Interesting range test with the XD357Sig Service....
I reported last time that I was having problems with my XD357Sig Service slide going into full battery (it would fall short just by a hair) using the DGR and 20 and 22 pound springs.
Per Scott's (Pistol Gear, the Best!!) recommendation, I tried the 24 pound spring and my gun performed perfectly - 100 rounds, no problems using the same ammo. Yeah, it does require some elbow grease to rack the slide with the 24 pounder but not much more than is required with the 22 pound spring. Now here's my dillema....I also tried the 18 pound spring. And would you believe, it worked fine as well. 100 rounds fired and zero problems. All springs used in testing were brand spanking new. As far as the ability to get back on target and felt recoil, I really didn't notice a tremendous difference between either the 24 or the 18 pound springs. I would say the 24 pounder does keep the muzzle down better than the 18 but it's no show stopper. The 18 pound spring on the other hand, makes field stripping (re-inserting the spring) and racking the slide easier. My question is in terms of wear and tear on the gun itself, would I be better long term, keeping the 18 or the 24 pound spring in? Thanks. I may try a differerent 20 and 22 pound spring (again unused) to see if it makes any difference. Springs sometimes can be strange.

Follow-up....I tried it (XD357Sig Service) with the DGR and 22# spring again this past weekend and all is suddenly well. No more failures to return to battery (same ammo was used for testing). My suggestion to anyone starting out with the DGR is make sure your XD is well-broken in using the standard (captured) recoil spring before switching to the DGR. I can't provide any hard core data but my suggestion would be shoot at least 500 rounds with the OEM spring first before switching to a DGR. And then I would leave the DGR and whatever weight recoil spring you prefer in the gun compressed for a few days before firing to give it a "set." Don/Scott, I may be totally off-base with this suggestion but who knows. 'Just trying to help.

Good to know, I've been considering getting Don's guide rod and springs but have held off. My XD 357 is at SA with a broken extractor. I made the request to get a new set of springs while it is in the shop. We'll see what it comes back with.
