So I'm looking at getting my first carry piece once my permit comes back, and I need a holster that will be comfy and not "print" even though I'm significantly overweight and new clothes haven't been in the budget since several pounds ago. I'm thinking back pocket is my best bet, but can't find a holster for the xds. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sunday I'm riding home on my motorcycle and a guy in an unnamed car attempts to stop me from splitting lanes to pass him in traffic. This is in Ca where it is completely legal as long as you are not exceeding the speed limit and not exceeding the speed of traffic by more than 15mph. Once I had gotten to the next red light and this guy was at least four cars behind me I thought that was the end of it. Green light, and this guy is swimming through traffic to catch up with me and once he has reached up to me in the lane to my left he started to change right into my lane right where I was occupying it. With a smile on his face.
This forced me to slam on my brakes and almost put me into the curb. After that he slammed on HIS brakes and made the immediate right turn. Which is actually the same way I go home. I follow him and within 30 feet he abruptly pulled over and got out of the car. I pulled over as well to tell him what a jerk he was while sitting on my bike. (I had no intention of escalating things) Once he started advancing on me making threats I hopped off my bike so that I could at least defend myself if need be. No sooner than I was off my bike two of his buddies came from a nearby house and also were advancing me as well making physical threats as well.
In the state of Ca it is legal to open carry a registered sidearm as long as it is unloaded and safety checked and ammunition is stored separately.
So once these three men were within lets say 8 feet I unholstered my sidearm and verbally advised them to back up and leave the situation. Once they were what I considered a safe distance from me I reholstered my sidearm and took off on my bike.
Within an hour my house was raided, guns and ammo taken (all legally registered to me) along with tossing everything in my apt and my dog was taken to animal control. I have no previous record for any type of violent crime of any sort and I am 26 years of age. In fact I have two home invasions and attacked and almost killed by a group of people three years ago. Now apparently those men called the police a claimed I had "terrorized" them and am being tried for felony assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats.
WTF guys. If anyone lends any insight or experience/advice or anything or just give some input I would appreciate it.

Thanks guys :???:

and sorry for the long post

HAPPY DAY!!!

A puppy followed me home today. Yup, she's an 8 week old black lab. Quiet, easy going, friendly, smart (she can already go up and down the stairs after one try), doesn't chew up my fingers (or shoes), and of course, very cute.

I guess I can't upload a pic straight from my computer. I'll try to get image shack or something so I can post pics.

Potty training is hit or miss right now. She gave me the message she has to go, but I didn't understand until she gave up waiting and went on the wee-wee pad.

Right now she's clinging to me like velcro...

At the range today and the slide locked back on a couple rounds with ammo still in the magazine. Looked down in the chamber and the ammo is ready, i release the slide and the next round fires. Happened more often as time went by. By 150 it was happening after every shot fired. At first it was Tulammo only, but then the federal was doing it. The barrel ramp was filthy, but really after only 150 rounds the ammo won't load and the slide locks back as if the magazine is empty? Any concerns people? Or just chalk it up to Tulammo? Thank you.

Hey guys this is my first post. I just bought an xdm 45 compact. I have only put 50 rounds through it and I love it!! I decided to order another compact mag and a pearce grip extension. I thought I was buying the plus 0 that is for the xd but says it will also fit the xdm. I ended up getting the one that is a little bit longer and suppose to add a round to the xd45 compact. I looked on pearce website and it said it does not fit the xdm compact. Since it was only six dollars I decided to keep it. I cut down the inside peice of the pearce product so that the mag can slide up all the way on the grip. It now holds ten rounds! when the mag is full its pretty hard to rack the slide though. I am gonna see if it feeds reliable next weekend. I was wondering if anybody else has tried this? I will try to post pictures when i figure out how to hook up my camera to the computer, also any hints on how to post pictures on this forum?

A little trip to the range with my Xd(m) 9mm SC and some snap caps to try and decipher my low left groupings. You can see from the picture here that I was jerking the trigger a little and once I tried a correction my group moved up near the center. Snap caps are a great tool to use to see what you are doing when pulling that trigger, especially for a newbie like me.
Btw I was definitely aming at the hight right portion of the 5 ring for those last 5 shots.

