So my wife and I just completed our Nebraska CCW class after trying for about two months to find a class date that fit into our work schedule. I must start off by saying that I learned a great deal of very useful information, especially in regards to federal and state law. Our instructor asked us a lot of scenario based questions that really made me think "What would I do in that situation?".

Taking the class certainly made me realize just how serious the topic of concealed carry is and how important understanding the law will be. Now we both just need to turn in our paperwork and all of that good stuff to apply for the permits. Our instructor told us that the current wait time if we apply in Lincoln is roughly 2-3 weeks so that is good. I currently have my XDS sitting in a White Hat Max Tuck and also ordered a pocket holster from Alabama Holster Co. so I am very excited. So all in all it was a good day and highly informative.

As far as the shooting went I am very happy with how I performed. That is my best grouping yet since owning the XDS. We each fired 30 rounds in all:

6 rounds from 1 yard
6 rounds from 3 yards
12 rounds from 5 yards
6 rounds from 7 yards

I am not interested in +P.

My XDS purchased summer 2012 has about 800 rounds (mostly 230 grn commercial and my reloads round nose) through it, and works well with 230 grn Remington Golden Sabers (no other defense ammo tried due to current ammo shortage/prices).

I have been shooting a couple of 9mm M&P's for years. I really like the compact 9. It is accurate and really smooth to shoot. They both have Apex trigger kits installed with 4.5 lb pulls. About six months ago I bought a 4-inch XD-45 service model and put a PRP trigger kit in it. I found it pleasent and accurate to shoot. However, I did not buy an XDs45 because I didn't think I would like shooting such a small gun with that much power.

I recently purchased one of the new XDs9's because I thought it would be more concealable than my M&P compact. I took the XDs9 out to range and put 200 rounds through it. I tried it with both the large cap mag and the standard mag. I tried that standard mag with and without a pinky extension. So far I find that it is no where near as comfortable shoot as my M&P9c. The trigger is too stiff for my liking and I have yet to find a comfortable grip combination. I shoot groups with the XDs9 that are twice the size of what I get with my M&P9c. Until the trigger lightens up or until find a good trigger kit, I don't think that I will be able to shoot the XDs9 as well as the M&P9c.

There are some trigger kits out there that might help and I like the one from PRP that I put in my XD45 duty pistol. However, I did have light primer strike issues with the lighter striker spring and I went back to the standard spring. I now have a nice 4.5 lb pull with a crisp break and an acceptable reset. The kits currently on the market for the XDS are just spring kits, and I don't really want a light striker spring given the issues that I have had with that sort of setup. Maybe Apex or PRP will come out with something else for this little pistol.

In the meantime, I'll keep shooting the XDs9 for another 500 rounds to see if I can improve my performance with it.

I've noticed a few members have asked about the hard to use mag release. I'm re-posting this to help.

After I had my XD-S .45 awhile I decided to reduce the effort needed to release the magazine. The one I had was hard to do. I succeeded in making the mag release lighter but to the point of too easy. I repeated the process for my new XD-S 9mm and now it also works nicely.

Here is what I did: http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-s-di...e-lighter.html

I sent my XDs 45 to Springfield last month for repair of repeated lite strikes. I got it back last week, 10 day turnaround. The repair order said the extractor was adjusted. It took it out yesterday and was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. It had repeated lite strikes, 8 to 10 out of 40 rounds. In addition it had 3-4 failure to eject. I noticed that the extractor was not catching on the case. I will be calling Springfield today but IMO this is poor customer service. I do believe there is a design or manufacturing fault with my pistol.

So i decided to try out how the xds would fare in my normal running routine. Normal jogging apparel and my xds in a swift draw IWB holster. Put on two pairs of under armor compression shorts to help keep it in place. For the run, the gun felt great and was a welcomed addition. There was however, some light bouncing with each step. Does anyone think this will affect the gun over time? Just curious because i dont want something to inadvertantly shake loose from bouncing so much. I run about 4-5 miles each day and would prefer to have it on me. Im a little shaky about a ND happening mid run but the grip and trigger safeties keep my mind at ease about that.

