Anyone carrying an XDM or similar sized pistol in this holster? Opinion? I saw one at the range with another type pistol and wondered if it is a good carry rig and if it hugs the body closely enough to go OWB on occassion.

Change in Mag seating?

Hello all. Just picked up the 4" service full-size XD .45 yesterday and I am in love lol. I've rented the pistol several time to shoot and decided to buy it.

I came across something interesting lastnight though. When seating a magazine of practice ball ammo the magazine has no resistance And drops freely but when I went to seat one loaded with Remmington Golden Saber defense rounds there was some resistance the last 1/4 inch or so. It feels like you have to push agaist a spring before it will lock in place.

Dropping the mag is also more difficult as it is under tension now; the mag release needs to be pushed harder than 'normal'. I've tried loading less than capacity in the magazine with no change. I am a former Devil Dog and have fired numerous firearms but have never come across this.

Thoughts? Thank you all in advance and I have enjoyed reading old post on these forums to build up some knowledge on the XD before purchase. I look forward to some more great ideas.

Any ideas anyone, any opinions on the EMP would be welcome, experiences good or bad. This is not a feeler thread, just need some outright knowledge.

Which feel better the hogue grips or the CTC when shooting?

Other question how hard is it with the CTC grips to NOT push the button when shooting? If I were to have a laser I would want to instantly turn it on as intended but if I don't want a laser I don't want to have to flip the mechanical switch to keep it off.

In particular I'm curious about the 1911s.

I am beginning to re-evaluate my SHTF preparation, especially after reading this article:

The Argentina Collapse | The Survival Spot Blog (http://www.survival-spot.com/survival-blog/argentina-collapse/)

It's long, but a VERY GOOD read. It made me realize how many misconceptions people have for an economic collapse.

I know the basics for food, water, supplies, and rifles; but this article opened my eyes on the importance of handguns.

My current models that I want to invest in are CZ-75b, XD-45, or a 1911.

I LOVE my 1911s, but I'm not sure that they are a wise selection for this type of scenario due to there low capacity and skill required to maintain or repair after reading this very good and very long article (The 1911 Project: Introduction (http://how-i-did-it.org/1911-project/index.html)). The precision and the tolerances required by a 1911 are insane! Reliability of my 1911s are great under normal conditions, but SHTF is not normal.

I love the reliability and capacity of the CZ, but I'm not the biggest fan of 9mm and they are pretty complicated internally, which may not be the best option for a SHTF scenario. Simple is better, BUT, CZ will sell ALL the internal parts\spare parts for their guns unlike some OTHER companies.

I like my XD45, but it does not seem reliable enough to trust my life to in the long term and the spare parts availability are a joke. I've had many FTF (nose dives) and problems with the roll pins. A glock would seem to be the better choice, but I hate the way they feel and shoot.

Any thoughts after reading the Argentina article? I want to focus my investment in spare parts on one particular gun but I can't decide on which one.

Silently taking out squirrels?

Looking to see if there a easy/fun/silent way to kill squirrels while deer hunting. I hunt from a stand, and bait my area with corn. Well I think half the corn goes to the squirrels. They just sit on the pile all day eating or hustling it back to a hole for later. Is there anyway I can kill them without making too much noise to spook a deer? I am not looking to kill every squirrel in the forest, just the ones camping on my corn

Hey Guys, I purchased my XDm .40 yesterday and it is the first pistol I have ever owned or really used for that matter. Pistols are relatively new to me. I did not notice until after I field stripped it and reassembled that when the slide is locked back the barrel wobbles a little bit. I'm assuming that is normal however I just want to make sure. There were no extra pieces. When the slide is in its normal position the barrel does not move. Am I just being a paranoid newbie or did I F*** it up?

Ok, So I bought my Springfield G.I. back in Sept. I have only been able to shoot it a few times and I want to get a few things for it like, Trigger, Magazines, a beavertail grip safety to name a few. The question I have is are all parts interchangeable? if I want a match trigger, will any match trigger fit my gun? The same for all parts?

Last night I got told to leave a bar (I wasnt drinking) for having my pocket knife clipped on my pocket (the same way it has been since I was 10 years old). The bar manager acted like I had an AR 15 with me at the table or something.. Anyone else had an experience like this?