Bought my good friend a used Remington 870. Got it for a great price. His wedding is coming up and I wanted to give it to him as a home defense gun/range/fun gun. I was gonna get the stock inscribed with something like initials and dates of his wedding along with a saying or something. Here's what I came up with:

"may your home always be defended and your love always stay pure"
Any ideas? Dropping the gun off tomorrow. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Hi everyone,

I'm taking both the non-resident Utah and FL CCW courses the first week of June at my LGS. I live in IL (Cook County - suburbs) and have a couple of questions.

From my understanding that the Utah course is strictly classroom and once complete the company performing the couse will provide all needed paperwork, fingerprints, and mail the application to UT with my check payment. I believe that's all that they stated.

For FL, there is classroom and live fire after the classroom portion is finished. Now here is where I'm confused, the LGS stated that I had to go to FL Dept of Agriculture's website and download the application and request the fingerprint card. I did that and downloaded the:

* Concealed Weapon or Firearms License Application
* Pamphelt (How to obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon/firearm.
* List of reciprocity states

I then made the request via their site to mail me the fingerpirnt card. Do I have to mail all this info to the state of FL or does the LGS do that? I doubt the fingerprint card will arrive by the time of my class.

Can someone shed some light on this? Any other IL shooters out there that took these courses? I'm taking the class at Article II range in Lombard, IL. Thanks
JP

None of the local gunsmiths in my area would touch the sights on my XDM, so after doing my research and sending an email which he replied to within minutes, I sent my slide off to James in Alabama with just a few butterflies in my stomach.

I received a courtesy call to let me know the work was done and the slide in the mail. Total turnaround was one week. No marring on the slide, sights perfectly centered and accuracy only limited by my skills.

He might be getting more business from me due to the sights themselves not being quite what I hoped for (does NOT reflect poorly on James). I went with TruGlo fiberoptic/tritium and they just aren't as bright as I hoped for. My eyesight isn't what it used to be so I need all the brightness I can get.

I'll keep these for at least a few more months before making a decision, but if anyone has any suggestions for a better/brighter option in a 3-dot config I'd be interested and grateful for the info.

Ok I was at a friends house, out in the country, here in Illinois. We were just having some fun shooting soda cans and clay targets stuff like that. Then the police show up at his house saying they had a call about people shooting guns at this location. We say ok well this his his house and he owns about 250 acres around give or take. Then the police officer runs checks all of the firearms we have there. I know this officer and we talk from time to time as a matter of fact he recommended a gun store to me. But any way, my question if i would have refused to let him run my firearms is there anything he could have done. B/c frankly we were on private property doing nothing wrong and he has no probable cause. I'm sure if he wanted to be a prick about it he could have found some reason. I guess I just don't understand it, what gives him the right to run my firearms when they are on private property with no probable cause of a crime?

After putting off my first handgun purchase for a while (was hoping to get hooked up by a friend who works at Sig) I finally caved and bought something else locally. Did some research and decided on the XDm 4.5 in .45. Boy am I happy I did. Only put about 20 rounds through it but couldn't be happier.

Picked the gun up at a local shop's "Mother's Day Sale" for $550 (20% off their regular price of $689) and just ordered two extra mags from Springfield for their "Father's Day Sale" of 30% off.

Also just applied for my conceal permit so I'll be getting that in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to utilizing my second amendment right (while we still have it).

 By Phil Williams
Chief Investigative Reporter
MONTEREY, Tenn. -- "If somebody told me this happened to them, I absolutely would not believe this could happen in America."

That was the reaction of a New Jersey man who found out just how risky it can be to carry cash through Tennessee.

For more than a year, NewsChannel 5 Investigates has been shining a light on a practice that some call "policing for profit."

In this latest case, a Monterey police officer took $22,000 off the driver -- even though he had committed no crime.

"You live in the United States, you think you have rights -- and apparently you don't," said George Reby.

As a professional insurance adjuster, Reby spends a lot of time traveling from state to state. But it was on a trip to a conference in Nashville last January that he got a real education in Tennessee justice.

"I never had any clue that they thought they could take my money legally," Reby added. "I didn't do anything wrong."

