got my 22# spring

I got my 22# spring today! Installed it using the video as a guide. You guys weren't kidding when you said that the slide is hard to lock back compared to the 18# spring. I thought that an extra 4 # couldnt be that much worse...Well, I'm off to the range to check it out. Gonna see if it helps on the recoil any.

Well, the spring does help somewhat with the 40S&W. However, for the Wolf 9mm ammo, the spring is too much. I guess the 9mm doesn't have enough kick to it. I would get FTE's quite frequently and the slide wouldn't lock back here and there. I had to change back out to stock spring and rod for the 9mm. However, no problem with the 40.

P.S. Does anyone else have their skin rubbed raw right on the thumb knuckle? I got some after 250 rounds or so. Guess I better adjust my grip or buy a pair of gloves.

I think the 22# spring is a good compromise. I bought both the 22# and 24# Springs, and with the 24# spring it was so stiff I ended up racking the slide "overhand" style every time. I keep the 22# spring in. The factory spring assembly was showing wear anyway.

The 22# works fine for my XD-9 Service. I've shot 115 gr FMJ in WWB, WMC, CCI Blazer and 115 gr JHP by Winchester. The Don's rod and 22# spring functioned flawlessly with each. However, I have not shot any Wolf since I've heard it is very dirty.

What is the stock XD9mm spring, I think I heard its a 18, and if so does a 22 help reduce recoil?

18# is factory spring, the 22#, IMHO, gives a reduction in muzzle flip, and makes the gun feel more solid when firing. But now that I've backed down to a DGR and an 18# spring, I must say it still feels good and solid, but cycles better on lighter loads, and more reliably. I think my problem was the stock rod/spring system just felt sloppy as heck and made the gun feel unsteady in my hands, but I do like the 18# weight again, with a DGR in there.

Thanks, I am going to get the DGR and a 18# and a 22# and see which works better for me and the ammo I am running.

Thanks again,

Dave