Just picked my XDS9 up from my ffl today. Shipped Thursday from Kyle's, and arrived Saturday at my ffl, but it turned out they use a PO box so I couldn't get my hands on it until today. Anyways im about to clean and oil it, then throw on some rubber from talon and hit the range tomorrow. Super stoked to put a couple hundred down range! Also excited for my wife to shoot it (my xds45 was a little much for her) but also not so excited that tomorrow may be the last time I call it mine. I have a feeling she is gonna love this thing like I love my xds45! And that's not a bad thing either because I did pick it up hoping it was a good match for her.

9mm XDs with Sandpaper Talon Grip (which I think I like better than the rubber, however when I am carrying it would DEFINITELY grab whatever you're wearing over it).
2 Seven Round Magazines (no grip extensions yet, ordering the 9 round mags next week)
TruGlo TFO Night Sights

I came very close to buying the XDm 9mm... I looked at it today and the 19+1 round capacity was incredible! However, I just couldn't pass up the XDs 9.

I wanted a leather holster as they're softer than the kydex/hybrid holsters, and put less wear on the gun.

I have a High Noon Holsters IWB holster and I'm very frustrated.
The quality and workmanship are outstanding, it's really a very well built holster BUT, it just won't let go of the gun. And that's with the adjustment screw removed!

Just how long does it take to get a holster broken in anyway?
Right now if I try to pull the gun I literally pull the holster right out from inside my waistband and it's hanging by the retaining clip off my belt.

It carries comfortably, in the 1 o'clock position, AIWB (as long as I don't sit down too suddenly) and holds the gun securely, but it's holding it way too securely.

This holster cost me a cool $135 and now I'm thinking of looking at something else. The problem is there are no shops near me that carry near enough of a selection to choose from. Certainly none that are custom fitted to my gun. The best I can find is generic one-size-fits-all holsters of questionable quality.

Are my expectations for an all leather holster unrealistic? I mean this holster makes me slower than Barney Fife.

I got my XDS .45 earlier in the year and love it. Haven't had any issues with it and carry it every day. A good friend of mine just picked up the 9mm version of the XDS this week so we went to our usual range this weekend to shoot both guns and compare.

The main thing I noticed right away shooting them back to back is the huge amount of recoil difference. With the .45 you really have to take up the slack in the trigger, get the sights set and feel the trigger break precisely to get on target. With the 9mm you can squeeze round after round off and still keep a fairly tight group.

The 45 feels way more powerful but the 9mm is much easier to make follow up shots with less pause in between. I'm debating selling my .45 and picking up the 9mm because if I ever have to use my gun to defend my life the adrenaline will be pumping and the 9mm seems like it would be easier to keep on target.

The other thing to note is that my .45 has eaten tons of different kinds of ammo without a hiccup. His new 9mm (which was cleaned and lubed before shooting) had some major malfunctions. The first 4-5 mags he got 4-5 light primer strikes. The primers were punched on the edge and did not go off. It seemed to be better after about 7-8 mags but still had an occasional 1 or 2. Also the gun failed to go back fully into battery after some rounds. We were shooting UMC 9mm ammo, maybe it is too light of a load?

In any case each gun has it's pros and cons and they are both good but to me very different guns even though they are the same size and nearly the same weight. By the way the LGS/range said they got 12 of them in already and my buddy got the last one. I think the price was $550.00.

I have a question... and a little bit of OCD.

I have the Springfield XDs .45. However, I love the weapon so much, I just have the urge to purchase every model that Springfield has available! I definitely will buy the XDs 9mm... but the more I look at them, the more I want the XD SubCompact as well. I know this will just lead to more and more purchases like it did with my Walthers. A Walther PK380 (380)... then the P22 (22LR), then PPS (40), then PPX (9mm), then PPQ M2 (9mm).

