Initial thoughts on my new IWB

Figured I would do a quick first impression and see what you guys thought.

Just received my new Hidden Hybrid Holsters S1 a couple days ago, so I threw on some clothes that I thought I might be wearing sometimes with it and snapped some shots.

This one I took doing a "striding" pose. Hard to tell that close.

Reaching

I was pulling my shirt about as tight as I could trying to get a print.

I have the cant adjusted as extreme as possible, and it is probably around 430. The back of the slide is just barely past my outline from the front, if at all.

I should mention I'm very slim... 5'10" 140ish pounds. And I typically wear "well fitting" clothes. In the pictures, I had a very thin button up, and some volcom shorts. I can only imagine how well this will conceal under colder weather clothing conditions. Even with that outfit, I think I would feel quite confident that it would take substantial bending at the waist to produce a print. Kneeling seems work well.

Quality is top notch to say the least. Adjustable retention in two spots, soft suede backing, sturdy belt clips, height and cant adjustable, and holes for OWB option. I think it could be considered a "tuckable" holster with the way the clips are mounted. It is extremely comfortable, and spreads the weight across the hip well. After the leather breaks in, I'm sure it will only increase in comfort.

Unfortunately, I am confined to house arrest with it concealed until my permit comes in. Hopefully in about a month and a half.

Just wrapped installing the ultimate match trigger kit on my 5.25" XDM 9 and on my 3.8 XDM 9. Can't wait to get to the range tomorrow and test them out. Did a little dry practice with them tonight and they feel great. Only took about an hour and a half on the first one then under an hour for the second one. :cool:

Hi

I'm looking at upgrading my xdsc with a prp trigger kit.
I see three different kits they offer, and the descriptions(other then the title)
do not seem to say what makes them different.

I'm comfortable with fitting parts. I've done several trigger jobs my self.

I guess my question is. If someone who has used them all could elaborate?

Got a couple holsters from Gavin late last week. Then my Seahorse 4 gun case came in today. It fits a 5.25 45 no problem, that was the only thing I was worried about. It is going to make going to the range alot easier. It has one spot left for my XDs-9 bitone as soon as I can get my hands on one! Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.

40 to 9 Conversion Barrel---to port or not to port?

I've got an XDm 40 4.5. Looking to get a 9mm barrel. What are some opinions on getting a ported barrel over a non-ported barrel. I have a Taurus 357 with a ported barrel, so I know the obvious pros and cons regarding them. Just looking for any additional insight from guys experienced with this type of thing concerning XD's. Thanks for your help.

newbie night sight questions

I just recently got my first springfield xdm 9mm from my great uncle who left it for me after he passed. I havent got to shoot it yet but from what I hear and read these are sweet guns. I have just recently gotten into guns with a small collection starting, including a ruger lc9(first gun) the springfield and sig sauer mosquito.

My buddy who is into guns alot more than I am says these are pretty sweet out of the box that just putting a good set of night sights on it and ill be good to go.

So getting to that I'm looking for a set for the springfield, he said to make sure that the gun doesnt have to be modified to make the night sights work and to make sure they are adjustable if i can find some. I really like the looks of the truglo tfo. But other people have said to look into dawson and trijicon sights. Can anyone with any type of input help me out and maybe direct me in the way of something. fyi i want green/green for color

Trigger work - components and safety

I have read many posts praising the various trigger kits available for the XD/XD(M) line. Does anyone know of a good reference that breaks down the components involved to explain the benefit. For instance - polishing this part provides a smoother trigger pull, changing this spring reduces the weight of the pull, adding this part does this, etc.

I am trying to figure out which parts of a trigger upgrade are really needed for everyday carry and some range work vs. what is needed by those competing with their XD. At some point it would seem a bit dangerous to reduce the trigger pull beyond a certain point (both weight and travel).

Hi-Viz Fiber Optic Sight Installed

After searching around for a while to see what fiber optic sight others have chosen and then comparing what was available in Canada, I finally decided to get a Hi-Viz XD2007 fiber optic front sight in red.

I got it a few weeks ago and I finally had an opportunity to install it myself. I've read that most people had a B$#%h of a time getting the front sight off, but for me, approx 6 hits of the punch and it came off. I'm definitely happy that I was able to get it off without incident.

The Hi-Viz sight installed easily and fit perfectly between the 2 sight markers on the slide, so it should be perfectly centered.

Below are a few pics I took after the installation.

My thoughts on the sight? Well, I don't like them. The light pipe just seems cloudy and is not very bright. In my photos, I had an overhead lamp (CFL bulb) and an LED flashlight shining into the sight for extra brightness and that's as bright as it looks. If you use it under sunlight or on a semi-cloudy day, it seems brighter, but I saw a set of Williams Fire Sight and those things just "popped", super bright even under the store lights. It's possible the overmolding of the light pipe is blocking a lot of the light, but unfortunately, it's not removable.

