Don's Guide Rod for XD-9 Tactical - Fitment Issue
I recently purchased one of these solid guide rods for my XD-9 Tactical from XDGuys. When I got the rod I eagerly took out the old one and put in the new one and tried to put it back together and it wasn’t fitting right. So I took the slide back off and took out the guide rod and compared it to the stock guide rod. The retaining ring on the back of the solid guide rod was a larger diameter than the stock one. I got my calipers out and measured the difference between the two. The stock guide rod outer diameter was 10.95mm. The Don's solid guide rod was 13mm. Since the outer diameter of the retaining ring was too large I put it in a lathe and cut it down to 10.95mm to match the stock size. Now it fits as it should.
Is this a one off mistake that I got or is there an XD model that needs this larger diameter spring retainer? |

sourpatch45> Since I got the DGR from XDGuy's I let them know about the issue and they said they would contact Don about it. Like I said before I don't know if it is a product problem or if I ordered the wrong version. I don't know the vintage differences between the XD pistols well enough to know if I ordered the wrong one or not. From what I could find, on the XDGuys website they only had one version for the XD-9 Tactical.

Did you get a stainless bushing too that did not fit anything?
There is a "skinny" rod for the .45ACP Tactical that has the 13mm head, and uses a bushing to size the slide hole down so that you can use standard 1911 springs in the 45 Tactical instead of the fat rod and springs. It sounds like you got one of those rods (easy to mix up stock if you have them out of the bag, I check and recheck before I ship but it could have happened on my end if I was distracted). Turning the head down is the right thing to do and now you have the correct dimensioned rod for the 9mm Tactical, so no worries for what you did or how it should work. Just sorry that it got to you like that. |

Don> No bushing was included in the package. Just the solid rod. Oh well, sounds like an easy mix up. I was more worried that I had the totally wrong guide rod, but all of the other dimensions were correct so I assumed that it was just a simple manufacturing mistake. All is well though, it is fixed and I gave it a 100 round test run today and it works great. Thanks for the quick response!!!
