I have been looking for a guide rod/spring setup for an XD-45ACP Compact 4" without luck. So I decide to ask in this forum if anyone knows where I can get such a setup. Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just in case it looked like I was ignoring this, I sent him a PM days ago.
Basically what we know, the stock springs do not seem to hold the slide in battery consistently, so nothing offered yet. I think this can be solved, but I do not have the time and money to trial and error my way to this yet. This is a good example of capitalism, develop the spring and sell them. I can do the rods, but do not have the time now to do a spring. Make the right springs and I got your back. |

I know I am showing my ignorance here, but what is the difficulty about making the springs?
Is it the actual making them or is it difficulty finding them already made to the right spring rate? If recoil springs are not progressive, then why cant a longer spring be cut to the right length? (maybe this is something you already tried?) Is there no way the stock spring can be utilized on the new guide rod?

The spring needs to have a minimum force at the installed length to both cock the striker and hold the slide in battery, the final force at full compression, and have a stack height just a bit shorter than the space provided, and not fatigue too fast. Cutting down springs has not worked, and making custom springs takes some time and risk, and no one has jumped in yet to do so. It can be done, it just has not been done.

As Don mentioned, the task is harder than just finding a spring. Since the spring is to be used in a firearm reliability is a must and the trial & error process is both long and expensive.
Some day, we all pray for springs. OS

Guide Rod and Spring
Thanks Don for at least researching the issue and getting back to me in a timely manner. I understand that this is not an easy issue and if you ever get time to develop the parts fine and if not I am sure you have given the subject matter your utmost attention and that is more than I can ask for.

My 45c 4" has the Canyon Creek tungsten rod and whatever spring came with it. Are you saying those springs are no good?

I had heard that Canyon Creek was doing more work on the springs, which may or may not be the case. If your spring works, then it is good.
I had some springs work with my prototypes, and other of the same part number not work, so it is right on the edge of being fine. |