Reby was driving down Interstate 40, heading west through Putnam County, when he was stopped for speeding.

A Monterey police officer wanted to know if he was carrying any large amounts of cash.

"I said, 'Around $20,000,'" he recalled. "Then, at the point, he said, 'Do you mind if I search your vehicle?' I said, 'No, I don't mind.' I certainly didn't feel I was doing anything wrong. It was my money."

That's when Officer Larry Bates confiscated the cash based on his suspicion that it was drug money.

"Why didn't you arrest him?" we asked Bates.

"Because he hadn't committed a criminal law," the officer answered.

Bates said the amount of money and the way it was packed gave him reason to be suspicious.

"The safest place to put your money if it's legitimate is in a bank account," he explained. "He stated he had two. I would put it in a bank account. It draws interest and it's safer."

"But it's not illegal to carry cash," we noted.

"No, it's not illegal to carry cash," Bates said. "Again, it's what the cash is being used for to facilitate or what it is being utilized for."

NewsChannel 5 Investigates noted, "But you had no proof that money was being used for drug trafficking, correct? No proof?"

"And he couldn't prove it was legitimate," Bates insisted.

Bates is part of a system that, NewsChannel 5 Investigates has discovered, gives Tennessee police agencies the incentive to take cash off of out-of-state drivers. If they don't come back to fight for their money, the agency gets to keep it all.

"This is a taking without due process," said Union City attorney John Miles.

A former Texas prosecutor and chairman of the Obion County Tea Party, Miles has seen similar cases in his area.

He said that, while police are required to get a judge to sign off on a seizure within five days, state law says that hearing "shall be ex parte" -- meaning only the officer's side can be heard.

That's why George Reby was never told that there was a hearing on his case.

"It wouldn't have mattered because the judge would have said, 'This says it shall be ex parte. Sit down and shut up. I'm not to hear from you -- by statute," Miles added.

George Reby said that he told Monterey officers that "I had active bids on EBay, that I was trying to buy a vehicle. They just didn't want to hear it."

In fact, Reby had proof on his computer.

But the Monterey officer drew up a damning affidavit, citing his own training that "common people do not carry this much U.S. currency."

"On the street, a thousand-dollar bundle could approximately buy two ounces of cocaine," Bates told NewsChannel 5 Investigates.

"Or the money could have been used to buy a car," we observed.

"It's possible," he admitted.

NewsChannel 5 Investigates asked Bates if Reby had told him that he was trying to buy a car?

"He did," the officer acknowledged.

"But you did not include that in your report," we noted.

"If it's not in there, I didn't put it in there."

So why did he leave that out?

"I don't know," the officer said.

Bates also told the judge the money was hidden inside "a tool bag underneath trash to [deter] law enforcement from locating it."

"That's inaccurate," Reby said. "I pulled out the bag and gave it to him."

And even though there was no proof that Reby was involved in anything illegal, Bates' affidavit portrays him as a man with a criminal history that included an arrest for possession of cocaine.

That was 20-some years ago," the New Jersey man insisted.

"Were you convicted?" we wanted to know.

"No, I wasn't convicted," he answered.

But Officer Bates says that arrest -- which he acknowledged was old -- was still part of the calculation to take Reby's money.

"Am I going to use it? Yes, I'm going to use it because he's been charged with it in the past -- regardless of whether it's 10 or 15 years ago," he said.

Attorney John Miles said he's frustrated with attitudes toward Tennessee's civil forfeiture laws, which make such practices legal.

"We are entitled not to be deprived of our property without due process of law, both under the Tennessee Constitution and the federal Constitution -- and nobody cares," Miles said.

"Nobody cares."

This year, state lawmakers debated a bill to create a special committee to investigate these "policing for profit" issues. That bill died in the last days of the legislative session.

After Reby filed an appeal, and after NewsChannel 5 began investigating, the state agreed to return his money -- if he'd sign a statement waiving his constitutional rights and promising not to sue.

They also made him come all the way from New Jersey, back to Monterey to pick up a check.

He got the check, but no apology.

"If they lied about everything in the report, why would they apologize?" Reby said.
And, with that, he was ready to put Tennessee in his rearview mirror.

"I really don't want to come back here," he said.

