I sent my XD40SC in because of a premature slide lock issue. I received it back yesterday after the "refit the slide stop". With the mag in, I pulled back the slide and the slide stop didn't engage. I dropped the mag and the slide stop would disengage when pulling back on the slide. Broke the gun down and they sure did refit the slide stop, it will barely move. It's like they bent the freakin' thing so it wouldn't engage anymore thinking this would resolve the issue??

I called my guy today and he said I need to give it some time to "break it in". Does this seem right to anyone???? Why would they need to "rig" the slide stop in the first place? I mean, they should have to make the thing so stiff that it won't engage? I sent it directly back to them today and I'm pretty upset with the guy I talked to because he argued with me for 15 minutes and it really seemed like obvious they fowled my gun up even worse. I even sent the dude a youtube video that I took and he stated that I was able to get it to lock back when I forcefully racked the slide...

Am I going crazy here or are they way out of line here??

Last night I did a full takedown, cleaning, and lube job on my XD9 service model's frame... and I learned a few things.

Unless you really, really, really need to, DON'T remove the mag catch plate and spring.

Unless you really, really, really need to, DON'T remove the grip safety and spring.

If you need to remove either of these parts, have some nails (of varying gauges) on hand that you can cut to length.

My mag release plate had developed a lot of grit, so it was time to take it out and polish it. To remove the release button rod WITHOUT removing the plate:

Index your punch with the magazine catch pin on the right side of the weapon.

Tap through until the pin JUST clears the inside of the plate, but does not clear the spring.

Remove the punch, and push the mag release button rod through (there should be enough slack now)

I stupidly went the whole way, and I paid for it in the reassembly phase. Eventually, I had to cut a nail (approximate OD of the factory pin) to the outer width of the mag release plate. I attached the spring to the plate using the nail pin, then (without the release button rod installed) slowly pushed it into place, which puts a fair amount of tension on the spring. Using a smaller punch, I was able to index the pin hole in the plate, and push the temporary pin out the other side. From there, it was a simple matter of reversing steps 1-3 above:

From left to right, push the pin into the mag release plate and spring JUST enough to clear the spring, not through the other pin hole.

Push the mag release button rod in (either direction) and seat it properly to the plate.

Using another punch, index the opposite hole of the mag release plate and finish lightly tapping the pin in.

If you do it right, you won't even need the hammer.

Similarly for the grip safety and associated spring, you'll probably thank yourself for cutting a nail to the width of the grip safety lever to match the OD of the factory pin. Same principle applies here, but is significantly easier (much more room to work): put the spring in place through the temporary pin, seat the safety lever and index with a small punch, then L2R push the factory pin through following the punch. This one wasn't as big of a headache, and only took me 5 or so minutes to fabricate the temp pin and re-seat the safety lever.

This was far from a "pleasant" experience, but the takeaway is twofold:

1. Now I know that I can get to the mag release button WITHOUT removing the catch plate, a huge bonus.
2. Everyone here can benefit and gain knowledge from my pain.

I've heard of Ballistol before but no one sells it hear locally. Well a buddy bought a few of the small 1.5 oz cans to try and gave me one. This stuff's great. I cleaned my glock 19 with it after a 200 round shooting session. It was pretty dirty with carbon buildup.

So I soaked the barrel, inside and out, and gave the slide a wipe down with it. Then I go shoot the G19 again a few days later and this time when I clean it, it's super easy. It's as if the Ballistol put a protective barrier down that keeps the carbon buildup from sticking. Cleaning it was super easy this time. Pretty interesting stuff.

On a side note, I have read that a lot of people think it smells horrible. I'm actually rather fond of the smell. It reminds me a bit like licorice candy or maybe burnt brownies, I can't really place it.

The video said to use gentle taps with a punch and hammer. Well I got it out but now the extractor is bent slightly. How can I straighten it out? Is there an online source to buy extractors for it?

