my XDSC, but still took a little getting used to. First few shots were a little low and left as i've heard before, but once I got he trigger down I was doing ok from 35', still need a lot of practice. Here are some pics.Image: http://purepursuitinc.com/images/xdm9mm.jpg Image: http://purepursuitinc.com/images/xdsc9mm.jpg Image: http://purepursuitinc.com/images/onammocan.jpg Image: http://purepursuitinc.com/images/35feet.jpg

I contacted the custom shop and they sent me a side view of the rear sight, but nothing actually showing down the sights or what they look like.
XDm .40 review (part 2)

I'm a cop in a large city in the southeast (ie high crime rate). I trust my life to my duty weapon, although I prefer to use my AR15 in a gunfight. After owning the XDm .40 for 3 weeks, and having put 1,500 rounds through it, here is my review of the pistol.

1. It shoots left of center at 25 yards. I do not use sandbags or a shooter's bench on the streets, so I do not use one at the range. I am VERY familiar with the "shooting error wheel" and the "Degrata Tactical" diagram for pistols. Three different range instructors had the same results. As we moved closer to the target, shots moved to the center.

2. A fully loaded magazine is HARD to eject with the 16+1 capacity. It does not drop free all nice and smooth like it does when the magazine has 15 or less in it. Extra frame pressure is NOT a good thing.

3. With medium sized hands, my left thumb (I am right handed) rested along the slide catch/release instead of along the frame and was semi-uncomfortable after several shots.

4. A grip safety is unnecessary on a modern combat pistol.

5. The pistol itself looked good, and aesthetics (eye candy) are important to me!

6. The pistol had great ergonomics, felt comfortable in the hand (medium sized backstrap for me), and had a low profile point of aim. That is a good thing. GLOCKs have a tendency to have a high point of aim (that is bad).

7. Recoil was very manageable in the .40, but I figure alot of this is due to the heavier weight of the pistol (30oz vs 20-22oz of most other polymers).

8. No malfunctions of any kind with 1,500 rounds!

Summary: for a duty weapon, ie combat pistol, I give it an 8 out of 10. If SA would fix some of the issues, this would be my "go-to" gun of choice for duty use.

i flat out just like the way my XD45 feels in my hand better than my XDM, but i want to be able to carry my XDM because of the better trigger, higher cap, match barrel, and because, for some reason, it feels better to conceal.

my question is this:

What size backstraps do you guys use with your hogue grips or any other slip on grip, and for more detail, for you guys with xdm's who also have xd45's, is there a slip on that makes the twp grips feel similar?

i have huge hands. i'm more accurate with the larger backstrap, but the smallest one feels the most comfortab;e. i'm thinking i'm going to have to use the smallest backstrap with a hogue to make it feel similar to my 45c.

gonna get the hogue grip and head to the range sunday, i'll report back then, i'd liek to hear your feedback in the meantime.

thanks in advance!

Hey all - I have been stalking these forums for quite a while now. Reading everyones thoughts and opinions. This is a great sight glad I found it. So I plan to get my first hand gun in the next few weeks. I am pretty sure I want the XDm 40, I like the idea of interchanging the 9mm barrel with it. My big question is bitone or not. I like the bitone, not sold on it though. From reading posts I see some have had rust issues with it. Just wanted to get your thoughts before I spent the money.

Thanks

Bad Ammo....

This is more of an ammo question.

Nothing disastrous happened but I was shooting my XDm40 with some older S&B, I was having some weird reports. One was extra bright/flashy at the muzzle like half the powder didn't ignite until it was clear of the gun, and 2 were so quiet and had so little recoil that I thought they were squibs.

Nothing stuck in the barrel as every time i had a weird report, I stripped down and checked the barrel.

Could the powder have gotten wet or something? It's a very screwed up issue. I don't want to scrap 2-300rds of ammo but I don't want to blow up my gun with a squib either.

