I need help!!!

I just got back from the range and after cleaning my buddies 4" XD 45,
I tried to put the slide back onto the frame. I didn't get it all the way back to the slide lock position before it got stuck . . .and I do mean stuck.
Now it won't go forward or backward. Does anyone have any idea what
I need to do, before I have to call my buddy and tell him I broke his gun?
I have a 5" tactical and I've never had this happen. Please help!!!!!