So i noticed the wolff recoil spring i purchased along with the guide rod was causing the slide not to come forward all the way. You could pull the slide without effort for about 1/4 inch and at times stay there. I noticed this when cleaning my gun the other day.

After googling the possible cause and not really finding any info on it i decided to give wolff (gunsprings.com) a call. I talked to Dave and explained what was happening. He said the spring might have lost its compression causing the problem. He said i was covered by the warranty and would ship me another set. Well, i received it today, exactly 1 week after calling and to my surprised he sent me 2 spring sets, both factory 17lbs with the firing pin spring included.

I dont think i've ever dealt with any company that took care of me this quick and painless. gotta give them thumbs up!

I bought a .40 XDm Compact in February of this year. I noticed after my first range trip during cleaning that there is a pit in the barrel on the opposite side of the serial/model stamp (the side that touches the slide). Is this something to be concerned about? If so, should I contact SA? The gun only has 300 rounds through it.

Since this is my carry gun, I obviously want to make sure that I don't have a defective weapon.

Earlier today I broke down the frame on my XDm for cleaning. I got everything cleaned up and looking great now. I put the frame back together and the rear seer assembly doesn't seem to be properly functioning. When I rack the slide nothing happens and the loaded indicator doesn't pop out. So something is wrong. I watched the Springer videos but they're not too good since the quality is garbage. Does anyone know of a video I can watch or a good write up some where I can follow as I re-assemble the frame again? I'm sure its something small since I get that frame back together and everything functions and feels like it should except for the striker stuff. Thanks guys.

BTW: Don't post anything related to the stickies on XDtalk there not useful and most of the pictures don't work anymore.

I would like your help before ordering a spring kit from Pistolgear, I have used them before and they are fast to deliver.
I am looking at doing a simple spring kit change out. Ccw pistol for the most part, not a comp. gun, just fun to shoot at the range and ccw work.
Pistolgear has the Canyon Creek Spring pack. 6- types of springs, a red color med. weight, blue heavy weight.
Looked at a lot of youtube breakdowns so I think that I can do it.
Is this kit any good ? $25.00 .
The blue heavy weight sear spring, is that still lighter than stock ?
The red med. weight sear spring, to light for ccw ? more for a range / comp. gun ?
I'm fine with the stock trigger travel, and it's a subcompact, I don't need it to be a tack driver, but a light trigger pull is what I would be looking for.
Thanks for your help !

TFO (Tritium Fiber Optic) sights installed on both of them. Can anyone
refer me to a QUALIFIED pistolsmith for the work? These sights require

Strangest thing happened today in the local IDPA match. I was on a 3rd string of a stage that consisted of using strong hand and weak hand shooting. Did fine on the free style, and strong hand only strings, however, when I tried to fire using the weak hand (left hand), the gun wouldn't fire. I actually had to stop the string because I couldn't get the gun to work. Several told me that I was not gripping the gun properly, engaging the grip safety. Later when examining the gun, I still was not able to get the gun to fire using my weak hand, I made absolutely sure that I was depressing the grip safety all the way in, and still no fire. Works great in my strong hand, in fact, I finished the rest of the match with no problems using my strong hand/freestyle grip. Sometimes the gun will fire, however, I have to squeeze it in "death grip" to finally get the striker to fall. The gun has over 25K rounds thru it, is it possible the internal parts have worn to the point that it will only fire when the trigger is depressed using my strong hand, since I fire it that way 98% of the time? I am at a loss for an explanation for this problem, anyone out there that can help.

