I'm in the process of ordering some magazines and t-shirts from Springfield...sheesh, the site is slow...

Anyway, I was looking at the T-shirts that say "Where you point is where you shoot."

Anyone else think that that's a silly logo?

Of course where you point is where you shoot. It's where you pointed.

It would be better if it said "Where you point is where you hit", don't you think?

Ok, I'm kind of liking the new site changes. I was one of the people to start barking and complaining I didn't like it. Although it does clash with my work sites, I am kind of liking the new changes. I think this is because now more of the blue is gone. The blue and black did not work well together, but this is getting more tolerable. Sorry Mark.

As for the time, why is it taking so long to do all of this? It seems like it was background one day, menu bar one. What, buttons tomorrow? Maybe it's more work than I can imagine, but it doesn't seem like it would be that much. I would've much preferred for the changes to all be made at once, but I guess that's not possible.

I will say, I did read about some skins in other threads and would be very interested in having the option to use those if you're tossing that idea around. Until then, I'll post-pone the complaining until you say you're done.

I am beginning to re-evaluate my SHTF preparation, especially after reading this article:

The Argentina Collapse | The Survival Spot Blog (http://www.survival-spot.com/survival-blog/argentina-collapse/)

It's long, but a VERY GOOD read. It made me realize how many misconceptions people have for an economic collapse.

I know the basics for food, water, supplies, and rifles; but this article opened my eyes on the importance of handguns.

My current models that I want to invest in are CZ-75b, XD-45, or a 1911.

I LOVE my 1911s, but I'm not sure that they are a wise selection for this type of scenario due to there low capacity and skill required to maintain or repair after reading this very good and very long article (The 1911 Project: Introduction (http://how-i-did-it.org/1911-project/index.html)). The precision and the tolerances required by a 1911 are insane! Reliability of my 1911s are great under normal conditions, but SHTF is not normal.

I love the reliability and capacity of the CZ, but I'm not the biggest fan of 9mm and they are pretty complicated internally, which may not be the best option for a SHTF scenario. Simple is better, BUT, CZ will sell ALL the internal parts\spare parts for their guns unlike some OTHER companies.

I like my XD45, but it does not seem reliable enough to trust my life to in the long term and the spare parts availability are a joke. I've had many FTF (nose dives) and problems with the roll pins. A glock would seem to be the better choice, but I hate the way they feel and shoot.

Any thoughts after reading the Argentina article? I want to focus my investment in spare parts on one particular gun but I can't decide on which one.

Looking to see if there a easy/fun/silent way to kill squirrels while deer hunting. I hunt from a stand, and bait my area with corn. Well I think half the corn goes to the squirrels. They just sit on the pile all day eating or hustling it back to a hole for later. Is there anyway I can kill them without making too much noise to spook a deer? I am not looking to kill every squirrel in the forest, just the ones camping on my corn

The bar manager acted like I had an AR 15 with me at the table or something.. Anyone else had an experience like this?

I took an Adolescent Psychology course to round out my early childhood education degree. Yesterday, I had to leave daycare with a substitute and go to a small city high school and observe the students for a few hours. I stopped and took off my gun before I got there, put it in my purse and put my driver’s license in my notebook so I wouldn’t have to carry my purse at the school. Afterwards, I stopped at a nearby truck stop, grabbed my purse (with the gun in it) and went inside to put it on. After I put it on, on a whim, I grabbed a shooting magazine, a penthouse letters and a snack for the drive home. Since they ran my debit card as a credit card, I was asked for my ID! As you might recall, my driver’s license is in the notebook…in my truck. So, for the first time ever, I used my CCW as an ID while dressed up for my observation and buying porno and shooting stuff. I got a strange look from the clerk and a nervous laugh…the whole thing made me giggle!

I got a strange look from the clerk and a nervous laugh…the whole thing made me giggle!

Is it considered CCW to have my XDm in a backpack??

I plan on doing a little camping/backpacking this Thanksgiving with my gf. I don't have my CCW yet and was wondering if it was legal to have my XDm in a zippered pistol case in my backpack. I'll be in Florida the whole time. I also have to check because I'll be in a State Park and I'm not sure what they're regulations are. I'd like to have my gun because we'll be about 7-8 miles from anything with the tents set up next to a trail. There's hogs in the park but I've never seen one. I guess I'm more concerned about people than hogs.

