What model XD do you have?

The XD 5" Tactical model already has a one piece guide rod, but it is hollow. Changing to a Don's Guide Rod will give you a slighty heavier, solid stainless rod. Otherwise, both rods can use the same springs.

The XD 4" Service model uses a multiple piece, two spring guide rod. Changing to a Don's Guide Rod gives you a solid, single piece (fewer parts to fail), plus it allows you to customize your spring weights to your needs.

I'd start at 18# (stock weight) and go up or down from there.

Bottom line guys ... And I really want to know.

I understand the guide rod issue. But I can't seem to find an answer to my spring questions.

Why would you want to change the spring weight?
Does an 18# spring offer less resistance to the slide?
Does a 24# spring provide more resistance to the slide?

Does more slide resistance equal - less muzzle rise or less?

If I'm using a lighter ammo (less kick) should I use a lighter spring, or a heavier spring?

Inquiring minds REALLY want to know!

more spring weight = less felt recoil...until you reach the point where the spring is so strong the gun won't cycle.

i got my dgr when my stock guide rod assembly broke. for me, it was a reliability issue that the solid steel rod solved.
