Got a note from my dealer (DK FIREARMS HOME (http://www.dkfirearms.com)) that my RRA Preditor Persuit upper might be in his hands by tuesday, so I should have it by wed!! I put my order in mid Oct, and at that time he was told 2 to 4 months. Unless RRA has messed up the order, I should have it on wed.

My Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 mildot scope should be here today or tomorrow. Gun show this weekend, now to pick up a scope mount, and I'm gonna be set. :D

AR shooting practice distance

I have a simple question but I am sure the answer is probably pretty variable but ....

It's fun to sit jugs and pumkins and what nots out there 100-200 or more yards and pop them but what distances do you practice the most with your AR? In looking at some local shooting school course descriptions they seem to keep the distance at 25 yards and in. I've watched all the videos at Viking Tactical (recommend you watch them if you haven't) and those drills seem to be no more than 25 yards and probably more like 15-20 yards.

I would think it makes sense to practice all the way from very close pistol range to as far as one might feel comfortable taking a shot with SD in mind.

For you law enforcement and military guys/gals do/did you do a lot of practice at relatively close ranges?

Anyway, just curious as to what others do and what their reasoning is.

Thanks

After months and months of forum reading and research, I finally purchased an AR. I decided on the Daniel Defense XV. Costing under $1000 - combined with their $250 gift card - this seemed like my best option, and I couldn't be more pleased.

Dealing with Peach State guns was great and the people at Daniel Defense have been very nice and polite. Now comes the week and a half of waiting before I can shoot her. Within 6 months I've purchased an XDM 40 and a DDXV....I've caught the bug.

The XV is very light and seems to be machined well. The upper and lower had a bit of play, but it was nothing an accu wedge couldnt fix. I'll report back after the holidays with range reports.

I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for their insight and entertainment. Its truly a pleasure wasting time at work here. If any one has range ammo suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Hello again everyone!

I'm building a new range plinker, and was wondering what length of barrel I should be looking for, and any good links.

I'm looking at a 16" DD chrome lined 1:7 inch with threaded endcap(A HUGE plus for me.), but I don't know if this could accurately make shots at 200 yards.

The only local range goes to three hundred, and I like shooting two hundred, but I'd still like the option. I'd like a barrel that can shoot as many types of ammunition as possible.

Any ideas?

I am looking for a collapsible stock kit for my 5.45 build on a Spike's lower. I have a tan CAA UPG16 grip so I want the stock to match in color. I had planned to get the matching CAA tan stock and don't really care for the looks and the bulkiness. I really want an MOE kit from Spike's since it comes with their upgraded buffer but I am not sure if the Magpul tan matches the CAA tan.

I am trying to get the complete kit WITH tube, spring, nut, buffer and plate for around $100 or less. I am not going to spend more than that because its not worth it IMO. Any suggestions?

Friend of my dad is selling a few guns. One of them that caught my eye is an AR-15 as my friend is looking for one.

He's had it for awhile, so I'm not sure if it's preban or postban. It's a Colt Sporter HBAR model. Lower marked .223. has Fixed stock and 20" barrel. Upper has removeable carry handle. Bolt Carrier is the Colt specific unit. Lower has the sear block in it (not sure if they still do that?). I'm not sure if the barrel is original as from reading Colt's were 1:7, and this barrel is Marked "CMP 1:9 5.56". Overall the rifle is probably 8 out of 10. Friend is not too fond of the 20" barrel, or the fixed stock, but like any AR those can be changed. Is this rifle worth $650 ish, or would it be better for my friend to just get a bargin bin $599 CMMG rifle?

I have a Del-ton Midlength upper. The barrel under the handguard looked thicker than the barrel past the front sight post, so Im guessing its HBAR. I have a UBR stock on this upper now and I can definitely feel the weight difference with my other setups. I was wondering what kind of weight losses I can expect to see if I went for a BCM Middy that uses govt profile?

Thanks

and asked me to build it...with a very liberal budget ;)

The result:
BCM Midlength w/ Larue Tactical 12" rail
BCM M16 Bolt Carrier Group
BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle Mod3 (Large)
CMMG Lower Receiver
G&R LPK + H Buffer
Magpul ACS Stock
Magpul Full MIAD grip
Magpul MBUS Front/Rear
Magpul BAD
1000 rounds of Prvi Partizan M193 5.56mm

Ordered it all yesterday, so many get everything before Thanksgiving hopefully. Nothing like father and son bonding like building an AR. However the bad thing is, this new AR is better than my AR

1000 rounds of Prvi Partizan M193 5.56mm

Ordered it all yesterday, so many get everything before Thanksgiving hopefully. Nothing like father and son bonding like building an AR. However the bad thing is, this new AR is better than my AR

Hello all, first post here.