Hey guys,

I noticed an issue the last two trips to the range... My slide is locking back with ammo still in the mag. This is now happening every few rounds and have tried multiple mags. Now, this is all over the place online and there are multiple issues that could cause this. The most obvious would be your thumb hitting the slide stop  I ruled that out today by holding my thumb way out to the side and causing the slide to lock back with rounds still in the mag without my thumb being anywhere near the slide stop. There appears to be a handful of people that experience problems with that little slide stop nub saying that the ammo in the mag is coming in contact with it which is engaging the slide stop. There are also pictures posted of this online. I investigated mine and have attached the photo. It's kind of close to the round but honestly, looks like enough room to me. Maybe it needs more room while the rounds are moving around while the gun is firing? I mean, something has to be engaging the slide stop right?!?! The spring has plenty of tension.. I'm at a 100% loss here and I really need some guidance on what to do.

The most obvious thing would be to send in to SA but this is my primary carry gun and would really HATE to be without it. :-(

I have been wondering if the tungsten guide rod change is really worth the money. I purchased 2 different models to try and shot both this morning. I bought one of the tungsten inserts from Springer and one from Brass Stacker. Do they really make a difference? They do add some muzzle weight that you can actually feel and I actually like the feel with better than without but as far as taming recoil there is only a slight difference. Both units were tried in an XDM 5.25 in 9mm using 2 different loads. With the e3 load already being extremely soft I found double tapping was effortless and the muzzle heavy feel adds to the enjoyment. With the Unique load which is a pretty snappy feeling load at full power with 124 grain Delta Precision hollow points slightly easier to stay on target. If you are looking for a slight edge I would say they are worth the money, if you like a muzzle heavy feel then yes but don't expect these to act like a compensator with a dramatic reduction in recoil. There is a difference but you have to be paying attention to see it. Would I buy them again? I would because of the feel and presentation improvement but not for the reduction in recoil. By-the-way, the 3 piece Springer unit worked better than the more expensive Brass Stacker in recoil reduction in my gun.

Installing the PRP trigger kits into an XD or an XDM always gets a WOW comment because of the difference between the stock and modified trigger pull...

Installing the PRP trigger kits into an XD or an XDM always gets a WOW comment because of the difference between the stock and modified trigger pull and reset. I have installed these in my own guns since they became available and was always pleased with the results. I recently purchased a new 5.25 XDM and installed the Ultimate trigger kit. While please with the resulting short take up and an improved trigger pull there was still a little something that felt a little gritty, I could actually hear something rubbing inside the gun. I have always been a little anal about trigger pulls so a gun with a gritty or creepy trigger than could not be fixed usually doesn't last long around here so you can imagine that my newest fun gun having a gritty, less than perfect trigger was causing me some distress. I put about 1000 rounds through this gun thinking all along that it would shoot in and the grit would eventually go away. I was wrong. I got it out this morning along with my XD-9 Tactical to go outside and burn a few before the rains came and the difference between the 2 guns was apparent. After my morning shoot I came in to do some cleaning and while the XDM was field stripped I decided to go ahead and take it down to the frame to try and find the problem. I could not find anything that could be causing the gritty feel so I decided to polish the trigger bar just like I always do to the Glocks. I polished the trigger bar in the XDM until it was smooth and shined like chrome, installed it back into the gun and pulled the trigger. WOW! What a dramatic difference!!! I then compared the 2 guns again and to my surprise the XDM now has a much better trigger than the XD! So the XD had to come apart also for the same treatment. I never see this in any videos or read anything about polishing the trigger bar on the XD or XDM series of guns but if you want the absolute best trigger possible be sure to get out the Dremel and the metal polish and spend about 30 extra minutes polishing the trigger bar. Along with the Springer or PRP trigger kits you will also get the WOW! factor.

The Springer Precision is the only one I have found. The only problem I have with this is the location. I have an idea, and the materials to build one of stainless steel that would replace the roll pin striker retainer. Can anyone think of a reason why it wouldn't work, or why it shouldn't be attempted? I want something similar to a slide racker from an STI 2011, without drilling the slide... thoughts?

Quick question for everyone out there. I am still learning things about guns so don't harsh on me for asking this haha. But I have a subcompact XD 9mm and I was wondering. If I wanted to swap calibers (.40 for example) would it just be a matter of getting a .40 caliber slide and a .40 barrel and then using the same platform/stock? I had a buddy who said it is possible to go down in calibers on the same platform/stock (like .40 to 9mm) but not up.
Thanks!

