I have 2 AR's. One is geared towards 3 gun use, the other towards SHTF use. Right now both have the Miculek/DPMS compensators but I'm looking into changing them both.

On the comp gun my number one criteria is reduction of muzzle climb, obviously. The faster I get that second shot off the better. I don't care how loud it is or if it feels like getting punched in the face standing next to it. I believe the DPMS does a good job (especially for such a low price) but I really don't have anything to compare it to. So averaging out cost vs. function and considering what I'm already using what would my best option be?

I did some side prone shooting with the SHTF gun a couple weeks ago and almost choked to death on the dust it kicked up. I'm looking for a do-all here. Muzzle climb reduction and flash suppression without excessive blast all the way around. I haven't used one but after seeing one in use and reading/watching reviews I'm seriously leaning towards a Griffin Armament M4SD II flash comp. Thoughts?

In the midst of all the craziness i decided to build an AR. at the time only lower i could find was a New Frontier polymer.
then came a CMMG LPK. Del-ton A3 flat-top upper, UTG mil spec buffer, tube and spring, MOE stock, RVG, MBUS sights, free float rail, ergo grip ladder rail grips.

The lower was disappointing at first but after some filing to get my lpk to fit it seems fine. Only upgrades i plan on are a spikes buffer and maybe a forged lower and ofcourse a decent optic. will have to save for that. anyway here is my end result.

opinions??

I need some feedback. I am looking to add a flashlight and remote pressure switch to my AR. I have been looking at the Fenix TK22 or TK15 but I don't like the idea of the remote switch wire to be coiled, I want a straight one. I believe te coil will be a mess and my hand will get caught in it. I went as far to call Fenix and ask if they knew of a straight wire remote for their lights and they said no. So now I am back to square 1. I want a light plus remote switch with straight wire on a budget of about $150 -$175. I would like it to have high, low and strobe and want more than 200 lumens but nothing crazy like 800 (prob can't be done at that price anyway) Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Anyone have a favorite? What did you pay for it and where from? I have a AIM Sports carbine length rail that uses the delta ring and i really like shooting with A2 Irons... but i would really appreciate the extra sight radius. I'd loose the A2 front sight... not really heart broken about that, since i'm going to put glass on it anyway and use 45* transition irons with a reflex between 'em. But i'd like to keep it light, but strong. DD has theirs, and i'm familiar with them but yikes $400 on their website.

So I'm curious what you've found. What kind of barrel nut did you get with it? Attachment?

Well I found some good deals on Amazon this morning.

I was going to get the M&P soft case but I like the matching FDE case and it was only half as much as the one with S&W M&P on it.
Got this for $29.99 free shipping!

And I've been needing a sling, this one is the MS2 and was the same as the case $29.99+free shipping

Can anyone explain to me what the major difference is between the M3 sling and the M2 sling? I saw some other slings that weren't Magpul but they didn't come with clips. So I just went with the M2 because it'll match all of my other Magpul furniture.

I started piecing this build together in October of 2012, and just completed my final assembly last week. After months of research into building a compact legal AR15 with future goals of being registered as a SBR, I opted to build up a DDLES Glock pattern AR15. I ended up getting the receiver pretty quick since I went with a 6065 billet version. The DDLES Glock modified bolt did not arrive until March of 2013.

Fortunately I bought most of the build before the November/December train wreck. So I was able to source high quality components inexpensively. I installed a Geisselle SD3G trigger, a PWS 6065 pistol receiver extension, heavybuffer's 11.5 ounce buffer with a Wolff XP Spring. Battle Arms Development CASS ST ambidextrous selector. Magpul MOE-K pistol grip. Magpul MS3 sling. Small Colt parts were used for the lower. I sourced thirteen 32 round Glock 9mm magazines.

For the upper, I went with a VLTOR MUR with the shell deflector only. I was lucky enough to source a 10.5" BCM chrome lined 9mm barrel. Once I received it, I sent it to ADCO and had them cut it down to 7.75" and had it profiled down to .625" for additional weight savings. A Vortex 9mm flash suppressor was installed. Troy Industries BUIS, tritium dioptic format were installed. A Noveske NSR 7" rail was added. I modified the rail to allow my weapon light to sit further to the rear. The concern was the light would stick out past the muzzle device. I then used a Mossie Tactics mount that attaches to the front Troy BUIS. This mount places a universal mounting rail ahead of the front sight and lowers the height by approximately 3/4 of an inch. A Surefire X300 Ultra was then mounted to the Mossie Tactics rail. Noveske NSR rail covers were added to the NSR.