Recently I went to a gun show and picked up a DPMS lower, and LPK. I also happened to see what looked to be a great deal.

A MagPul PRS stock at only $80! I got hosed, and it's a knock off. As soon as I figured this out, I contacted MagPul, and ordered a real one from one of their affiliates. Apparently it's an ever-increasing problem for them.

The internals are all there, and it feels absolutely solid. I pressure tested it with some heavy objects and it won't budge. Can I still use it until the real one I ordered is in? It says there's approximately a four month wait on it. Should I seat the screw with some blue loctite or glue the buffer tube to the inside of the stock?

Note, I have another buffer tube on the way with the MagPul (genuine) stock, so this one's a beater and will be discarded with no remorse once the better one shows up.

Ideas or comments? Some finds at a gunshow are good, others, not so much.

I picked up a S&W M&P stripped lower today. All I know so far is that I want an M-4 style with rails on the fore-end. I know nothing about free floating, pistons, gas blocks, sight options, etc. When I am done it should look a bit like this: (Img. loads slow)
Image: http://www.rguns.net/Graphics/Rifles/semi/AR/CompleteRifles/DPMS-M4Rifle-QuadRail-400.gif
Down the road I would add optics, but there ain't no point worrying about that yet.
Oh yeah, I would like to do it for less than $1000. (Minus optics of course) I have been researching here and there for info to narrow down my build options, but the wealth of info is overwhelming my ADHD! Can anyone recommend a single consolidated source (ideally a book) that I can follow start to finish so my head doesn't explode!?

I have a very noobe question. I have a DDXV with the 7in DD rails. I just ordered a Bushnell 4200 scope. I was going to get MI flip up front and rear sites. I am just confused as to what is involved in removing the stock front site and installing a rail mounted front site. Do I need to buy a low profile gas block? Do they make a gas block that integrates a flip up site? Do I have it completely wrong and removing the front site has no relationship to a gas block?

Again, I know this is a noobe question, but for some reason I cant get my head around this

I've been reading back on a lot of old threads in the AR section and it seemed like each month they had a lower on sale. Main reason I want a Spikes is that they are only like a 20 or 30 min. drive from where I live. This saves me the $30-40 transfer fee my gun shop would charge. And I'm not paying the $180 they want normally.

Considering a lot of the internet is people posting negative things and bad experiences, I just wanted to give a big thumbs up to G&R Tactical (http://www.gandrtactical.com). I've been keeping an eye out for a few Magpul products for a while (ASAP, MS2 sling, and BAD lever). I'd seen the ASAP in stock a few places, couldn't really find the BAD lever, and could only find the sling- and the place selling was charging about $65.

I found a threat over at m4carbine.net that said G&R had the sling it stock (in FDE, which I wanted). After lookin around their site, they had the other products as well, AND free shipping on orders over $100. I placed the order over the weekend, it was processed Monday, and I received everything today. Short sweet transaction. I certainly give them a big thumbs up on A.) having the stuff in stock, and B.) not overcharging. Not to mention prompt processing and shipping.

As for the products, I'm glad I had the day off cause I've been playing with everything throughout the day and I very much love it all. I will say that wearing a collared shirt with the sling is a good thing! All in all, excellent stuff.

My old Black Hawk sling gave up the ghost, so I was thinking of replacement. I like the 3 point slings for versitility. I like to be able to carry it slung over the shoulder the traditional way, or canted at a 45 degree angle when being worn over the front or back. I am not a big fan of the verticle slung position where furtive movements insure that your AR slaps you in the nuts. Also, I am looking for something with some padding to avoide the "shoulder bite". I am attempting to put this on a COLT CAR that I replaced the carry handle with a flat top and then had an MI forend put on.

I have been mulling over serveral slings, and just can't make up my mind. Any suggestions from the sling experienced would be greatly appreciated.

I hate the light in my apartment at night, but the thread about KNS pins made me go take a photo of my current project. It's a Doublestar lower, Magpul MOE stock and TangoDown grip. I think I'll probably end up doing a lightweight (DD?) rifle length handguard and put some fixed sights on it to get the long sight radius. It will have a DD barrel (already purchased) as well as a DD carrier. I also used the KNS pins and the trigger is much firmer (not heavier...crisper maybe?) than other builds I've done.

So the word on the street is that my AR came today from del-ton. They say its on the UPS truck, so Ill pick it up tomorrow. I hope this is true, and that someone isnt pulling my strings. The UPS guy says its true and their was a note on my door that says my package from Del-Ton Inc. Came but I had to sign for it. So 3 weeks instead of 6 months. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

Hey all,
I bought a cheapie @ 'Dicks' for my XD(M) and it serves the purpose.