Would I recommend Hi-Viz XD2007 front sights? Sorry, but no I would not. I'm sure there are better sights in the market for the price (paid $60 US directly from Hi-Viz).

I hope everyone finds this useful when deciding what sight to get!

PRP trigger results

Thought I would post this for those that are on the fence about getting a PRP trigger for their XD/XDm. This is what you can expect.

Started off with a stock XDm9 compact.

Received my package from PRP.

Removed parts from package.

Tested the factory trigger pull before I got started.

Installed the trigger kit. I fit the parts without any polishing or polishing of the factory parts. It's just a basic install which is what most people do. Retested the trigger pull weight.

I then installed the titanium striker safety kit and titanium striker indicator kit. Again no polishing of any parts, just swapped out the factory parts for the PRP parts and retested the trigger again.

Went from 5# 15.5oz to 3# 8.4oz, just under 2 1/2 pounds lighter trigger pull than the factory trigger. The take up has been reduced by 50% with aprox 1/8" reset and no overtravel.

I have two competition models that are 3# and 3# 1.3oz that I achieved with some polishing of the trigger components.

I hope this answers any questions some of you have about how the PRP Ulimate Match Target trigger kit will affect the trigger pull of you XDm.

I would also like to mention that I installed the easy fit kit in my son's XD9 without any polishing and his trigger pull is an even 4# with the same short take up, short reset and no overtravel.

I own two xd handguns plus.a Remington 870. My question is do you guys think it is best to arm all three with a light or just maybe one pistol and the shotgun.they are all essentially for home defense. I appreciate any input and advice, thanks.

Back into XDs - Opinions on Upgrades

Had an XD way back when it was a HS2000. Ended up selling it when I needed something else. IDPA is going to release the XD from Enhance Service Pistol and allow it in Stock Service Pistol after October 2013, so I though I would look at the XDs again. Big mistake. Found a 9mm XDM 5.25, asked to see it, fondled it a bit, and the darn thing followed me home despite by best efforts - OK, maybe not my best. I know many here can related.

Anyway, being the confessed gadget freak that I am and never being able to leave anything stock, I am considering upgrades - the trigger being the first. I have surfed the net a bit gathering information, but wanted opinions from those of you who have already traveled the road. Looking for lighter trigger, but no lighter than 3.5 to 4.0 pounds, and a shorter take up and especially reset. Also interested in anything that improves reliability and softens recoil (and really works - lot s of snake oil out there). I understand Power River makes goodies for the XDM but still want the unbiased opinions of those that have traveled the journey I am about to. Much thanks in advance TEX

well picked up a new to me, but used 3d printer. Going to play around with it first, maybe make the wife some new kitchen spoons/ladles, to get hang of it.

Then im going to give making another flush mag for my xd and give it a go. Should be fun to at least try, its been done with AR mags, so might work for this too, we shall find out soon enough.:D

Printer is an UP Plus 3d printer. Comes with 4 spools of white, 1 spool green, 1 spool black, and 1 spool yellow. got it for a good deal too! New they are 1599, and a spool of ABS runs about 30 bucks...i paid 900 for it!

I know not another flashlight thread, but I'm curious and couldn't find my answer in the search. My question is are there any tac lights the will fit on the whole rail besides the tlr-3 and the x2? What I'm really looking for is something the size of a tlr-1 except with maybe a smaller rail mount to where it fits on the whole rail? Some pics of everyone's flashlight would help too!

I am thinking of getting Heinie Straight 8s for my XD 45, the ledge version.

I have used Straight 8s on 1911s and a Glock before and like them. Three dot sight setups have never worked well for me.

Does anyone have these on their XD and if so what are your thoughts?

Xd 4" service model carrying

So I've been really getting frustrated with this, I purchased a foxx IWB holster that I figured would fit comfortably with my 4" service model and It just isn't working for me , so im going to be selling that holster. I would prefer an IWB but have been considering purchasing something different if I find something I like.

My question is , has anyone here carried a Xd 4" service model on a regular basis ? I am not a big guy 5'10 163lbs and the gun over all is a little bigger than I'd like but as soon a I got my Conceal Permit , I jumped right in and purchased it . I would really like to be able to carry it regularly I just dont want to do it in a way that would get me in trouble by "harnishing" the fire arm .

I am also looking at a variety of options for carrying within my vehicle, I was told in the state of Michigan , I would get into trouble if I were to do the speed loader and holster mod for the vehicle . I have looked at a few other options for holsters that are made for cars, but I still think that would put me in the same category .

Crimson Trace Rail Master Laser

Just purchased and installed the Crimson Trace Rail Master on my XDM .40 this weekend. Purchase price was 134.99.

Initial thoughts were: easy to install, fairly easy to sight in, and the red laser was of a good intensity. I am sort of disappointed that the battery for life plan does not cover this model, but I have emailed crimson trace for their reason.

