Installed my new DGR and 22# spring...

I was a little leery about it at first, having read several comments about it being tough to rack the slide with the 22# spring, but after installing the whole kit, I racked it a few times and it wasn't bad at all! Maybe a little harder than with the stock spring, but it certainly wasn't what I would call difficult. Also, I'm a left, so I always struggle with the toggle, and it wasn't any more difficult holding the slide back with the 2# spring than it was with the stock--at least not that I noticed.

Now I can't wait to get to the range and see whether my XD9 handles any better. Haven't had problems before, but I am really looking to speed up the time between shots and reaquisition--I'll report back.

i didnt notice much of a differenc with your setup. its still good to do based on the fact the factory guide rods can crap out on you. dont like the bling though, wish don would coat them in black.

The black issue comes up a bit for you bling haters. Remind me on Monday to call one of my vendors from work that can do black stainless (they do it for Gerber knives) and I will talk to them about getting a small batch done and then pricing for a large batch.

Can you guys live with a ring of silver on the bushing or are you wanting a total blackout?
If it is too pricey I can provide a Sharpie®!

I got one for my Tac 45. The only thing I noticed was that the slide release was a little harder to release with the 22# spring.

I had not thought of low friction rods, and as I have good stock now they would be a ways off, but that is an interesting idea.

The first rods I did were using a very low friction bronze washer, or an alternate Delrin washer, so the rod material was not a big issue. When I did the rod for the tactical I stayed with a soft stainless, wanting to make the wear part the rod rather than the slide. Some of the competing rods spec a hardened stainless, which seems to be ok but would make the wear on the expensive slide rather than the cheap rod. None of us will probably see a problem in our lifetime with either choice, but if your "soft" DGR wears out to where it causes a problem send it to me and I'll replace it.

I have had the 22# spring and Don's guide rod for some time. It made a world of difference! It is harder to rack the slide yes but very acceptable considering the better proformance.

Strongly recommend this combination!

I have purchased the DGR and the 22# spring but not installed it yet. I will do that tonight as I have some range time scheduled tomorrow, the wife will be shopping and I will be shooting. I will pay a lot of attention to the racking issue as my hands are in bad sahpe.

yea i shot my sister's stock XD9 side by side with mine with the 22# spring. the slide takes noticeably more force to rack, but nothing major. a non issue in my book. couldn't really perceive a difference in recoil.

Have any range reports after shooting with the 22# spring? I am going to order a DGR soon and wondered if it caused any issues with shooting WWB 115 grain ammo in an XD-9?? I'm trying to decide between the 20# and 22#. Not too worried about being able to rack the slide but will it cause any issues with shooting ammo that is not loaded as hot as others?