I would LOVE to get a spinner/resetting steel target for the AR style platform. I'm tired of shooting at 12"12"X1/2"Plate.

I have browsed some online catalogs as well as print ones, and some of the articles aren't so favorable (Fall over upon hit, cheap construction...etc; you get the idea...ahhh LaRue AIN'T an option!!!)

There is a cabelas about 60 miles away, and that woluldn't be a bad afternoon drive, but I would like to hear FIRST from SHOOTERS which they've had both BAD & GOOD luck with.

I'm an unployed stiff right now, so anything under $100 would really be ideal.

Looking to shoot in the 150-250 yard range. (PMC Brass)

Thanx for any links or thougts ahead of time!

Shooting 69gr. Sierra Matchkings. 21.7 gr. of AA2200 powder, Wolf srp. LC brass.

Four shots touching measure .429", center-to-center; flyer opened group up to .742", still not too shabby. I've decided to use the "Ayoob" method of measuring groups, so I'm hereby claiming a .429" group.

This was my first AR build. RRA 18" bull varmint barrel, JP trigger group, pulling @ about 2.5#.

I strongly dislike these pins! they serve their purpose but i find that they get in the way while holding and opearting the rifle spent 3 hours at the range and they were unconfortable and found that they were a bother while resting my trigger finger on the receiver...

Anyone have any thoughts on this??

Just thought I'd spread the love on this deal. I'm considering buying the 10-pak myself. I don't even have an AR yet, but I have never seen mags this cheap.

Unfortunately these aren't "name brand" so I guess it's a matter of luck whether you get some that are reliable for competition. If you're a plinker like me though, probably a good deal.

According to the home page, I have 472,573 new posts I have to read.

But in the meantime, maybe you AR nuts can help me a bit.

I'm finishing up an AR build, just got the barrel, gas tube and handguard today from the big brown truck.

I'm not 100% sure what I need to get this sucker going, though. Barrel nut? Delta ring? Barrel retaining ring? Love? Magic? Moly lube?

Magpul BAD lever review

Image: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/355sigfan/Semi%20auto%20rifles/ColtwithDescription.jpg
Image: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/355sigfan/Semi%20auto%20rifles/ColtLeftside.jpg
I purchased some BAD levers for all my AR's and installed them yesterday. I took them to the range on my patrol rifle today so I could get test it out before returning to work with new equipment. Anyway my fastest reload with the BAD lever and the coupled mags was 1.59 my average was 1.8. The drill I was doing involved having a target at 15 yards. I had one round int he chamber and an empty magazine. I would fire one shot reload and fire 1 more round. I did this about 60 times. My average times without using the BAD lever were .5 to one full second slower.
I then ran some type three malfunction drills (double feeds fails to extract etc,) I was able to get my clearing drill down to 8.1 seconds. Without the lever it used to be around 10. The drill being start with a induced type three malfunction and clear it and fire 2 rounds at the target. I did this 10 times. I would have done more by my hands were getting raw from all the reloading. I then shot 3 department rifle qualifications and was out of ammo at that point. I went through about 350 rounds or so. No malfunctions at all. I am sold on the BAD lever and on the Firebird 20 round 30 round coupler for my patrol gun. The 20 round mag allows it to fit in my rifle case and in the rifle rack. Yet you have a 30 round mag as a spare right on the rifle.

Got N4 lower in

I got a N4 lower because I wanted my Noveske to be all Noveske.
Started out like this.
Image: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/355sigfan/Laure%203%20gun%20set%20up/Strippedlower.jpg
Image: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/355sigfan/Laure%203%20gun%20set%20up/strippedlowerleft.jpg
And ended up like this.
Image: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/355sigfan/Semi%20auto%20rifles/N4description.jpg
Image: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/355sigfan/Semi%20auto%20rifles/n4rightside.jpg
Image: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/355sigfan/Laure%203%20gun%20set%20up/Noveskecloseup1.jpg
Then I put my Saber lower that was with the Noveske upper on my Saber upper.
Image: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/355sigfan/Laure%203%20gun%20set%20up/Saberlowercloseup2.jpg

Image: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/355sigfan/Semi%20auto%20rifles/Saberleftside.jpg
Then I took the LAR lower and finished it up. It is awaiting an upper. I am going to get a flat top for it and I plan on putting a Millet DPS scope on it and using it as a prize to give away at my three gun match this summer by random drawing.

I am still waiting on the results from the match. It takes the club a while to post them. Yes I know I have huge spare tire. Working on that flaw. Here is the rifle I am using