1st step to owning a suppressor??

Im a Missouri resident, and what to purchase a suppressor in the future. I just received my Form for a Curio and Relic which from what I understand is a FFL that qualifies. Am I on the right track and if so, then what is the next process? How long does it normally take for all of this to go through?

Thanks Guys:D

Hey! I like the XD red and black, but my personal view of the current background is that it is rather dark and bleak. I think we need a happier set of colors, regardless of the symbolism.

Im thinking about getting one, just to carry around to college and to have after basic training... just for web browsing, portability..and the price isnt bad either.

I have a few USB flash drives around that I could use to keep pictures, videos, etc.. on but the notebook has a slot for an SD card... Is that a card reader or what? What will happen if I put a 16gb SD card in that slot? Will it just give me 16gb more of HD space?

If you’re frustrated by poor service at a restaurant, think twice before you decide to not tip. You may be in for a bit more than just a dirty look from the waiter.
"Nobody, nobody wants to be forced to pay a tip or be arrested for terrible service," Leslie Pope said when her happy hour ended in handcuffs.
Pope (http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/topics?topic=Leslie+Pope) and John Wagner (http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/topics?topic=John+Wagner) were hauled away by police and charged with theft for not paying the mandatory 18 percent gratuity totaling $16 after eating at the Lehigh Pub in Bethlehem, Pa. (http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/topics?topic=Bethlehem+(Pennsylvania)) with six friends.
Pope claimed that they had to wait nearly an hour for their order and that she had to get napkins and silverware for the table herself.

“At this point I became very annoyed because I had already gone up to the bar myself to have my soda refilled because the waitress never came back,” Pope said.
After the $73 bill came, the group paid for food, drinks, and tax but refused to pay the tip. After explaining the bad service to the bartender in charge, Pope claimed he took their money and called police. The couple was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car.
“I understand that, you know, we didn’t pay the gratuity, but it was a gratuity, it wasn’t something that was required,” said Wagner.
The owner admitted that the group waited unusually long for their food, but said the pub was extremely busy that night. He said managers offered to comp the food, a claim the couple denies ever happened.
“Obviously we would have liked for the patron and the establishment to have worked this out without getting the police involved,” said Deputy Police Commissioner Stuart Bedics.
Police charged them with theft since the gratuity was part of the actual bill. However, it is doubtful that the charges will hold up in front of a judge. The couple is scheduled to appear in court next month.

Pope and John Wagner were hauled away by police and charged with theft for not paying the mandatory 18 percent gratuity totaling $16 after eating at the Lehigh Pub in Bethlehem, Pa. with six friends.

Hi Guys,

I just picked up a new 32" Vizio at Costco. While the picture overall is great, I have noticed something that is bugging me. When the screen goes black, I notice a bright spot on the lower left corner. Nothing terrible looking, but the irregular brightness catches my eye.

Is this normal on these less expensive sets? Should I exchange it for a different model?

Edit: Although I am not an AV nut, everyone in the family would tell you I have a pet peeve for incorrect video settings. I am the guy in the movie theater that will get up and go tell the manager about something that is bothering me... This is most likely something very few people notice and I wish it didn't bother me...

Denver cops catch credit union robbers - The Denver Post (http://www.denverpost.com/ci_13823321)

"The manager fled toward the bus bench, hoping to get help from the man who was there, but he pulled a gun on her as well."

"The man waiting for the bus was an accomplice, police said."

That must've sucked; you think that you're going to get help and it ends up being another bad guy.

"It was cool!" said Montoya, who admits to being a huge fan of the show "Cops." "I was loving it. It was pretty cool." The cops "looked just like the guys on TV."

3 of the 4 bad guys have been caught. The 4th, a female, is still on the loose.

There isn't any information on whether the family had firearms or not (and just weren't able to access them when the invasion started). I don't think I'd expect a home invasion to occur on a Sunday morning, but I guess the lesson is to always be prepared.