A Raptor ambidextrous charging handle was installed in the upper. An Aimpoint T1 2moa dot optic was installed with a LaRue absolute co-witness mount.

Once all the components were in hand, I stripped all the parts down and sent the parts out to WMD Guns to be refinished. The plan was to internally coat the entire rifle in Nickel Boron and apply a top coat of Burnt Bronze Cerakote to the exterior of the gun. 2.5 months later, the lower, upper, barrel nut, receiver extension, charging handle and bolt were coated inside and out in Nickel Boron. The exterior of the lower, upper and receiver extension was then painted in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. The Noveske NSR rail, Mossie Tactics Mount, upper side plate, receiver extension plate and magazine button were painted in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. The visible portion of the Raptor charging handle was painted graphite black Cerakote.

I sent additional parts to another coater for painting as well. I sent the Surefire X300 Ultra weapon light, the Aimpoint T1 and the bases of the Troy Industries BUIS's in Burnt Bronze Cerakote.

The barrel and flash suppressor were salt bath nitride treated for additional wear resistance.

It took about five or six hours to assemble the weapon. I took my time, used a torque wrench anywhere I could get specs. Locktite was used in various strengths in different areas. Aeroshell grease was used for the barrel nut, flash hider and receiver extension.

I then color filled the markings on the receiver with black lacquer. This came out great and has a nice subdued look.

Enough BS, here are some pictures!

I picked up my first start to an AR today. I had ordered a New Frontier Lower a few weeks back, and after some driving today was able to finally lay my hands on it.

I need the "Experts" to help me find, or piece together an affordable & reliable, AR Upper. I am fine with piecing it together, as I am on a limited budget, and time isn't an issue, but the sooner the better.

I realize buying a complete upper is probably the best bet, but it is also the hardest to come up with that lump sum of cash.. I look forward to this build, and will check back often for input and to give updates.

It seems to me, to be a well built polymer lower, but what do I know?
Here is a Pic of what I have so far..

Realize higher cost for piston and that they initially had some issues. Would be a possible hunting rifle as well as SHF rifle. Not looking for actual models ( eventually will be..), but just what you think is better and why?

Hello All.

So I've been wanting to do an AR build for quite some while and finally decided to start it since prices have been going down and items are more readily available. So far the build list looks as follows:

24" Stainless spiral fluted bull barrel complete upper assembly from Marks Armory. Should have it in Monday or Tuesday of next week.

BCG is coming from Shadow Ops Weaponry. It will ship out no later than the 29th of this month they claim. But if it takes longer than that that is fine, I can pull a BCG out of a different AR I for the time being.

PSA Lower that is shipping out today to my FFL.

PSA Lower Parts Kit (shipped 5-16)

PSA Classic M4 Stock Kit (shipped 5-16)

Magpul MOE Trigger Guard (shipped 5-16)

Molon Labe 'Boondock Saints' Charging Handle:

So built 2 ars today did a new thing. I was blind lining up the gas ports. No indents on the other side. Both front sight and gas block are held on by set screws. So the look cool. Bets on if they'll cycle or will I be loosening the gas block/front sight post and turning them leading to adjusting the barrel nuts to keep the gas tubes lined up with the gas keys?

Top ones primarily for Helpdesk. He is pretty happy.

I'm putting a PSA lower together tonight, trying to decide which stock I want to put on it. I have a Vltor emod clone on my Doublestar and I really like it but I was thinking maybe a CTR on this lower. I've become somewhat accustomed to the nice cheek weld on the clone but I really don't need the storage for anything, and I don't really care for the looks of the STR and ACS. Is the CTR cheek weld the same as a basic carbine stock?

Need Help Finding a Barrel

So the long, LONG road towards a custom build is lurching closer to being done.

The only missing parts are a bolt and a barrel. I'm waiting for the bolt I've selected to be back in stock, so that's covered. The barrel is a different story!

What I want is a 16" stripped barrel, pencil / light weight profile, with a mid-length gas system, and withOUT M4 feed ramps.

That's it. Hard as hell to find. Does anyone have any resources or clues as to where I can buy this unicorn?

The closest I've come is a barrel that meets all the requirements, but has carbine-length gas, and a barrel that meets all the requirements, but has M4 feed ramps. So close, no cigar!

Thoughts?