I took an Adolescent Psychology course to round out my early childhood education degree. Yesterday, I had to leave daycare with a substitute and go to a small city high school and observe the students for a few hours. I stopped and took off my gun before I got there, put it in my purse and put my driver’s license in my notebook so I wouldn’t have to carry my purse at the school. Afterwards, I stopped at a nearby truck stop, grabbed my purse (with the gun in it) and went inside to put it on. After I put it on, on a whim, I grabbed a shooting magazine, a penthouse letters and a snack for the drive home. Since they ran my debit card as a credit card, I was asked for my ID! As you might recall, my driver’s license is in the notebook…in my truck. So, for the first time ever, I used my CCW as an ID while dressed up for my observation and buying porno and shooting stuff. I got a strange look from the clerk and a nervous laugh…the whole thing made me giggle!

I plan on doing a little camping/backpacking this Thanksgiving with my gf. I don't have my CCW yet and was wondering if it was legal to have my XDm in a zippered pistol case in my backpack. I'll be in Florida the whole time. I also have to check because I'll be in a State Park and I'm not sure what they're regulations are. I'd like to have my gun because we'll be about 7-8 miles from anything with the tents set up next to a trail. There's hogs in the park but I've never seen one. I guess I'm more concerned about people than hogs.

I have for sale an XD-45acp Service that I bought new. It is in great condition. Round count is around 500.

It comes with the original box, two magazines, and a Blade-Tech belt holster (RH). Price is $500 shipped. I will accept money order or certified check. I'm not interested in any trades.

Your FFL must be willing to accept shipment from private individual. I'll need either a copy of their FFL or their FFL number. I can also do a face to face transfer if you have a KY driver's license.

Send a private message if interested.

I was looking over my "Supertuck" the other day trying to figure a way to improve/create a new Supertuck "*Lite*" if you will?

*Here are some ideas that went through my head:*

*One:* Trim about 1/2 inch off the "Rear" flap so the holster won't have to wrap so far behind "smaller" users.

*Two:* Add three more holes to the flap so the holster could be worn deeper IWB and a good FBI cant could still be used.

*Three:* Add one more "Fastener" per clip to make the clips more secure and help stabilize the holsters further.

These are just a few ideas; I hope you don't mind some feedback.

*Keep up the good work; your doing a great job!*

The Character development is great, I like the way that they introduce each of their personal relationships with one another, the overall story was very well done and the SFX are GREAT!! I think they did an excellent job on this one.

So I'm calling out all you TREKKIES, and TREKKERS: POST UP HERE AND BE HEARD!!!

Im a Missouri resident, and what to purchase a suppressor in the future. I just received my Form for a Curio and Relic which from what I understand is a FFL that qualifies. Am I on the right track and if so, then what is the next process? How long does it normally take for all of this to go through?

Thanks Guys:D

I have an XDm .40. which I absolutely love. Can't find anything I don't like about the gun.... except I wish it were more concealable to carry. May be if I had less fat, it would be easier?? I do have CCW permit, and already do open carry with this gun but would like something smaller to carry concealed.

I have my sights on the XD subcompact .40, wanting to keep the same caliber gun if possible. The 9mm is also an option, but I think the .40 would do just fine. Any suggestions there?

Here's my questions.... How is the XD subcompact to carry? Yes it's smaller than the XDm, but to you who carry it, how does it conceal? Holster... any recommendations?

My wife loves my XDm, and would like to have it around the house with her. I've taken her shooting quite a bit lately, and she fell in love with it. As she tells me... "Not bad shooting for an old broad, huh?" Glad she still has a good sense of humor.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Defense ammo vs. plain ol FMJ

Im about to start carrying my XDm 9mm concealed, I'm setup for Missouri training next month. I see some mentioning of "defense" ammo and on the shelf at my local GS.

Is there a REAL difference here that I must carry it? I understand (mostly) about expansion, penetration, jacketed hollow points, FMJ, I'm just a little skeptical about "defense ammo kool-aid" (my term).

I kinda figure that if I ever had to use my weapon I'm carrying 19+1, I don't mind shooting 1+ if that's what it takes. I'd think more about a 1 shot, one stop power if I were carrying either of my 1911A1's with 7rds, I'd want to get that first shot stop if I didn't have a high cap magazine like the XDm.

Just wanting some advice... :)

*let's not have the .45/.40/.380/debate about those being better than 9mm...I'm carrying that round and that's that. :D

From around the internet I've read Duracoat scrapes off easily on pistol barrel due to the slide grating into it.

What would I need to make the slide and the frame, which are two different materials, the same shade? In some places I've noticed the slide will be a completely different shade due to the metal reacting differently.

