9mm tactical
I will be purchasing a 5" version in 9mm. I was pondering the option of getting the full length stainless guide rod from springfield.
Is Don's guide rod option any better? Does it offer any advantage over the springfield armory stainless guide rod? The springfield guide rod is around 70 or 80 bucks. How does Don's price compare? This will be my first pistol, and I am a newbie. So if I missed a previous post on the same subject I'm sorry. Unrelated question for whomever feels like amusing me: The recoil spring on the service looks like one spring over the top of another. (like HKs set up I think). And the tactical has only one spring? Is there any advantage or benefit to one step versus the other? Thanks. |

The Service model has a double spring because it has to do a lot of work over a shorter distance than a typical 5 inch gun; this is a typical arrangement in 4"" and shorter length barrel pistols. The double spring setup believed to be more reliable and consistent than the single spring setup.
Not exactly sure why you want a different recoil spring rod for the Tactical. If you simply want to use different spring weights, any spring that fits a 1911 five inch model will work in a Tactical XD.

Snake-eater 1 pretty much said it in few words!
Is that enough or do you need more? |