There will be 5 of us total and one is under 21 so probably won't be hitting up many bars if any. What all is there to do around the area, and maybe some good restaurants.
Also what is the weather usually like around this time. I live in Michigan and it should take around 24 hours give or take of driving time  Is there anything I should know about this area good or bad?

Any advice on smoking a turkey considering my setup? Can I smoke and cook the bird all in one effort or do I smoke for about 10-12 hours and then throw it in the oven for awhile?

gobble, gobble.

*NATO Warship Disrupts Pirate Attack Off Somalia*

http://www.manw.nato.int/pdf/Press%20Releases/ALVARES%20CABRAL%20PR-2009%20-19NOV09.pdf

GULF OF ADEN: At 08:44 this morning whilst on patrol in the Gulf of Aden, the Flagship of NATO’s Standing Maritime Group One (SNMG1) received a distress call from a cargo vessel, which reported that it was being pursued by pirates and in need of immediate assistance.

The Flagship - Portuguese Navy frigate NRP Álvares Cabral, scrambled its helicopter and made best speed to intercept the pirate ship that was in waters 110 miles north of the Somali port of Boosaaso and 60 miles south of the Internationally Recommended Traffic Corridor (IRTC) – a route through the Gulf of Aden established to protect maritime shipping.
An EU Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) Spanish Maritime Patrol Aircraft also assisted in locating the pirates, and as the NATO warship’s helicopter approached the scene, the aircrew witnessed the pirates throwing a number of weapons and a ladder overboard.

Shortly after 11 o’clock this morning the pirate ‘skiff’ was boarded by a Portuguese Marines team from Álvares Cabral. The marines inspected the skiff and identified the suspect pirates, gathering in the process important operational information. On completion of the action the NATO Flagship resumed patrolling the sea area to protect shipping.

The four ships comprising SNMG1 are:
• NRP Álvares Cabral (flagship, Portuguese Navy)
• USS Donald Cook (United States of America)
• USS Stephen W Groves (United States of America)
• ITS Libeccio (Italy)

I'm so broke me and my girlfriend got married for the rice.

I'm so broke, if a trip around the world cost a nickel, I wouldn't have enough to leave the couch!

I'm so broke that I just went into McDonald's and put a small fry on layaway.

I'm so broke that if pickles were 10 cents a truckload I couldn't buy a wart off a cucumber!

Dobbins lost his eye in an accident and couldn't afford the price of a glass eye. So he carved one out of wood. But he was so self-conscious that he never left the house.

Finally, his friend Eddy came over and forced him to go out. "There's a dance over at the club," he said. "So what if one Of your eyes is made out of wood?"

"All right," said Dobbins, "but if anybody makes fun of my eye I'm leaving."

He went to the dance and stood around, trying to build up his courage. And then he saw a woman standing alone in the corner. She was very attractive, but she had a hunchback.

"She's worse off than me," Dobbins thought. "The least I can do is ask her to dance.

He walked across the crowded dance floor and approached the girl. "Would you care to dance?" he asked.

"Would I?!" she exclaimed.

"That does it," he shouted, "Hunchback! Hunchback!"

Paddy decides to go rabbit hunting, but when he gets to his favorite field he sees the village butcher is already there.

Paddy watches with fascination as the butcher holds his finger over a rabbit hole and immediately a rabbit pops out.The butcher grabs it and puts it into a sack.

He repeats this unusual but very successful technique until his sack is full of rabbits.

Paddy stops the butcher and asks him how he does it.

"Easy,"says the butcher. "Put your finger on your wife's p*ssy and then hold it over a rabbit hole. They can't resist the smell, so when they come out, grab them."

Paddy rushes home to find Maureen bent over scrubbing the floor. He lifts up her skirt and applies his finger as directed.

Without looking up, Maureen giggles, "Holy Moses, rabbit hunting again?"

XDTalk logo contest

OK all, it's pretty obvious the look of XDTalk is changing a bit, along with that we need to update the logo.

So, those of you who are handy with graphics, I'd like to see what you can some up with.

It needs to identify XDTalk.com clearly, color coordinate with the new black and maroon theme and fit the same size box/area as the current logo

A Springfield XD in the logo is a plus too but if you have other ideas, go for it

ETA: DO not use Springfields stylized "XD" letters or thier corssed cannons logo or anyother trademarked logos.

