Got it!
Man, that was aggrivating! I finally got my full length guide rod installed, though. Top quality product don, I wish I had another XD so that i could buy more of your guide rods
 I am using the brass washer right now because i got angry and cussed at the delrin washers, the brass washers are heavier and stay inplace better during installation.

Thanks mattw! ajamesp51 suggests a bit of grease on the washer to hold them in place during installation, and that should help. Also position the spring end so that it is near the barrel when you install. Since you have to start the rod at an angle, the spring end wants to go that direction anyway and wants to take the washer with it (or sproing thru the hole first). Starting the spring end already on that side pretty much holds the washer in place with no surprising shifts.
It will get easier with a bit of practice too.
