Thanks for the info. I bought my wife a DGR w/22# spring as she was having trouble w/multiple FTF/FTE when shooting with only one hand and the stock setup. The 22# spring helped her control that, but I've wanted to pick up an 18 as well just to see.

I like seeing data like this. Basically it shows that spring weights are a personal preference. I like a 22# spring in my XD40, and more than that I pretty much shut up. The real thing is that there is a series of springs in shooting a semi-auto; your stance is a spring, your arms are a spring, your grip is a spring. That sum is what what makes it work for you. There is probably a bell curve of preference for a starting point, but ultimately shoot what you like!

today was the first day since sunday that wasn't unbearably cold. nevertheless, i had to sit in my truck to reload and change springs. anyway, i shot from around 8 yards...i probably shot faster than i did inside, due to the cold...first i shot 20 with the 18# spring:

the i shot 20 with the 22# spring:

then i shot 10, again with the 22:

then i switched back to the 18, and shot another 10:

then i got too cold and quit. i think accuracy at this distance is not much different between the two springs, but i still like the 18# more...all your nice responses make me feel like i contributed something to this forum, which is nice because i in turn have learned so much! thanks!

Just my 2 cents.. I have both the 18# & the 22# for the XD40. I found that the #22 help me get back on target just a tad quicker than the 18# or stock spring. Other than very slight difference in the follow up shot. I can barely notice the difference when shooting.

I love the fact That I get to choose whats fits my needs!

nice work there amishclark. was both the 18# tests with the DGR spring, or was one of them with the #18 stock spring/rod assembly?

cheers

Spent a little time with mine and the new DGR and 22# spring. Took a little getting used to. After 200 rounds, definitely like the new setup. Groups are better at roughly 45 feet (6" to 7") and at 20 feet is good for making large holes in the target.

Once again, amish, thanks for a facts-filled range report. I look forward to reading your future posts.

i did decide to stick with the 18...it can't hurt to have a spare around, though...i'd sell it to you for slightly less than the price of a new spring, seeing as how its slightly used and all. the round count on the spring is posted in this very thread...i'm interested in hearing what you think of the new setup!
