Issues w/guide rod for XD-M...
I picked up the stainless guide rod for my XDM at pistolgear. I installed it and everything was fine until I tried to remove the slide again. I now have to give it a firm push to remove the slide. It appears the rod is not an exact match to the factory rod. The rod spring lip is a bit thicker and is probably the cause of my problem?
Can you chime in Don? |

The thickness of the head does not interact with anything other than it adds a few thousandths of compression to the recoil spring. It is loose enough in the locking block that it should not be any problem at angle, so I am not sure why it should feel any different, and it should not change anything on takedown.

It could be a matter of the spring binding and nothing more.

Don> Different question, what is the lb rating of the stock XDm guide rod spring? If I wanted to go with a softer guide rod spring what would your lb reccomendation be? Lastly, is the XDm guide rod spring unique or a commonly found part that is also use in other XD variants?

I was able to do a quick rod conversion for the XDm by modifying the length of the fat rod for the .45 Tactical. I was able to play with a rod but not shoot the pistol, so I have nothing to offer on the spring opinion.
This is where you early adopters tell us what to think, so offer it up! |