And if I don't have the brass to do it to my XDM, I'll probably pick up an XD Service at a gunshow nearby soon. I've only just become more lenient in what I will do to my firearm. ;)

AR shooting practice distance

I have a simple question but I am sure the answer is probably pretty variable but ....

It's fun to sit jugs and pumkins and what nots out there 100-200 or more yards and pop them but what distances do you practice the most with your AR? In looking at some local shooting school course descriptions they seem to keep the distance at 25 yards and in. I've watched all the videos at Viking Tactical (recommend you watch them if you haven't) and those drills seem to be no more than 25 yards and probably more like 15-20 yards.

I would think it makes sense to practice all the way from very close pistol range to as far as one might feel comfortable taking a shot with SD in mind.

For you law enforcement and military guys/gals do/did you do a lot of practice at relatively close ranges?

Anyway, just curious as to what others do and what their reasoning is.

Thanks

WTS/WTT Springfield 1911 Operator - Minnesota

I have this Springfield 1911 lightweight Operator, 5" barrel/government size. It is a beautiful handgun in excellent condition, completely as it came from Springfield (nightsights, box, 2 original mags, paperwork, etc...).
It has exactly 200 rounds through it. It is in nearly perfect condition.

*Will sell for $900 FTF in MN. Or will ship if buyer pays actual shipping expenses.*

*TRADES: *
*I'm mainly looking to trade for a Sig P220R CARRY, DA/SA with nightsights, and some cash or accessories.*
Other trades I'd consider include:
- Glock in 9mm or .45acp + cash
- Kahr P45 + cash
- Springfield XD45 4" Compact with nightsights + cash
- a S&W _PRE-LOCK_ revolver in .357mag or .45acp + cash (4" or shorter barrels only, would prefer something in 3" if possible)
- **MIGHT** consider other trades as well.

Would prefer a local trade, but I have no problem shipping for the right offer.

Well sort of...

I recently completed the Underwater Police Science and Technology course as did several other members of our Dive Team. As a result of the class we obtained several certifications such as Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and Search and Recovery. Well, today, I got to make a resue of sorts.

I get a call that some A## H@## has shot a duck in a retention pond with a bow. This was in a nice retirement community and NOT as a hunting act, it was on a BET. This resulted in the arrow being lodged in the duck's neck. I get on scene and see this female mallard flopping about with an arrow sticking out of its neck.

I put on my farmer John, fins, and gloves and strike a waterborne trail towards this duck. After some cat-and-mouse action, I finally catch the duck, swim to shore, and remove the arrow. Arrow was placed into evidence.

ASPCA and Animal Control respond and the duck is off to the vets and to the operating room. The duck seems to be ok and only time will tell. The Vet thinks the duck will make it.

The suspect is identified, contacted, and after I confront him about what a sick thing he has done, and the fact I have eye-witnesses that know hiom, he comes in and makes a full confession under Miranda. Witnesses made statements as well.

And there you have it, a water rescue...:D

ETA: Charge was Animal Cruelty, 1st Degree Misd. If the duck dies, it will go to a 3rd Degree Felony. What a sick thing to do just on a bet.

Im thinking about getting one, just to carry around to college and to have after basic training... just for web browsing, portability..and the price isnt bad either.

I have a few USB flash drives around that I could use to keep pictures, videos, etc.. on but the notebook has a slot for an SD card... Is that a card reader or what? What will happen if I put a 16gb SD card in that slot? Will it just give me 16gb more of HD space?

the Bug Out Bag (BOB) thread.

BOB list.

everyone has a different interpretation of what a BOB (Bug Out Bag) should consist of. In fact, there is an unlimited amount of different scenarios that would require different gear. I'd like to hear what everyone has in theirs and what their intended use is.

As of right now I am in the process of building 2 BOB's.

First: general BOB with the essentials to leave home if need be. Also great use for camping. My UTG 8 gal. bag (Which I got from another member on here practically new, thanks!) has enough pockets and pouches to fit everything you'd ever need in a bag, and does it comfortably with plenty of strap support.

Second: a trunk BOB, also sometimes referred to as a "Get Home Bag". This will have a lot of medical supplies in case of an accident, and can also include weapons, like a pistol that rarely sees any use, is not expensive, but is reliable enough to keep in this bag in case of emergency. I was looking at a maxpedition single-strap bag with a hidden "concealment" pocket for a handgun that has a velcro liner for a holster to stick to. That way it would be seperated from the rest of the supplies within.

So, recommendations, lists, suggestions, pictures, scenarios, etc.. Bring it on.
