Can refinishing spring hurt it?
Hey guys got a question for everybody who has had their springs refinished.? Did the refinishing hurt the springs? I had my xd refinished the guy also coated my 22lb spring now the spring dosen't have enough strength to push the slide all the way forward. It will while fireing the gun but you can push the slide back against the saftey and it will stayt there then the gun won't fire if you pull the trigger. The stock spring guide rod will push the slide close again. I never had the spring in before refinishing so I can't say if it worked fine before refinishing. The shop has been refinishing guns for over 15yrs never had a spring problem they have done other guns for me never a spring problem. This worries me as if I draw my gun to defend myself and my gun dosen't fire it will be a big problem. I am beginning to beieve this xd is more trouble then its worth ie crappy finish jamming (polished the feedramp) now spring problems. Maybe I should just stay stock. I know one thing is for sure I am sticking with my Hk uspc 45 for protection on the streets of Detroit. But any ideas are welcomed.

Get a new spring. They're cheap.
I can't imagine refinishing a spring is a good idea, but it's certainly not productive.

If the stock spring is still working, that means the slide fit is fine and the refinished spring has lost temper. Unless they sent you the wrong spring.
But don't lose faith in the pistol, the spring problem is a self inflicted wound. I have more than a few of these type of projects around that I "improved" until I got them to fail. Do as [TASF]Overkill suggests and start to enjoy your pistol again. ...as an afterthought, the correct spring is for a Springfield Compact 1911-type pistol. If it was a spring for some other maker's compact it may have started life too short. |