I'll pick the top 3 and the members can vote on those.

Winner gets $200, I will retain final ruling authority.

Have at it

thanks

So I was in the middle of playing multiplayer Deathmatch Modern Warfare 2 when my internet crapped out. I ended up doing something I haven't done ever. It all started with me dragging my "sniper" rifle out from under my bed and looking it over and then oiling it. I then pulled the ROMAK 3 PSL from the gun cabinet and oiled that one down. Next thing I am on to the M1 Garand. I ended up pulling out every single gun and inspected each one and oiled each one. It took HOURS!!! I was a little disappointed in one gun. The only gun to have any rust on it was my Ruger LCP. It was WELL lubed with Tetra gun grease, but on one spot of the muzzle end of the barrel, there was a glarring rust spot. I rubed it out with oil, but it is discolored now. Just a tiny spot on the whole gun without the grease, and it found rust. None of my other guns were stored that oiled, and it was the only one to get rusty. BOOOOO.

FORT BELVOIR, Va. - A Soldier successfully shoulder-fired a "smart" High Explosive Airburst, or HEAB round for the first time Aug. 11 from the XM-25 weapon system at Aberdeen Test Center, Md.
The Army plans on purchasing more than 12,500 XM-25 systems starting in 2012, which will be enough to put one in each Infantry squad and Special Forces team, according to officials at Program Executive Office-Soldier.
At first glance, the XM-25 looks like something out of a Sci-Fi movie. It features an array of sights, sensors and lasers housed in a Target Acquisition Fire Control unit on top, an oversized magazine behind the trigger mechanism, and a short, ominous barrel wrapped by a recoil dampening sleeve.
Unlike a Hollywood prop, however, this weapon is very real and designed to accurately deliver an explosive round that neutralizes targets at distances of up to 700 meters - well past the range of the rifles and carbines that most Soldiers carry today.
"What makes this weapon system truly revolutionary is the ability to target the enemy, pass on this information to the sensors and microchips of its 25mm HEAB round, and have that round detonate over the target," explained Maj. Shawn Murray, a Soldier Weapons assistant product manager in PEO Soldier, the organization responsible for developing the XM-25.
"When the HEAB round explodes, the target is peppered with fragmentation," Murray said. "Our studies indicate that the XM-25 with HEAB is 300 percent more effective at incapacitating the enemy than current weapons at the squad level."
Because of the XM-25's unique TAFC and HEAB round, Soldiers will be able to engage enemy forces located in the open and "in defilade" -behind cover, such as walls, rocks, trenches, or inside buildings. The semi-automatic weapon's magazine holds four 25mm rounds and can be employed at night or during inclement weather thanks to the XM25's built-in thermal sight.
After only five minutes of instruction at the Aberdeen Test Center, Sgt. Logan E. Diveley from the 180th Infantry Regiment was able to put his first HEAB round through a building's window and take out an enemy mannequin at 200 meters.
When asked what he thought of the weapon, Diveley responded, "I've been in over nine contacts with the enemy during my two tours in Iraq. Their ambushes were usually initiated with an IED and followed up with small arms fire from behind walls and buildings, places where it was hard for us to get at them. The XM-25 would have taken care of things and made our jobs much easier."
Once downrange and in the building where the defeated enemy mannequin lay, Maj. Murray noted the limited collateral damage associated with the XM-25.
"Because of its pinpoint accuracy and relatively small warheads, the XM25 can neutralize an enemy without the need to destroy a whole building," Murray said. "For our counter-insurgency operations to be successful, it is important to keep collateral damage to a minimum and to protect the civilian population. I think the XM-25 will prove itself many times over in Afghanistan," Murray said.
The XM-25 is being developed by PEO Soldier, the Army acquisition organization responsible for nearly every piece of equipment worn or carried by Soldiers. This includes items ranging from socks, to weapons, to advanced sensor and communication devices. PEO Soldier bases much of its work on the feedback from individual Soldiers, developing or procuring solutions to meet those needs.
The development of the XM-25 is one such a program, designed to provide Soldiers a solution for dealing with enemies in the open and behind cover that is more precise, quicker to employ, and more cost effective than mortar, artillery, or airstrikes.
*A Battlefield Scenario for the XM-25*
An American patrol nears a walled, Afghan village when an enemy combatant looks over the wall and fires his AK-47 rifle at the oncoming U.S. Soldiers. The Americans return fire with their rifles and maneuver, but find it difficult to neutralize the enemy rifleman who repeatedly exposes himself for only a second, shoots, then ducks behind the thick wall. At this time, the patrol leader calls for the XM-25 gunner to take action.
Immediately, the XM-25 gunner aims the laser range-finder at the top of the wall where the enemy last ducked down. The gunner presses the laser range finder button on the front of the XM-25's trigger guard and records a distance to the wall of 451 meters. The distance is displayed on the TAFC's optical lens along with an adjusted aim point, or "cross hair," to help the soldier better aim the XM-25.
The adjusted aim point takes into account air pressure, temperature, and the ballistics of the 25mm round for the given range of 451 meters. The soldier then uses the increment button on the trigger guard and adds one more meter to the firing solution since the enemy combatant is about one meter behind the wall.
Upon pulling the trigger, the TAFC programs the HEAB round in the chamber of the weapon, telling the round to explode at 452 meters from launch point. The HEAB round departs the rifled barrel, arms at 30 meters, clears the top of the wall at 451 meters and explodes its two warheads at 452 meters, right above the enemy. The entire firing sequence takes the gunner less than five seconds to aim and fire and another 2.5 seconds for the round to fly and explode over the target, thereby clearing the way for the patrol to resume its mission.