I just appreciate the weapons as almost art in a way... the craftsmanship, precision, etc. As well as firing them and cleaning them (every little crack and crevice). Almost as if I would hang them on the wall... Am I collector or a Gun owner?????

Oh, and I also have a 1963 East German Makarov 9x18 (My first handgun owned outside of the Military)... I keep is locked away, spotless. I've fired it a number of times and it's literally an INCREDIBLE weapon. MINT condition... In fact I had it for about 10 years before I ever even fired it.

I do own a Spikes Tactical AR-15, but I mostly just work on it and do modifications to it. I never had a passion for rifles like I do handguns... and not really revolvers, just semi-autos.

Any thoughts?

The 5 rounders shot fine... however the 7 rounders felt as if they were going to come loose while being gripped and firing the weapon... which actually happened with one magazine. It "popped" out while I was in process. After a quick check a slap and slingshot had be back putting rounds down range again.

I'm thinking of changing out my stock xds sights for a set of TFO s. Having read some of the threads, mostly posted several years ago, I'm apprehensive in regard to their dependability. (Tubes falling out, breaking, etc...). I'd like to know if they have improved and corrected these problems. I have a set of Trijicons on My Beretta and like them, but I really like the fiber optic during the day/tritium night idea. Again my question is about the reliability of these sights.

I have carried my Kahr CW9 for about 3 years now ad my primary CC weapon. Honestly, I love the gun. It fits my hand perfectly. It shoots well and has never once had any type of failure when firing it. It carries very well IWB. But, it has one glaring and major problem. The magazines. Put simply, the suck out loud.

According to Kahr, due to the offset feed ramp design of the gun, the mags have to be loose at the top. All of mine have the classic and well documented loose round problem. It is so bad, that when I pull the spare 8 round mag out of the mag holder on my weak side, typically the top one or two rounds will pop out of the mag! I have tried the home brewed mods that members have posted on Kahrtalk.com and they help a little but they do not solve the problem. According to Kahr customer service, this is how the mags are designed to work.

So, after three years of trying to fix this problem with no success, I am dumping the gun and I'm going to get myself an XDs9. I have held an XDs 45 but not the 9 yet but I know they are the same size so I think I'm OK.

We already own several XD's. My wife carries an XD40 sub compact every day and I have an XD40 and XD9 in service size so I already know I love the XD. Much more than the Glocks I own.

I have read most of the threads here and yall have helped me make up my mind to go with the XDs9 over the S&W Shield.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info and I will post about my new gun after I get it in the coming weeks.

Guys,

I need some advice. I am a self taught shooter attending a class for the first time (other than CHL classes). My wife gave me a Tactical Rifle Home Defense class for Fathers Day.

The class is in South Texas (read hot as hell  ) and will have portions inside and outside. Now the instructions say wear appropriate clothing.

If I need to go buy BDU's etc I will but what would this board say is appropriate clothing?

The basis of the class is "there is a bump in the night ... what do you do." So I don't see a lot of going prone.

Just wondering what you guys think

Today my son in law came over and he brought his sig 9mm. I shot it and I said ok here is my new xds 45, I want you to shoot it and see what you think. He shot about 4 5 round mags through it and looked at me and said This is a 45? He fell in love with it. He said my 9mm has more recoil than your compact 45. The next words out of his mouth is HOW DID THEY GET A 45 WITH THAT LITTLE OF RECOIL? I got to get me one of those!

I will not knock another gun manuf. but I was not impressed at all with the SIg. He then shot my SA 9mm 4" barrel and said this thing is like a cadilac
of pistols. He couldn't get over the fact that Springfields were so good to shoot. What I did not like was the length of travel it took the trigger to fire.

Anyway thought I would share that. As usual springfield worked flawlessly.A great day of shooting at home!

I just purchased an XDs on Friday...Have not had a chance to take it to the range yet. I have a question about racking the slide to eject a live round as if you were emptying it to show it to someone. If I load a full magazine, then chamber 1 round, then need to eject the round to clear the weapon, it seems to hang up in the chamber/slide area. Is this due to the gun being brand new? Just curious if anyone else has seemed to have this issue before use.

