How can I determine which model I have? All it says on the slide is XD45 ACP. I cannot post any pictures because my post count is not high enough. Is there any other way to determine the model? I had a xd45 tactical but tactical was written on the slide. This one doesn't have anything on the slide. The slide is 7 inches long. The barrel is 4 inches. Thanks in advance for your help. <>< del

Do yall think I could humainly kill a deer if he is within 15-20 yards? I will be practicing to be able to hit at that range. Does the 45acp have enough power to humainly kill a deer? I will be shooting a good hollow point bullet. thanks ><> del

So, in December, after lots of research, calls, etc., I decided to take the 460 Rowland plunge in a big way. I ordered the AR patterned 460 Rowland carbine and I ordered the conversion to my 4 inch XD45. I thought I would share my thoughts on 460rowland.com, the conversion installation and the performance of the weapon after installation.

First, I tried e-mailing questions to 460rowland.com and received no answer over several weeks before I placed my order. No one ever answered. That should have been a red flag for me, but I pressed on. Due to my line of work, I can find phone numbers easier than some so found Tom Scrimminger's at 460rowland.com and called. He said they had seven carbines left and a new shipment of conversion kits so if I bought then I should get them in a 2 or 3 weeks. I thought, "GREAT!" So, I ordered online after we talked. After 4 weeks, I called again and got no answer. So I e-mailed and left a voicemail message. After another week, I still received no answer. At this point, it had been about 5 1/2 weeks, so I was concerned; I sent a very curt and professional e-mail then followed it up with a call just after 5pm on a Thursday. Lo and behold Tom answers. He was very apologetic and explained to me he was wrong about the carbine and that he didn't have any more in stock, but should have some in 2 months if I wait. He then then said he would ship out my conversion package. After more back and forth I finally got my conversion package in March... 3+ months later. 460rowland.com needs better customer service and responsiveness. I know there is a gun boom and everything else, but I have made other purchases from other establishments and called other establishments during the same time period and had a much better customer experience. They are nice, but I will never do business with them again.

Once I received the kit, I opened it to find a high quality stainless steel barrel stamped ".460 Rowland", a compensator, red Loctite and a mag spring. The directions were basic at best, but as long as you understand how to field strip your weapon, you will be fine. It took me about 20 minutes to put it together. However, I never did find directions on the mag spring. This will come up as an annoyance point during firing performance. I let the Loctite cure for three days before I went to the range to test it out.

At the range, I brought some low-octane reloads I bought cheap from PBR, some Hornady TAP +Ps, some Remington .45 ACP and some Buffalo Bore 460 Rowland. I shot the +Ps first and due to the compensator, they felt less snappy than standard pressure 45 ACP rounds. I was even more precise in my groupings with the +P. Then, I tried the reloads. These reloads are chronographed at 745 fps which means they are way lower than even normal pressure 45 loads. The performance showed it. Because the compensator reduces the recoil dramatically, the slide doesn't have the same full cycling so it was stovepipe city on nearly every round. I was starting to get disappointed but then started to fire off the half box of Remington ammo I had. Fired off two mags worth with only one stovepipe. Then, I fired off some expensive Buffalo Bore .460 Rowland rounds (about $1.20 per round I believe). For those that have wondered, like I have, how much more recoil and performance could the Rowland cartridge really get out of nearly the same size cartridge... be prepared because it's significant. Recoil reminds me of shooting .454 Casull rounds. I was shooting at a "range" I have on some farm property and the round took a significant chunk out of my target oak tree:shock:. However, every couple of rounds, I would have jams and misfeeds. Then I thought... oh, that's what the mag spring is for. Due to the recoil energy the slide cycles faster which necessitates the next round being pushed up faster I suppose. I concluded my first session with about 110 rounds through the gun. I went back last week and the reload ammo had about the same performance. I brought some cheap but still normally powered RWS Hungarian made 230 grain .45ACP loads, some more Hornady +Ps, the 460 Rowlands and the same reloads. Reloads still were problematic but the cheap RWS loads fed fine (there were some misfires related to ammo quality, but it had nothing to do with the conversion) and my accuracy was incredible. I shot through the same hole at 10 yards several times and shot 3 inch groups at 25 yards. Then I tried one magazine (13 rounds) of the Rowlands; accuracy was bad (4 inch groups at 10 yards) but the rounds fed fine. I guess the advice I saw on the .460Rowland.com site was right about it taking some breaking in time. +Ps had similar accuracy to the normal pressure loads and felt good. I am going to order some Buffalo Bore .45 Supers to test as well. Overall functionality seems good now. I feel comfortable loading this with +Ps as one of my 2 home defense weapons. If I had this as a back up gun loaded with Rowland (or maybe 45 Supers) while hunting pigs or smaller black bear I would feel reasonably prepared. The conversion works fine enough (A- grade for me) but I probably wouldn't do it again due to the service with 460rowland.com.