I like the fact that it has a 4 round magazine! Seems kinda big and bulky for a "once in a while" weapon.

A Battlefield Scenario for the XM-25
The Americans return fire with their rifles and maneuver, but find it difficult to neutralize the enemy rifleman who repeatedly exposes himself for only a second, shoots, then ducks behind the thick wall. We're really excited about it and sounds like we could really make a difference in some peoples lives this Christmas season. The group we're working with is in a not so great part of town and security is one of our concerns. Plain clothes of course. One of the other photographers' husband is going to help us with that and I'll provide a little of my own security :)

Woman holds vandals at gunpoint (http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/nov/18/181917/woman-holds-vandals-gunpoint/news-breaking/)

---Quote---
SPRING HILL - Fran Greifenberger wandered across the street wearing flip-flops, shorts, a T-shirt and a gun.
She was washing her car in her driveway when she heard a smash. Her neighbors across the street had moved to an Army base (http://www2.tbo.com/topic/k/army-base/) in Kansas and she knew their house was vacant. She called 911.
Greifenberger walked to the back of the home at 13371 Linden Drive (http://www2.tbo.com/topic/k/linden-drive/) and noticed the glass in the sliding door was reduced to piles of shards (http://www2.tbo.com/topic/k/shards/) on the floor. She pulled the gun out of her waistband (http://www2.tbo.com/topic/k/waistband/) and quietly entered the house.
She had her .32-caliber Beretta (http://www2.tbo.com/topic/k/beretta/) in her right hand and encountered the first suspect in the living room.
She screamed at him and forced him into the master bedroom (http://www2.tbo.com/topic/k/master-bedroom/) where the other two boys were wreaking havoc. One had a baseball bat, one a hammer and the other a screwdriver, Greifenberger said. She ordered all of them to lie down on the floor.
One of them was shaking and about to cry, she said. The other said he needed to go to the bathroom.
"I don't care," she told him.
Greifenberger, 50, is a former New York City police officer. She worked for the department from 1982-88 before a knee injury (http://www2.tbo.com/topic/k/knee-injury/) forced her out, she said.
She's currently employed with the county. She administers breathalyzers to DUI suspects. She has a concealed weapons permit, according to the arrest report.
When she first encountered the teens, she pointed the gun downward at an angle, but didn't point it directly at them, she said.
"I knew they were juveniles," she said. "I wasn't going to shoot them."
One of the suspects is 13 years old and the other two are 14. Their names are not being released.
"Oh, they dropped everything," she said of their reactions the moment they noticed a woman standing before them with a gun. "They were scared stiff."
Seconds earlier, the boys were carefree and enjoying a rush of excitement while they poked holes in the wall, broke mirrors and smashed closet doors, Greifenberger said.
"I heard them laughing and carrying on having a good ol' time," she recalled.
They weren't inside the house for long from the time Greifenberger heard the glass breaking to the time she confronted them, she said.
The damage was extensive. Only the laundry room was skipped during the vandalism bender, which deputies think was spread across two days.
One of the teens told authorities he and one of the other suspects broke into the house Monday and "broke everything they saw," according to the arrest report.
When they entered the home Tuesday afternoon, one of the suspects threw beer bottles at the walls and did further damage with a baseball bat, deputies said.
The other two were "throwing hammers at everything inside the residence," according to the report.
Greifenberger walked through the house Wednesday. There were the constant sounds of popping glass underneath her feet as she stepped from one room to another.
Mostly everything made of glass — from mirrors to sliding doors to windows — was broken.