I got the XDs45 in January of this year, then last week, added the XDs9 to my collection.

I LOVE my XDs45. It has been a pleasure to shoot. I've shot 840 rounds through the XDs and haven't had a single issue. I have modded it a bit with PRP grips (more on that later), Trijicon HD night sights, PRP Trigger kit, and Molon Labe rear plate for good measure.

On the XDs9, I've put on some Talon grips and to be honest, I think that's the only thing I'm going to modify on this gun.

I just got back from the range. I shot 125 rounds through the XDs9 and not a single issue. I did clean and lube it before I shot it. The recurring theme I see from people who have issues with the XDs is either they don't clean and lube the gun before first use and/or they don't rack and hold it with authority. I can't emphasize enough how much I like the trigger on the XDs9. My completely unscientific guess is that the trigger feels like a 5-5.5 lb pull. It definitely feels lighter than my XDs45 did before I did the trigger job on it.

Accurace with the factory sights on the 9mm is spot on. I shot from 40 ft today and consistently hit center mass/bullseye and head shots were extremely closely grouped. I would have to say that my XDS9 is a hair more accurate than my XDs45, but I attribute that to the trijicon HD night sights that I have on my XDs45. It's not that the Trijicons are not accurate -- they are just quite a bit bigger than the factory sights. They are not meant for the range. They are meant for a real life threat where you need to quickly acquire your target.

Surprisingly, the recoil of the XDs45 does not feel that much more significant than the XDs9.

I got both guns for slightly different purposes. Both will be for CC, although the 9mm will be my CC for during the day and the .45 will be my CC for evening/dark (hence the night sights).

It goes without saying that it's nice that my holsters for the XDs45 fit perfectly with the XDs9. The only thing that didn't fit were my mag pouches, but that was to be expected since the mags do have slightly different dimensions between the two. Even though the XDs9 mags are slightly smaller, they still fit in my mag pouches. Just not as snug as the 45 mags. I usually just carry a spare mag in the pouch in my pocket, so I'm okay that it's not 100% snug fit like the 45 mag The difference is so negligible that for pocket mag carry, it's fine for me, but others may have a different opinion on that.

I have PRP rubber grips on my XDs45 and Talon grips on my XDS9. I will say that I like the Talon grips better. They were a lot easier to put on and I feel that they fit better than the PRP grips.

Anyways, both guns are an absolute pleasure to shoot. Springfield hit a homerun with both variants of this gun. It's fitting that on father's day, I can't pick a favorite son between the two guns. haha ;)

Just picked mine up on Thursday after a grueling bid-war. Took it out to the rand yesterday and got a few FTF's. This was BEFORE I read about thoroughly cleaning, removing lube from striker channel, and re-lubing other areas. Well, I did all that last night, took it back to the range this morning and shot another 100 rounds (mixed american eagle brass and Blazer aluminum) with zero FTF's, FTE's, or any issue.

I like it!!!

Picked it up locally near Lansing, MI for $480 (before taxes, etc...).

Looking at holsters, range bags, and general stuff to waste money on!

Hey guys,

I'm a serious and long-time scatter gun shooter, and just started picking up handgun shooting in the last couple of years. I've been shooting them more and more, which of course for any reasonable manly man results in buying more toys! I was on several waiting lists for an XDS-9 and guess what arrived Friday? My new XDS-9!!!!!:p Picked it up yesterday. This is my 3rd Springfield handgun. I got it all cleaned and lubed and can't wait to shoot it!

So don't make the mistake I did and assume you need to take the baseplate off to change, just slide the backstrap up and off and replace with the smaller backstrap if required.-Dick

Very happy with our xds 45 and 9mm.

1st Time Gun Owner. Looking for Feedback

Hey guys! I am hoping to get some good feedback and build some solid knowledge here. I checked out a few forums and seemed to have the most helpful members here!