PistolGear Patriot Magwell

For the longest time I was having issues with the Patriot Magwell on my XDM 5.25 .45. Without getting too boring and posting all the videos...

For the longest time I was having issues with the Patriot Magwell on my XDM 5.25 .45. Without getting too boring and posting all the videos concerning it, I will tell you that I have gotten everything to work.

Here's the deal, when I installed the magwell I was having a hard time removing it. It's slated to work with the #2 backstrap, but it really only fit with my #1 (which came on the gun). Even then the magwell ripped up the bottom of the backstrap. I did some sanding just to take it down a bit. This wasn't a big deal since I really didn't plan on removing the magwell.

The next problem was one I couldn't take and caused me to remove the magwell until it got straightened out. Here's the sequence:
1: empty mag + slide down = dropped free
2: empty mag + slide lock = dropped free
3: 1 round in the mag + slide down = dropped free
4: 1 round in the mag + slide lock = no drop

You can see where this was a problem.

To make a long story short (too late) I contacted PistolGear and received a response on a Sunday, no less. We worked the problem but still ended up in the same place.

Fast forward a couple of months and after returning the original magwell I received a "special" one made just for me (love it!). Put it on and still had the exact same problems.

Luckily I came across someone on another forum that had the exact same issues. Now I feel better knowing that it's not my gun that was out of spec. He suggested rounding the corners of the magazine baseplate. So I did, and guess what? Everything works now!

The issue is that when there is even 1 round in the magazine the spring is putting extra pressure on the baseplate and causing the edges to stick against the Patriot magwell.

I tried getting some pictures to PistolGear, but my camera would just not cooperate. Below is the video of what I had to do. One thing to note: after I made the video i did refine the sanding process a bit so that all I had to do was sand the entire back a little bit and then just round the corners. The ones on the video I worked a little too hard since i wasn't sure.

I still have to give props to PistolGear.com for wanting to make this right and by nicely sending me a new magwell that was made only for me! Hopefully the videos below will help you if you have the same problem. And I'm hoping that this is an issues that can be corrected in the future by simply removing a little bit of material from the magwell in the machining process.
Not sure it had anthing to do with it but cheeze a gun needs to fire JHP too....The recoil spring feels very "weak" for a gun this size (ie really easy to cock this gun)

Anyone ever experience anything like this with an XDm?

I am a very experience shooter and have broken in 6 guns (including an XDs) and have never had a gun stop working so suddenly...So please, no limp wrist diagnoses - looking for thoughtful answers.

I was so impressed with my XDs that I went out and bought this XDm-Comp. What a disapointment so far...It isn't especially accurate for a 5.25 competition barrel either (although that may be break-in, sight-adjustment, and getting use to the trigger).

I bought an XDS and since have fired 125 rounds. I have had 3 hang fires and several hang ups in ejecting unfired bullets and a couple of times the bullet just didn't load when racked. Furthemore if the slide doesn't go fully to the forward position or gets knocked back a millimeter the gun will not fire at all. it does seem to go to the forward position when fired but should it be able to go back a millimeter and actually stick there at all?

has anyone else had these problems or am I handling the gun wrong? I am new to shooting. Perhaps I am "limp wristing" or riding the slide. I have shot a Glock 36, a ruger LC9, a S&W M&P sheild and a S&W 5609 all with no problems. I love the size look and feel of the XDS and I do not want to give up on it.

What do you all think?

I recently purchased my second piece of my collection. I now have an SA XD .45ACP. I shot it for the first time two days ago and was surprised how easy it was and how much I enjoyed it. I own a 380 I use for personal carry and was afraid it might be a bit too much gun, but turned out to be a great gun for me.

My question is if anyone can tell me if I paid too much or got a deal. I paid 525. it came with the usual goodies in the box and two additional 13 rd mags. And let me know if I have a compact or other version. As I said, I am new. I have attached a photo.

Just picked up an XD-45 4". It's great because it fits ALL of my holsters for my XD-9 4".
Cleaned it up well and checked it all and it feels great.

I did notice that the top of the chamber (at the front) where it locks up with the ejection port isn't even with the top of the slide. (See pic)

While it feels like the barrel and slide are locked up tight I'm just curious if this is ok. The slide and barrel mate tightly together and the slide cycles smoothly just wondering if this is any big deal. They guy I got the gun from said it cycled and fired flawlessly.
