First off, I'm extremely pleased with my XDm in .45 acp. It is everything I hoped it would be. I am a fan boy now :)

After firing several hundred rounds and subsequent cleanings, I am curious if others find the inside of their barrel similar to mine. All I can describe it is "cloudy". Between the grooves, on the smooth part, it looks like it needs cleaning - after a thorough cleaning. It came that way and all the brushing in the world with Hoppes doesn't make a change. The patches are clean when forced through. My other handgun and rifle bores all shine like a baby's butt once cleaned so I ask the experts - is this normal for the XDm match barrels? Thanks in advance.

I recently picked up a XDM 4.5 9mm, with about 200 rounds already through it.

I was wondering if anyone has every had a double fire through their gun before, I think that is what happened, it all happened so quickly but at least no one got hurt.
I was getting ready to go out for the day, dropped one round of Federal Law Enforcement +P JHP HST in the pipe, and slapped the magazine in. Just as I was about to holster it, my finger slipped and tapped the trigger, causing one round to go off with a loud bang. The gun slipped out of my hand, dropped and hit the bed frame. I quickly remove the magazine and the round in the pipe. I look around to see where the bullet went, one through the pillows/headboard/wall and stopped right before the garage wall. The second round in the frame of the bed, splitting the wood. I couldn't figure it out, I thought one round went off like it ricocheted, until I found the second casing. The bullets are still no where to be found.
Here is my question, with the +P rounds, are they suppose to stop once it hits an object and not continue through?
I recently picked up a 22lb recoil spring to handle the +P rounds, so I hope it helps.

What's up y'all? This is my first post, so please be gentle. I just purchased a used XDM .40 Compact from my local gun shop. It looked like it was in great shape until I got it home and started cleaning it and noticed some crud in the bore. I think its copper fouling but I'm not positive.

I'm looking for some suggestions on how to clean it. I am not sure what else to do at this point. The pictures below are after I tried cleaning it multiple times.

Here's what I've done so far.

First Attempt:
1. Ran a patch soaked with Hoppe's No. 9 Solvent
2. Ran copper brush through bore
3. Multiple patches through bore until they came out clean
4. Fouling still there so I repeated the steps leaving the solvent to soak for 15 minutes. It didn't clean it.

Second Attempt:
1. Coated bore with CLP and let sit for 2 hours
2. Ran copper brush through bore
3. Multiple patches through bore until they came out clean
4. Fouling STILL there

Third Attempt:
1. Coated bore with CLP and let sit overnight!
2. Ran copper brush through bore
3. Multiple patches through bore until they came out clean
4. Fouling STILL THERE?!?!?!?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I am going to purchase my first concealed carry handgun and the two options I like the best are the Springfield XDm compact 3.8 in 9mm and the Springfield XDS.

This will be an almost exclusively concealed carry gun.

I am 5'10"/185 lbs. with a 33 inch waist.

Here's my dilemma: I have held and fired both these guns and I like everything about them with one exception each. The exceptions: I don't want the XDS in .45 ACP and I'm concerned about the conceal-ability and comfort of carrying the double-stack XDm.

Which leads to my question(s). Has anyone had experience using the XDm compact as a concealed carry and if so, how was it? Does it "print" badly? Is it comfortable?

The XDS is coming out in the next month or so in 9mm. Should I wait and buy it?

I feel some urgency to get a CCW. If the XDS was at my LGS in 9mm right now, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. What is the better trade off? Wait for it to show up, or buy the slightly larger XDm and sacrifice some conceal-ability and comfort?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and help.

Just doing my normal pre-range prep to take my new AR and XDm (haven't shot yet) 4.5" out for some fun.

After some mobile one , q-tips , and a barrel clean (couldn't find a cleaning patch -- used a small piece of toilet paper) I did some racking and a dry fire.

Wow , this trigger pull (whilst light) -- is longer then a phone call with my old lady. I'm used to my Glock 23 Fulcrum -- now I wasn't expecting a 2.0lb crisp snapper but I wasn't expecting this drastically long pull.

Bottom line : this piece of crap trigger has to go. my XDs trigger without the prp springs was much better then this 5 mile mush master.

Wife and I are going to start doing some USPSA in June. I have my gun already (going to rock my M&P 9c, production division, figure good practice with my carry piece, and not looking to win/dominate... will eventually get a full size). The wife carries an XDs, and our other handgun is a Colt 1911 (will be used in single stack in due time).

So, with that in mind, we went shopping for a gun she can use in USPSA, and being that she is a big fan of the XDm's naturally gravitated towards the XDm 5.25 in 9mm. I happen to like it a lot as well, which is a nice bonus for me.