Just got my first ever gun, an XDS 45. I am already on the wrong track as it appears I should have cleaned it before taking it to the range. (Did not see anything about this in the manual) This is the type of thing I would like to avoid in the future!

A little about me:
29 year old living in FL. Shot a couple of rifles as a kid but that's my extent with guns. Over the last couple of years I realized I was not taking full advantage of my rights and decided to get a passport, vote in local elections, etc. It dawned on me that owning a gun could also be on that list and the journey started.

Over the last few months I have applied for my CCL and purchased the XDS 45. I have a few friends who are into guns but in all honesty they kind of scare me! I pray that I never have to shoot anyone but would like to be prepared if I am ever in that situation. Their mentality is somewhat different. Hoping to find some sane, rational options and insight!

Lastly I would like to know what you guys are using along with you XDS in a few different areas. If you have any additional ideas you'd like to throw at me it would be much appreciated.

What are you using for:

1. CC holster?
2. Gun cleaning kit
3. Range ammo
4. Defense ammo
5. Gun safe (already ordered bulldog 5500 but can always return it)
6. Anything else you can think of!

Hope to hear back from you guys and excited to be a part of the forum!

I have called the Academy Sports corporate office on three separate occasions since the release date of the XDS 9mm given to me by SA customer...

I have called the Academy Sports corporate office on three separate occasions since the release date of the XDS 9mm given to me by SA customer service. These were frustration calls inquiring about the absence of the XDS at my local store. Corporate could only tell me repeatedly that there was no such firearm in their nationwide inventory or order system. More than a few of us on the forum were getting the XDS 9mm's at Acadamy in other states while I was be told that there was no such animal..maybe October..keep checking with us. Some were saying that they just walk in to AS and utterly run into the latest version of the gun. Well, that's just what I did! Got it. The kicker was that I let the early birds go for it. Washed and cleaned the family cars. Played my guitar. ate a late brunch before heading into work and got the foolish notion to go by AS not only late (by gun grabbing standards) but only 15 minutes before being late for work. The guy at the gun counter says the usual.."no we ain't got that gun and really no XD guns at all..things have been slim". I'm wondering, why do I do this to myself! Fruitless effort to get this gun again. I then ask the attendant, " would you please just check your gun safe since I came to the store pressed for time". He obliges.."No not one in the safe and all the good guns are already bought early this morning.. your are late (he laughs). About 10 minutes till work time. I am frustrated resting on the counter to stay calm because I believe my forum members are right and this company under today's supply and delivery of firearms is in the dark. Because of you guys I kept taking chances at this kind of lottery game at AS. About time to go and not be late on top of empty handed.. and THEN..a guy walks up to the counter with what he says are the last two guns from the truck. One box is S&W box and the other an XD style case..Wait NO.. its an XDS case.. surely AS would know this is not a 9mm as much as I have pestered them about it. The attendant opens the case an says " it is here"! You get the first one. I was like the butterfly in the jar with the lid suddenly removed in my excitement. I wasn't about to get happy until I saw it myself. Well I leapt in the air, fist pump a few times, did the paperwork and drove to work with my XDS 9mm. They look on the employees faces was priceless. They were saying.."No way"!! You managed to get the first one right from under everyone's noses"!

Hi all. Just purchased an XDS this am. I had another brand(Baretta PX4) in lay-a-way but when I was making my payment last week the salesman made a statement, "We have XDS on sale next weekend". I'd heard of them but hadn't really been too interested. I prefer hammer guns for the perceived safety. I googled XDS and found this sight after doing a little more research on the gun. I decided I'd give it a try since it had the grip safety. I like 45's, it didn't have a magazine safety and everyone said it concealed well. So this morning I went in and asked if I could change the pistol I had in lay-a-way and was able to. Paid it off and went straight home, cleaned it and began puttin some lead downrange.

I'm also getting my CHL, probably late next week. The Texas website said it in "Manufacturing". Yeehaa!!!!!

I do believe this is the first "tool" I have ever bought that I hope I don't have to use for intended purpose.