Hope this has helped anyone with thoughts of purchasing this.

Hey yall, just bought a XDM 4.5 9mm not too long ago and I'm looking to get some extra magazines. I've seen the price as low as $27.72 on buds to $35 at SA and $40 at cabelas. I'm just wondering whether or not these prices reflect the madness going on right now, or can you always expect to pay within that range for magazines? Thanks!

However ive noticed now the grip safety is sticking now and im able to pull the trigger without having it compressed. What do i need to check and do to fix this problem??

Seems that going to her CC class opened her eyes to all the things I'd been preaching for the last year. Mind you, she's receptive, eager, and totally excited to get her permit. When I got home the next morning after her class she discussed all the things her instructor had 'taught' her which was followed by 'Which is exactly what you said'..... sooo.

At one point the instructor mentioned a 'shoebox safe' that has a false door that you stick your hand into to grab your firearm. Anyone heard of one of these? I'm not even sure what it's called or what it looks like. She's got a semi-custom drawer that helps secure her weapon but she wants better. Me? I wanna safe in the wall because I'm pretty sure James Bond would have had one.

So any help on this mythical shoebox safe would be greatly appreciated.

Just bought anXDM 3.8 45 and looked through google for grip extension for the short grip. Pearce has them for 9 and 40 but states no fit for the 45???

Also want to change the return spring snd guide rod to shoot 45 super doing less harm to the gun. I'm told no one makes what I want there either???

I think I'm going to dump my PACT XP for something else. I'm curious to know what others are using. I've had lots of problems with the PACT missing shots, and giving me crazy readings and readings that are consistently 200fsp low

Need Opinions, What's the best aftermarket iron sights?

I have had my XDM since 2009. It is a 4.5" 40s&w and always have shot very well with it. Recently I shot my friends new Ruger SD40 and was able to shoot farther, more accurately with his stock sights. Sharper and closer with the dots and easier to focus with them. My question is this, is the Tritium Nights sights worth the money and will this help with my focus on longer range shooting?

First off, let me apologize if this is the wrong place to post this. Very new to the forum and this is my first post. Now that that's out of the way.

I purchased a .40 XDm about 3 months ago. I'm going to be traveling with it this weekend and I was wondering if the hard plastic case it came in was sufficient for traveling with? If not, i'm curious what I should be looking for in a case? I have the locks and I've read all the other rules about traveling with it.

Forgive me if this is in the wrong category. I'm proud to say that as of yesterday I'm a first time gun owner and now have a XDM 4.5 9mm. It was probably overpriced but it was the best I could do in my area and patience is not one of my qualities. I'll soon be moving into an apartment with my girlfriend. She has a small revolver and with the money I invested in this gun, I'd like to keep it safe when I'm not around. I was thinking of getting a small safe for our two guns, but she thinks it would be impractical to put the guns in and take them out every time we leave. Also she assumes that intruders could just carry away the safe. I suppose these are both valid points but I can't think of any other good solutions and would appreciate your opinions!

I haven't check this in a while, so when I went to Advantage Arms to check on a Glock 22 conversion kit for a friend, I noticed they had a link up for a XD 22 conversion kit. According the the Big Bold Letters, its "COMING SOON - JUNE 2013"

Anyone interested in one? Right now it only looks like its for the XD9 & XD40. If they ever make one for my XD-45, I might have to snag one.

I was wandering around the small two lane highways and gravel roads of southeast Iowa and stumbled upon a little Amish store called Countryside Manufacturing. They mostly make saddles and harnesses it's a leather shop but they make belts too. I got a 1.5'' good thick sturdy belt for $12.79 out the door, I was ecstatic.

Pistol Target Stand

FYI:

Made a simple Target stand for my pistol with two electric fence posts.

Had some metal paper clips laying around and took a little JB Weld to the clips and glued them to the two fence posts.

Spaced them 24" apart on the posts, works like a champ. Cost a tad over 7 bucks; they don't give away that JB Weld! I am sure some one, some day will blast off the clips and more JB Weld will have to be applied!

AGP Mag extension base kit from PistolGear adds 3+ rounds. I was able to pack 16 rounds in a 13rd mag.
Works like a charm and is a lot of fun to shoot 17 rounds out of a 45 compact!

I had a set of truglo tfo's yellow rear green front installed and I don't like them as much as the all green I have on my xdm 9mm.The yellow rear sights are a lot dimmer than the green front sight in the dark.The yellow is just as bright as the green in daylight.I realize they are designed this way to make the front sight stand out more but I like the all green better.It seems to me the contrast in color would be enough for faster sight acquisition without making the rear sights dimmer.I will be carrying this gun primarily during the day so it should not be that big of a deal but if you are thinking of buying these sights the yellow rears are a good bit dimmer than the green rears in the dark.