Not planning on tweaking the gun at all this season, beyond some possible grip work. Was curious what experience you guys have with the Talon grips, and any good comparisons of the rubber versus granulated ones. I am thinking the rubber will be more than grippy enough, but am slightly concerned about how well their grip factor holds up to sweaty hands. Also, how aggressive the granulated grips are.

I am currently working up loads for my 5.25 in .45 acp. My decades old favorite accuracy load for my 1911 is not great in my new XDm. So today at my range, I discovered what the gun liked using W231 powder and Sierra 185 JHP. One simple combination. At 25 yards, my best 5 shot bench rest group was 2.030" with 3 of those 5 into 0.586".

My question is, what is considered "accurate" for this pistol at 25 yards? I'm curious what you all are getting from your 5.25 in .45 acp. Thanks in advance.

:shock::lol:

:shock::lol:
Well, finally got the XDM 9mm compact. Havent been able to find much ammo to go to the range as often as I like, so far only about 150 rounds down range between the two of us. Been playing with snap caps, practicing trigger feel, clearing the chamber, etc.

Main reason for the compact was my wife loved the XDM 9mm 3.8" that we rented at the range when deciding and comparing with G19 gen4. Our first handgun, so I needed her to be comfortable with it (this way she has her own and I can talk my way into a 4.5" later for me).

Well, she shoots it well however rackin the slide is tough on her and she is fairly athletic and no weakling. Had her watch youtube vids on slide tips, etc. but takes all she has to get it back and release. On top of that, to lock the slide back is a major struggle, it seems that only the tip of her thumb is hitting the slide stop lever so she just dosent have leverage to push up while trying to hold the slide back and keep her grip and safety depressed. Is the "double" recoil spring on the compact stiffer in comparison to 4.5 single spring. A buddy has the xdm 9mm 4.5 and it seems as though she has an easier time racking it (but still tough to flip the stop lever into place).

My questions are:
1) Will the recoil spring "soften up" as we put more rounds through it? It seemed as though she had an easier time with the rented gun (probably with many thousand rounds through it as a rental). I've been repeatedly racking the slide to see if I can soften it up, does this help or hurt it? (would rather shoot it, but I refuse to pay $0.50 per 9mm round or camp out at WalMart)

2) I have the default medium size backstrap on it. How much difference does the small backstrap make. Will it bring her thumb much further forward so she gets more of her thumb on the lever?

3) Is there an extended stop lever. Ive seen Glock extended stop lever, but cant find for xdm.

Thanks for your input. Just want her to feel comfortable with it so she dosent get frustrated, discouraged and never pick it up again. In her frustration she mentioned maybe the G19 would of been better, second guessing the decision,etc...

I have had my XDM 9mm for a little while now, and put about 400 rounds through it. When I first got it, I was shooting low left. I have improved my technique, and figured out how to get rid of shooting to the left. I am proficient enough now where I shoot and place in the range I am sighted on, but I it is still going slightly low.

Is it possible the that sight could have gotten bumped and misalligned? Is it easy to knock them out of allignment? Has anyone else had this problem? Or is it just me and the way I am shooting? If so, what am I doing wrong?

So me, my pops, mom, and wife went by the local LGS today (the same one I ordered my XDM from on March 25th) because my mom wanted a M&P 22, and my dad wanted a S&W Model 627.

Well while my folks were looking at the S&W's I went over to the Springfield counter and asked if they had any XDM in .40 S&W in stock, they checked and said yes we have a black/black .40 S&W 4.5 in stock. So I asked since I've been waiting over a month could I take the 4.5 instead of the 3.8 I had ordered and they said yes. The funny thing is I got $32 bucks back so I got the 4.5 for $665 out the door. Didn't take the money I got a surplus ammo can a box of .22lr for my moms gun as they had a shelf of mini mags but its one box per person and a pack of .40 snap caps.

Anyway got my XDM finally!

And here are the family's guns. Wife's pink G27, moms M&P .22lr, dad's Model 627 Pro series had to be ordered...
A little background – I had an XDs which was great but I wanted more capacity, so I sold it a bought a Glock 27 which I loved so much and bought a 2nd (the wife wanted one). So I was in the market for a good polymer 45 and was sold on Glock since the 27’s shot so straight and are very reliable. I thought maybe the Glock 30s was for me and my LGS called me when they got one in.
Well I show up today and the first thing I do is look it over and try to field strip it, the slide would only separate by about an inch and stop so I ask my buddy behind the counter to strip it for me once my thumb and index were too sore to keep trying and he couldn’t get it to go either. Well long story short he gives it to the owner and he comes back with it soaked in oil and he says here you go try it now, well I got it to field strip finally but the RSA scratched the bottom of the frame pretty bad. I immediately said no thanks I don’t think that is the firearm for me, he put it up and comes back with a XDm 3.8 45 (my first love) and I knew right then that was the one. I can’t wait to break it in and start carrying it. Anything to be aware of? I am like a kid in a candy store right now!!! :p

Hi i'm new here

sry for my bad english is not my native

so i go do buy on friday a xdm 5.25
and there is the proplem i love .45
but it is expensive and heavy und only 13 rounds
And the 9mm 19 rounds and so on.