Anyway, I want to thank all of the contributors here for all the discussion on this firearm. I'm loving it so far. :D:D

Only have run about 50 rounds thru it with no failures of anykind that can be attributed to the pistol. I didn't allow the slide to slam home the very first magazine full. It don't like that. You MustNot follow the slide when charging.

Have ordered 2 Pearce magazine extensions/caps and a 7 round magazine.

I do hope the magazines lighten up a bit. They're a bear to load; just 5 rounds! Tain't no big thang tho.

Just got my xds today. Ran 100 rds with no issues. I'm sitting here dry firing with snap caps and when I reset the trigger manually by racking back about half an inch the slide does not return to battery. I have to bump it with my thumb to move it forward. Does this loosen up with break in or is it one of those idiosyncrasies peculiar to the xds?

Today my father and I went down to a pit to shoot a bit. We sighted in his AR with his new scope and I zeroed mine. Then we started shooting pistols. I loaded my XD.45 and stated shooting and my father started shooting his XDs. We where at 10 yards and he was not even on the 11x18 target. I tried giving him a few tips here and they're about grip and trigger control ect. We continued shooting and I pulled out my XDs and started practicing drawing from concealment and other stuff and noticed his grouping was very tight but about 4" low and 6" left. Well I said here let me shoot it. I was in the same spot and I had been drawing smiley faces on my target. I am started to look at it and this is what I found. Attachment 21706
I started to try and move it back and it slid around like it was to small or the cut in the slide was to large. It moved easily with the push of a finger and once you centered it you could shoot but it slowly drifted right. This was bout factory new 4 months ago and has been shot 200 times at most. He is gonna take it to the local shop where he got it and if they cannot fix it we are gonna contact Springfield.

On another note I crossed the 1k mark with my XDs with zero failures and the sights are still dead on lol.

Any suggestions a d sry for the blurry pic.

Ok maybe I was bad.... picked up my XDs-9 two weeks ago. Field stripped it, wiped out the excess oil, walked onto the range, and put 150 rounds through it. Five days later, put another 150 rounds through it. And yesterday another 100. Note that I'm not mentioning cleaning... between range trips I did field strip it, wiped out a little carbon, and it was looking pretty clean. Tonight I took it back to the range and immediately had an FTE, and another, and then the trigger wouldn't reset by either recoil or manually racking the slide. After firing it was stuck in the fired/pulled position. Field stripped it right there and wiggled things around, didn't see any foreign matter, reassembled it, and only got another dozen shots before it started acting up again and I put her away  and got out my Shield-9.

Back home gave her a good Hoppes cleaning and I did find a little crescent sliver of brass from a shell. A good Frog Lube and everything seems to be working great again, at least dry firing. Trigger seems to reset consistently now. Eager to get back to the range and run another 100 through so I can see if I have a defect or if it was my fault. I'm thinking it was me. If you're gonna shoot her hard and get her dirty like that you have to clean her up after.

And a PS: When I pulled out my Shield-9 and shot today I was stunned by how much more accurate I was, and with the light recoil. Did all the hype deceive me into pre-judging the XDs was going to be the best handgun ever? I might be rethinking my CCW.

Good afternoon all!

Had my eyes on an xds for quite some time but could never find a lgs with one in stock. Except one store that wanted 700. Well I went out of my way and found one about an hour away. They actually got about 10 of them in the day i called by dumb luck. Ive been a sig sauer guy since day 1 but i had to part with one of them to free up some funds. Traded in my p226 since it wasnt seeing anything besides the side of my bed.

Good lord do i love this gun! Recoil is mich lighter than i expected and it conceals like a charm. I'm 6'0 205 and it just disappears. Hit the range with it last week and only had 1 FTRB but that was with my gf shooting it and most likely limp wristing. No problems for me.

I am not as accurate with it as my sig 229 but that will come in time. Since i picked it up it has been my EDC and couldnt be happier. Its all black, pics to follow when i get home. Cheers.