(Note: my upper does not have M4 cuts, which is why I don't want M4 feed ramps on the barrel extension.)

Right now, it's hovering around 70-80 cents per round. Pre ammo craziness it was about half that. Should I wait it out a little longer? Thanks!

I was looking at either a noveske or a Quentin defense billet upper. Both look good to me, I'd like to hear some opinions from you guys on which one. If you have another recommendation please feel free to share.

So I decided that this year was when I was gonna dive into suppressors, and bought 3, a gemtech halo, gemtech multimount, and a YHM mite. Got the trust, filled out the form 4s, and was like wow, this is easier than i thought. now the wait.

Got to thinking and decided to start 4 SBRs and do the even easier form 1s. SBR'ing an AK pistol, my m&p 15-22, and building a SBR 5.56 AR and a 9mm AR.

Well now to the point: I bought a DRD tactical billet lower from rainier arms which shipped within a day for my 5.56 build. I own two PWS rifles now, one in 5.56 and one in 7.62x39 and I love them and decided this is the route I want to go for an upper. Keep in mind I waited 4 months for each long before the craze.

So I contacted PWS about the lead time on the 10.5" upper and they said 6-8 months. I say thats perfect, it'll take me that long to get the stamp. So on tuesday, 4 days after ordering from PWS, I get an email with a tracking number for my upper, holy crap. Luckily I hadn't got around to picking up my lower from the FFL and had them transfer it as a pistol, and ordered a pistol buffer tube to keep me out of any potential trouble.

But wow, 6-8 months turned into 4 days. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, PWS rocks.

I've been using D&H mags in my ARs for a few years and with all the madness going on these days (getting better) I figured I'd do a review of what I've found so far.

Pros:
-Standard USGI dimensions so they will work in any rifle that accepts USGI mags
-I've never had a malfunction related to these mags; they've been as reliable as any mag I've ever used
-6061-T6 aluminum body. Some models are teflon coated for smoother feeding
-All of mine have Magpul anti-tilt followers but even the standard D&H mags feature an anti-tilt follower
-Price. Pre-madness these were going for around $10 a mag if you watched out for the deals. These days they seem to range from $11-15
-Available in many different colors to match your rifle's color scheme

Cons:
-The only one I can think of is a con that I'd list for any USGI type magazine---they are more prone to denting and feed lip damage than their polymer competitors.

All in all these are great mags and are some of the best USGI type mags on the market. Here's a review with some shooting, a break down of the magazines, and a discussion of the pros/cons:

First I just want to start off by say I'm not gloating but I did feel a need to share this story with all my fellow forum enthusiast. I know the the people in here can appreciate the feeling!

This past weekend was truly a trifecta in my eyes. Three great things happened and it truly was a weekend to remember. Here's how it worked out...

1. Bought my first AR Rifle (Sig Sauer Patrol 516) from LGS. Came with Sig AR bag, 2 extra PMAGS and 60 rounds of ammo. This is a big deal to me because I spent 10 years of my life serving this great nation of ours in the United State Marine Corps. This rifle feels so natural to me!

2. The wife bought me a Dale Jerrett Racing Experance package (x-mas & b-day present) and I got to drive 150(+) at the speedway.

And.... Wait for it, wait for it....

3. Let's just say it was my "Lucky Night. ;)

What a weekend. *This stuff just doesn't happen often.

Tell me about your finer times.

Well , I posted a few weeks ago that I went in Wal Mart for some Stouffers Mac n Cheese and walked out with a panther sporter AR for $500....

Now I just got my ammo in from PSA -- and I'm all ready to and set to go to the range tomorrow , and I make the error of going to the "LGS" for dinner again ...

3 Colts on the rack ... $1099-1200. I looked at just the fist one , its a black M4 marked .556 and its an LE2 something (249xx??). It had a MBUS rear and A2 front sight and a magpul moe like butt-stock (I guess it's colts standard stock). The other two are the same (I think) -- the cheapest one ($1099) was the one with the FDE magpul dressing.

Now -- I still don't know much about AR's , but from my prior "reading" -- Colts are regarded as top of the line ?

1,000 bucks I'm assuming is another steal , but im not sure so that's why I'm posting this.... I am not selling my panther but I'm thinking this could be a good investment ? Buy it , lock it up -- and let the value increase ?

I'm going to browse online and see if I can get the exact colt this was but help out here guys ... buy this sucker or no ?

