Sub compact spring/guide rod failure

Mine failed at about 2000 rounds, about 3 rounds into an IDPA course of fire. The larger spring on the guiderod overcame the guiderod itself and poked out the front of the gun. Fortunately, it did not chamber a round when this happened. Springfield folks were helpful and polite, fired me out a new one in a few days. I have pics but apparently I can't post them here...

You can't host pics here, but you can have them on another site and link to them here.

I think you might be onto something with the dual interference springs (Like valve springs). That is a pretty common upgrade when increasing the valve lift with a cam shaft to protect the engine from causing the valves to meet a piston (Better Control at RPM). Just a thought.

Any further progress on a replacement guide rod from Don? Would it be possible to duplicate the stock spring arrangement but with stainless guide rod, brass bushings, etc...?

Nothing new. Basically while I think it possible to come up with a spring, I think it will feel and perform exactly as the stock so no real benefit. It has been quite a while since I heard of the stock assemblies grenading, so I think that problem has been fixed. As far as repeating the stock design with stainless, it would be doable but not enough market to be profitable I think.