So is it possible to take the 45 field strip it and put
the slide barrel recoilspring and mag from the 9mm
5.25 on the 45 and it works or not?

If it is possible it will be perfect because in my country
it takes no place from my guncarde when i have only
A other "upper" slide

thx nagoja

Just got the slide and barrel back after being coated in Tungsten / Graphite Black and love the look. I wanted something a little darker than the factory stainless. Also had new Trijicon HD sights installed, and I installed Powder River's trigger, mag release, and a handful of other small lightweight parts. Also did the decals in carbon fiber / silver from Cutting Edge Artworks. The difference in the trigger is amazing. Love my new toy!

Shortly after shooting my XDM 5.25 for the first time I knew I was going to have to change a couple of things to make it work for me. So far I have installed a PRP drop in trigger kit, PRP granular grip tape, added a stainless steel guide rod, changed the front fiber optic to green, and took the slide stop off and ground it down to a small enough size my thumb does not keep it from holding open on an empty mag. So much for being competition ready out of the box, but I have enjoyed working on it though. It is really fun to sling lead with. Might add a magwell to it at some point. but here it is for now.

Reduced slide release. I really flattened it out against the slide but its still plenty strong.

Hey all,
I've been lurking around this site for quite a while, but haven't posted much. Thank you all for the abundance of information though!

I've been looking for an XDM 45 Compact, preferably in Bitone, and haven't had much luck because everyone seems to be out of stock. I've seen a few black ones on GB, but they have been going quite a bit higher than I think is reasonable, however I haven't seen ANY bitones. Anybody have any clues on where to find one in the wild?
Thanks!

I am having a problem when shooting. I am right handed , and I always pull down and to the left. While searching for some answers this morning, I came across a thread on this forum which was very helpful. I then went to retrieve my XDM 45 acp 4.5 so that I could give some of the advice a try. I removed the magazine, and ejected the round from the chamber, checked my grip, tried the support hand hold with relaxed fingers. I looked down the sights and something was terribly amiss. I rubbed my eyes, looked down the barrel again and then it hit me. The white dot inside my front sight was gone, missing, nowhere to be found. I now have two white dots on the rear sight and just a black square for a front sight. What the H :!::?:. Has anyone else had this happen?

I would like some suggestions on a quick fix, before I wind up spending money on new sights.

Thanks
Michael

I ask because my shooting partner has one and so far it has been disappointing. Please don't waste my time with advice on how to shoot accurately. My shooting partner is an excellent and very experienced shooter and shoots extremely well with any pistol that he owns, or the ones that I own. Please understand that I am a fan of the XDm and own the 4.5 in .45 ACP that's a tackdriver.
He mentioned the accuracy issues before our last shoot which was yesterday. He fired both factory ammo as well as several handloads I make that we know to be accurate. I bought a Ruger SR9 a little over 3 weeks ago and it is very accurate. To prove his point, he shot groups with my SR9 that were excellent, and groups through the XDm 3.8 C that were unimpressive. The best load we fired was with one of my handloads using the 124 gr. Montana Gold JHP over a warm charge of Ramshot Silhouette. It shot exceptionally well through the SR9, and while it gave him the best accuracy in the XDm 3.8 C, the groups were average at best.
We're both interested in opinions from you guys that have the XDm 3.8 C. I don't need any information regarding other XD or XDm 9mm pistols. My shooting partner has considered installing a trigger kit from PRP or Springer, but feels like that may just be throwing good money after bad. He's also considering selling the pistol and buying the Ruger SR9c, or maybe the SR9 if he becomes convinced that he can properly conceal it. That is an entirely feasible proposition because the SR9 is as thin or thinner than the Dan Wesson CBob he sometimes carries. He'd really like to stick with the XDm C because he's bought 5 or 6 extra mags to go along with the 2 that came with the pistol. Match grade accuracy is not what he's expecting, but neither does he want to carry an inaccurate pistol. So how do you guys that own them and carry them feel about their accuracy? ;)