I kept the ammo in a ziplock bag in an ammo can to keep moisture out but I'm thinking I need to contact S&B and try to swap out the ammo or something. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Well, I was at work today and I was talking to one of my NCOs about the .40. From what he has said, there is nothing positive about it? He was talking about how there is a spacing between the cartridge and the barrel? and he said you can do nothing more than what the factory loads, only less. What I am trying to figure out is, is there a world of a difference between the .45 and the .40? I would be pissed off for springfield NOT to come out with an XDM .45. lol. I just feel like I bought an epic failure caliber. At least I know it's better than the 9mm.

I would be pissed off for springfield NOT to come out with an XDM .45. lol.

I have several magazines for my XDM9. All of them work fine with the exception of the two that came with the gun. The springs seem weak to me and no longer hold open the slide after the last round. Were there issues with the magazine springs that were shipped with the original magazines? Where can I get new springs?

...at all distances...you can see in the picture from the range today at 10 yards. I think I'm grouping them not awesome, but OK. What do I need to do to correct this shooting slightly high and left? I shoot right handed with left eye closed with pad of finger on trigger, exhale partway then hold, fire, let off trigger til I hear click and do all over again. I'm currently using the large grip because I have large hands. Thoughts?

And who better to tell then my friends here at XDTalk.com ... I lucked -- and I mean LUCKED into a set of TFOs for the XDm recently and just had them installed at the dealer where I purchased my XDm from ... next day pick up and the sights are dead on and glow like there's no tomorrow.

I'll post day/dusk/dark shots later if anyone is interested and I have to give a shout to Gun-Tech here in Fort Lauderdale for taking care of the install quickly and professionally. Great group there.

ANyway, just had to gloat to someone that cared since everyone else just kind of drools and nods like they just got hit in the side of the head with a two by four when I talk about the upgrade .... now if they offered the same for the M&P 9c, I'd be happier than a pig in ... but I guess no luck there for now unless anyone knows something I don't?

Condition 1, cocked with one round in the chamber and a full magazine.

Again, personal preference, but the most popular are the following :

Dawson Fiber Front sights :021-006 Sight-Front/Sprngfd XD, XDM Cut/Optc, .160T x .100W/with Factory Fixed Rear Detail Page (http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=2500000-1094593470)

TruGlu Tritium Night Sights : TRUGLO - The World's Most Advanced Line of Fiber Optic Sights (http://www.truglo.com/content/products/firearm/handgun_sights/handgun_sights.asp)
Trijicon : Trijicon Springfield XD-9 / XD-40 / XD-45 / XD-357 3 Dot Front & Rear Night Sight Set SP01 FREE S&H Trijicon Tritium & Fiber Optic Night Sights. Printable Version. (http://www.opticsplanet.net/printable-trijicon-springfield-xd-9-xd-40-xd-45-xd-357-3-dot-front-rear-night-sight-set-sp01.html)

*Are the sights on the XD(m) hard to change?*
Yes. The front sight especially. There is currently no sight pusher for the XD(m) so you'd have to use a Brass Punch and a Hammer to do it. The sights are locked on really tight and it much harder to remove than any other handgun in the market today.

Warning: if you're not careful, you might scratch or dent your slide when trying to remove the sights on an XD(m). It is recommended that you engage the services of a reputable gunsmith to do it for you.

*Why is my XDm shooting low and to the left?*

*Is this normal wear on my barrel?*

http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-m-discussion-room-xd-m/118072-barrel-marks.html

*I know this has been asked before but do you carry with one in the chamber?*
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-m-discussion-room-xd-m/135097-carry-concealed.html
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-m-discussion-room-xd-m/100194-carry-concealed-one-chamber-ready-rack.html

*How many of you carry on in the chamber?*
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-m-discussion-room-xd-m/99077-1-chamber-during-ccw-honest.html

*I scratched my XDm with my pants rivits now what?*
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-m-discussion-room-xd-m/126948-xdm-gear-holster-rivet-jeans.html

*I have a scratch on my XDm how can I remove it.*
Cold Blue

*Why is my slide so hard to pull?*
Add more lube.