When it comes down to it ... what are the "big" differences between a colt and my little panther ? I know F/A / Dust Cover but besides that is there anything "amazing" about the colt ?

Any input appreciated -- jeez I'd hate to buy this and trade the dpms for a TA31 and have a "top of the liner" :/

I am trying to install my forward assist, and am having an issue. I have my upper in the block/vise, and am using a roll pin punch to pin the forward assist in place. With the punch as a pin, it plunges in and out just fine. It still plunges fine as the roll pin pushes the punch out. However, once the roll pin is roughly 80% of the way in, it stops plunging. Am I doing something wrong, or what is the issue?

Hey yall. I think someone else made a thread like this earlier but I couldn't find it. If my questions have all been explained somewhere, please refer me. I just became a gun owner last week and I would like to some day own a rifle.

1) With the current political climate, do yall think people will keep going after the 30 round magazines and could they ever succeed? I'd like to have some so I'm wondering if I should buy those now even before I ever get a rifle.

2) My googling tells me that most magazine work in most rifles as long as they're the same caliber?

3) And along those lines, which is the most popular/cheapest caliber? 5.56 or 7.62?

4) Are these magazines hard to find, kind of like ammo is these days?

5) Finally, what's a good price/brand for one? Google tells me Magpul.

Thanks!

This will be one of my first posts on here. Happened to find a Sig M400 Enhanced and picked it up.

I'm looking to find a new optic. I have an EOTech 512 and it cowitnesses perfectly on the gun. However, I think I want the option to be ale to reach out a bit further than I can with a HWS. Probably looking at the 1.5-4 range of optics. Any suggestions? I'm probably looking in the $500 range.
Thanks!

I put my 7.62x39 together last week and got it to the range Saturday for its first outing.
The first 10 rounds or so went ok, then it started to FTE, the bolt hardly moved back at all, and when pulled the charging handle it would not budge. I ended up having to pry the bolt back with a screw driver while pulling on the charging handle to get the the shell to extract.
I had the gun smith at the range look at it and he said the bolt, extractor and stuff looked good and suggested I try adjusting the gas block, as he said it looked slightly out of place.

I did that and it would work fine for about 3 rounds before I had to adjust the gas block again, this continued until i got so frustrated I went home.

I did check the bolt carrier key as well and its staked down really well and tight.

I am shooting the Russian junk, same stuff as in my 5.56 with out any problems.
Could this 7.62 upper be picky and not want to play nice with the Russian stuff? Any other things to check?

Looking at ARPartsfinder and seeing a lot of choices out there. While there are many choices, I'm getting confused at what I'm looking at and would like to pick the collective brains of the group. Preference is a 16" barrel and a carbine length gas block/tube. I originally thought chrome lined but due to some input on the boards and a trusted friend at one of the ranges I go to I'm thinking Chrome Moly. I don't want to break the bank of this but do have a decent budget. My primary goal with this rifle is to have fun at the range and just shoot it. Not sure after that. I'm jiust enjoying the build! Any input on what else to look at?

Headed off to the range today with a LEO friend and his SO. 160 rounds of ammo through my newly-refurbished, pre-ban, politically incorrect, California-hated Eagle Arms AR-15.

I had to zero the new Eotech XPS-2 and the G33 magnifier. I couldn't be happier with the results and the flexibility of this combo.

After laser bore-sighting at the neighbors fence 60 yards across the street, I sighted the new toys at the range with a big smile.

My LEO friend is waiting for his Les Baer AR. Six months. Even though he carries a badge, the state still requires his to be equipped with a bullet button. He can have all the hi-cap mags he wants, but they still want him to jump through hoops with that stupid requirement. The plus side is that he's applied to his department's SWAT. If accepted, he'll be issued a full-auto M4 which I'll get to shoot. :D

Did I mention how screwed-up California is? I think I did once or twice in other threads.

All-in-all, we had a great time. And his SO fired an AR for the first time in her life. We have a new pro-2A convert.

As I've mentioned previously, I'm building my first AR. I'm researching handguards right now. I am really leaning to quad rails. I have a 16" barrel (DD). And what I'm thinking is a longer handguard would be better for flash light use as the light is more forward, and the light emitted would not be blocked as much. I'm leaning to either a 13" Troy bravo, or a 15" midwest. Weight isn't such a big factor I think. The weight increase is 1 oz / inch. What say you? Is my reasoning unfounded? Silly? Logical? Thanks for everyones replies thus far, I really appreciate it!