As for the appeals process, Reby was able to provide us and the state with letters from his employers, showing that he had a legitimate source of income.

It took him four months to get his money back, but it usually takes a lot longer for most people.

And that, Miles said, works to the benefit of the police.

He had two clients where police agreed to drop the cases in exchange for a cut of the money -- $1,000 in one case, $2,000 in another. In both cases, that was less than what they might have paid in attorney fees.

Hi All,
Just picked up an XDM 3.8 compact in 9mm recently to go with my Sig 229 40 cal. Love both of these guns and am looking at a PRP drop in trigger for the XDM. Both will be used for CC. I'm thinking upgrading the trigger shouldn't make the gun any less safe to carry considering it has a grip safety also. Wife and I both got our WI CCW last week.

I've hunted in the past and been around guns for some time.. The kids are teenagers now so when the wife finally suggested we think about ccw I was all over it.

Anyway... I've been lurking on the forums and soaking up knowledge. Looks like a great forum. Drooling over the XDS now. Hopefully 9mm will be out soon after the 45 shows up.

Hi All. I have a Glock 17 purchased in 1993, so first generation. Gun is completely stock and shoots fine. I want to change the rear and front sights. I've never been a fan of the std glock sights. Can you provide me some options for replacement? I'm looking for a 3 dot type system. It doesn't have to be night sights, but something of decent quality. Is $100
a good range to stay within?

Thanks

If you ever had the pleasure of eating an MRE, then you will understand that those little bottles of hot sauce in there make some entree's eatable. We also used them to make MRE bombs.

I just finished a bowl of raman noodles liberally doused in Daves "cool cayene" pepper sauce. Not "destroy my existence" hot, but tasty hot, if that makes sense.

So who else here likes to destroy their food receptacles with blazing hot food that makes us sweat and substitutes a pharmacy trip for a mild cold?

Bonus points if it strips paint.

Hey yall. Name is Mike. I've been collecting since the day I turned 18 along with some of the weapons I inherited through my family. I'm going to get all my weapons together and make a nice layout on the carpet to take a couple pictures.

Here is a list of the weapons I currently own. I may have forgot one or two. I have 3 trijicon acogs. They usually stay on my M14, a DD M4 and the HK 416. Most of my handguns have trijicon night sights. I made that upgrade after purchasing the EMP 9mm that came with them. Makes a WORLD of difference.

Springfield EMP 9mm (wooden grips)
Springfield M1A M14
Springfield XDSC 40
Daniel Defense M4 - V3
Daniel Defense M4 - Designated Marksman Package
HK 416
HK USP-CT .45
DPMS AR15
Colt 1911 100th year edition
Walther PK380
Walther P22
Walther P99
1928 Thompson M1A1

Is anyone here on disability? If you are, you are cheating the system. If you can sit at a computer, there are jobs you can do. If you can talk, there are jobs for you.

I am sick and tired of people leeching off other people simply because they have a bad back. It's pathetic.

The mentally retarded guy that can't walk and can barely talk has a full time job at Walmart, yet these bums sit at home watching Springer all day because they're missing a finger.

IMO the only people that should ever be on disability are

1. People who are so physically disabled they cannot even breathe on their own.
2. People who are NEWLY seriously injured. You lose a leg you have 6 months to get your **** in order, or you're gonna be missing a leg and homeless.
3. People who are injured temporarily (broken arm, surgery, etc.) but are not covered under workmans comp.

Don't say it's an entitlement. Paying $120 a month into social security for 10 years then collecting $1,300 a month for 40 is a LEECH.

I've put ~1500 rounds through this gun and it does everything that I could ask it to do at this point (minus the sights). I do love my W-German SIG as well, but I'm waiting on the XDs for my carry weapon. They are going to produce these at some point are they not?

I've used GunAuction.com a few times, but what I am posting about is the GunAuction Newsletter I get from them every week via email.
The Newsletter usually gives some pretty good general firearm info, new firearms coming out, and firearm laws related news.
I guess you register with the site and they send you the newsletter.
I'm not really sure what I did to start receiving it..

Mods delete this thread if it violates any policies, I just find their newsletter interesting..
Just felt is was worth noting to the masses..;)