Ps..also yes, new magazines haha

I am new to this group and hope that there is a good answer. I bought an XDm9 from a friend and the gun and 4 magazines have a camo Duracoat finish. I wish it was original. The XDm9 was originally black and I would like it black again. I either want to remove the Duracote or Recoat it with Black. Can it be Recoated without removing the existing Finish. What are my best options to have a black gun? I love the XDm9. It shoots great.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, John

I'm not sure this is the correct forum for this, but has anyone seen an animated video of the inner mechanical workings of the XD? In particular, the XD Tactical, but I think they are all so closely related that a video on any of the XD pistols would be about the same. I'd really like to see just how all the parts and pieces function together.

I have a 9mm Storm Lake barrel for my XDm 40 and was thinking about reaming it out to 38Super or 9x25. Magazines would be an issue with length. Anybody know anything about possibly using this caliber in the XD. I'm just finishing up a 1911 in 38Super and I like to have several guns chambered in each caliber to have more options in which gun to shoot. I don't have any experience in this caliber, yet.
I do plan to get a 5.25XDm in 9 or .45(decisions , decisions ) so it would be sweet to shoot 38Super(or 9x25) in a 5.25! Whether a person can even find a 5.25 Bi-tone is another thing all together.

For those looking for the absolute best trigger after installing the PRP or SP trigger don't forget to remove the disassembler bar and lever. I don't see any comments or questions about this device for the XDM owners but it does reduce the trigger pull by a few onces and the aggrivation of fitting the trigger kit by tons. It is very easy to remove and the only thing I can see that it does is keeps you from having to pull the trigger to get the slide off the XDM and is basically the only difference between the action of the 2 guns. All you have to do is drive the grip safety pin in (from the right side) about half way and the lever and spring will come right out. Then just drive the grip safety pin back in and you are done. Now my XDM 5.25's trigger is as good as my XD-9 Tactical after adding the SPS UM Trigger kit. Everyone may already know this but I don't see any discussion about it on here anywhere so I thought I would share for those who are interested in the best trigger possible.

I have a 5.25 in 9mm i bought a short time ago to start shooting a little 3gun and maybe some other competition events. Never really cared for the trigger and had been looking on here and other sites for a place to do some work. Discovered that PRP is only about 45 miles from me so that helped make my decision. I happened to have to make a run to Baker today so took my 5.25 along. I got there during the lunch hour so the gunsmith wasn't there. The lady's at the front desk could not have been more helpful, which includes friendly and knowledgeable. They made sure of exactly what I wanted and if there was anything they could do for me before i left. When they found out i was from out of town they said there might be a chance they could get it done today to save me a trip back. as i was driving out of the parking lot a truck pulled up and rolled down the window. the guy introduces himself and asks if there is anything he can do for me and if the got me all fixed up inside, i tell him all good and i go have some lunch and stop buy one of the gun shops in town. then i get a phone call saying my gun is done and i can come pick it up. i also find out from another business in town that they are usually gone by this time on Friday and must have stayed late to finish my gun up. I don't know about you guys but I have completely given up on customer service but these guys and gals couldn't have done any better. Oh, one more thing, the trigger is fantastic.

Hello all, Im sure all of you are aware of the roll pin issue with the XDs. I was at the range the other day with my buddy who also has an XD9, and his roll pin broke. The XD9 still functioned after that for another hundred rounds or so before the pin actually cracked into pieces. I'm wondering how long the roll pin actually lasts? I think XDs are still great pistols, regardless of this problem. Do you know if Springfield will cover this under warranty as a 'preventative maintenance' type thing even if my roll pin has not YET broken? I have a few thousand rounds through my XD9 with not one problem at all. Although I never dry fire, i have a feeling my roll pin will go out soon. thanks