The glass top stove and oven were smashed. The door to the kitchen cupboard was damaged. There was a hole in the bathroom window and a section of the shower was reduced to rubble.
The glass doors of the closets in one of the bedrooms were destroyed and the wall shelves in the same room were cracked in half.
Some of the walls in the living room and master bedroom (http://www2.tbo.com/topic/k/master-bedroom/) were punctured and the light fixture in the dining room was broken.
More damage was done to the master bathroom, fireplace and a third bedroom.
The latter included a life-sized dollhouse that was made by the homeowner for his young daughter. It was not spared by the vandals.
"This house was immaculate," said Greifenberger, who is friends with her former neighbors. "It was left spotless. It was move-in ready."
While the boys remained on the ground face down, Greifenberger tucked the gun back into her shorts. She called 911 again to tell the dispatcher where she and the suspects were located inside the house.
Deputies arrived a few minutes later, she said.
The house is owned by Paul and Amiee Moon. They live at Fort Riley, Kan. The former enlisted in the U.S. Army in January and he is scheduled to be deployed to Iraq in June, his wife said.
Amiee Moon was contacted by phone. She used to be a teacher at Nature Coast Technical High School.
"I'm always surprised when I see how great some students can be and then see the bad from other kids," Moon said. "I also can't believe how sometimes parents stand behind them no matter what they do."
Greifenberger said the parents of two of the teens yelled at them. The mother of the third was more emotional about seeing her child being carted off to jail, she said.
The house was days away from being sold to a cash buyer via a short sale, Greifenberger said.
That was confirmed by Moon, who said there were at least three people interested in buying it.
She said she is still waiting on word from the Realtor and insurance company about the damage and whether the sale is in jeopardy. One of the prospective buyers is expected to look at the house today, she said.
Moon was relieved to learn the suspects had been caught in the act by her friend.
"She's an awesome lady," she said of her former neighbor.
Greifenberger said her career with the NYPD was cut short due to the knee injury (http://www2.tbo.com/topic/k/knee-injury/) she sustained while fighting with a suspect.
Walking into her neighbors' house to confront suspected burglars reminded her of what she often went through as a patrol officer more than 20 years earlier.
"It felt good," she said about disrupting Tuesday's alleged burglary. "I've still got it after all these years."
---End Quote---

Greifenberger said her career with the NYPD was cut short due to the knee injury she sustained while fighting with a suspect.
Walking into her neighbors' house to confront suspected burglars reminded her of what she often went through as a patrol officer more than 20 years earlier.
"It felt good," she said about disrupting Tuesday's alleged burglary. "I've still got it after all these years."

Grinding my jaw... revisited

Some of you might remember this thread: http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xdtalk-chatter-box/120289-ughhh-how-stop-3.html#post1955384

So I bought a mouthgaurd that I wore for about 2 weeks. I bit down on one side hard enough, I guess, that it became miss-shapen and very uncomfortable. So I ended up ditching that.

For the past week, I have been getting these killer headaches. It feels like someone is punching me in one of my eyeballs from inside of my head. I can also feel the muscles on one side of my head and neck tightening up. This happens both while I am sleeping (during the day, lol), and while I am awake at work (at night).

So, are my headaches related to me grinding my jaw? I have a feeling they are. Also, what kind of mouth gaurds are you guys using? The one I tried was a universal one that I had to heat up in water and then shape to fit my mouth. It sucked!
