Recoil Reduction?
How much would the Don's guide rod with the 22# spring reduce recoil on the XD40 Service model? (approx % )

That's a tough one, since recoil affects different people differently. Some people think it has a great effect, others feel it has a minimal effect. I suppose it is how tight you grip and how much you "let" the muzzle rise. From my own judgement, I'd say muzzle rise is reduced by 30-50%. The full force of the recoil is there but it is spread out over a longer period of time.
Some members have reported better split times so it sounds like they are using a competition timer and judging from that. You can tell I am not good at making outlandish claims, but I do like how the recoil feels with the 22# spring in my XD40. |

I have the 22# spring and rod in my 40 Service model. I can't put a % on it but I would say there is a slight improvement in muzzle flip and slight but noticeable reduction in felt recoil. It's a nice improvement (if not dramatic). I'm glad I got it. Like Don says, YMMV.

great guys I appreciate the quick reply, I rented the xd40 and am planing on purchasing one once Wayne county here in MI. decides to issue my carry permit. When I fired the range gun, ( it was almost new I was the 2nd person to fire it ) the recoil did not bother me but the muzzle flip was slightly a different story, since it seems to reduce that, I will get the rod and spring as soon as I get the gun. Thanks again. Don and RicochetJim

I wouldn't say that it reduces the recoil much at all. What it does do, and do pretty well I might add is make the recoil more manageable. There is definitely a difference, the gun wants to "pop" if you will back into place and on target better with the upgrade.
I definitely love mine, it was a wonderful upgrade for the price. I'd recommend that you buy a few different spring weights to check out though, I bought a #20 and #22 with mine, not much different but I seem to prefer the #22 a little more than the 20. |

I'm expecting my rod and spring in soon for my xd40 tac. I went with a #24 though, based on others suggestions...