*How long will my XD last?*
Depends on how you take care of it.

*Does grip safety interfere with your fast draw?*
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-m-discussion-room-xd-m/116676-who-here-does-not-like-grip-safety.html
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-m-discussion-room-xd-m/116667-grip-safety-isnt-making-me-feel-so-great.html

*Does the grip safety really do anything?*
Yes, they have to be depressed in order for the gun to fire.

*What does "M" in XDm stand for?*
A lot more features than just one letter would convey. It stands for *MATCH*

Barsto, EFK Firedragon, Storm Lake, Pistol Gear, and XD Guys

What companies do custom gunsmithing work and or paint jobs for XD/XDm's?
Canyon Creek, Barsto, Robar, Powder River Precision, Springer Precision

Can you carry the XD(m) for everyday concealed carry?
Yes, most definitely.

Which holster should I get for IWB Concealed Carry?
Crossbreed Supertuck, Kholster or MTAC Minotaur

Where should I position the holster?
Depends on personal preference, but the most popular seem to be from the 3:00 o'clock to 4:30 position on the strong side.

How should I carry the XD(m), Condition 1 or Condition 3?
Condition 1, cocked with one round in the chamber and a full magazine.

What are the best sights for the XD(m)?
Again, personal preference, but the most popular are the following :

Dawson Fiber Front sights :021-006 Sight-Front/Sprngfd XD, XDM Cut/Optc, .160T x .100W/with Factory Fixed Rear Detail Page
Warren Tactical Rear Sights : PISTOLGEAR | YOUR ONE-STOP SHOP FOR ALL SPRINGFIELD XD
TruGlu Tritium Night Sights : TRUGLO - The World's Most Advanced Line of Fiber Optic Sights
Printable Version.

Are the sights on the XD(m) hard to change?

Why is my XDm shooting low and to the left?
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-m-discussion-room-xd-m/106566-xdm-shooting-left-so-looks-like-about-46-us-have-problem.html

I have a scratch on my XDm how can I remove it.
Cold Blue

Why is my slide so hard to pull?
Add more lube.

How long will my XD last?
Depends on how you take care of it.

Does grip safety interfere with your fast draw?
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-m-discussion-room-xd-m/116676-who-here-does-not-like-grip-safety.html

Does the grip safety really do anything?
Yes, they have to be depressed in order for the gun to fire.

What does "M" in XDm stand for?
A lot more features than just one letter would convey. It stands for MATCH

Hey all.

Just bought my XDm40 yesterday. Tonight was the first time I put rounds in the magazines. Haven't fired it yet.

1) I may just be out of practice... but loading the rounds into the magazine is a bit of a struggle. Once I got to the 13th round, I used the loader. Worked fairly well. But loading the rounds is much more difficult than my 4506. Does the follower spring relax after some use?

2) With a loaded mag in the gun, I have to press VERY hard on the mag release button to get it to release the mag. I also notice that I have to really give the mag a good solid pop into the gun to get it to catch.

Maybe these issues are all a part of breaking in a new handgun. But my 4506 doesn't have any of this. Easy to load rounds, easy to load the mag, easy mag release button.

Just wanna get a sense of whether this is a normal occurrence for this model. Anybody else experience any of this with the XDm40?

Thanks.

Among other things, my girlfriend has decided to buy me a shoulder holster for christmas. I told her to expect to pay around 130-140 dollars, from what I remember Galco's miami classic sold for around that much.

What companies offer shoulder rig's for the XDm?
Have you had any experience?
I'm looking for leather, and classy looking only.

I don't want any cheap "tactical" nylon and velcro holsters.

I like to dress up in suits often, I want to keep it within the style.
