This is too light, IMHO. Even at 16lbs, you can knock the slide out of battery with ease. I would suggest nothing lighter than 18# on the Service and 16 on the Tactical. I know that some are running lighter, but that does not make it 100%.

Actually I can hold it by the slide and the weight of the gun will pull itself out of battery. But when drawn from a holster it pulls it into battery. Now I must clarify I am not using it in this setup for CCW just for IDPA and to tinker around trying to find the best combination for me. It has been 100% reliable in this format for me. I do like the heavier springs as they keep it in battery but my accuracy is much improved with the lighter springs.

I've got a XD9 with the mods in my signature. I'm planning on getting a barrel eventually but want to order up a guide rod asap. I use the gun for the range and as a home defense weapon so I'm shooting 115 and 124 grain. Would the guide rod be a good mod? What # spring should I go with? Lastly, where should I purchase? Thanks in advanced guys.

I have a question about the lack of DGR for 4' 45 acp. The problem is lack of springs right? Lasermax guide rod replacement lasers uses a spring for their product. What spring are they using and would that help? A tungsten rod would also be nice. Is that ever going to be a possibility?

Thanks

Once the striker is set, it is easier to push the gun out of battery because of the loss of tension. Once the striker is down, the slide is tight again. The lighter the spring, the easier to move out of baterry.

A tungsten rod would be possible given the right springs. I am not sure what Lasermax is using for springs, it seems no one else knows either, or else there would be a following of sorts. What we have is maybe a VHS vs Betamax standoff, where a good design fails when the knowledge is kept so tight that the market can not appreciate it enough to demand it. If Lasermax has a good spring, they could sell it apart from their rod and profit.
Or so I think!

Don. I was the one emailing you earlier trying to find out more information and a place to purchase the guide rod from ... I tried to buy from Gunner's Supply, the only place I could find that had it in stock with the spring, but when I tried to purchase it through PayPal, it said that the recipient could not accept payment. Would you happen to know anything? Are they still selling your stuff? Closed up shop?

That's weird. I spoke with the guy today on the phone and he told me that he could send me it, I just had to send him a check. The guy said that their PayPal account was revoked because PayPal does not allow firearm sales, even though he only sells parts and accessories, and apparently someone reported him to PayPal ..

That I believe. Mike should have some on hand, but quite a while ago he seemed to be hard to get a hold of for some, so I figured he was not active. I had not checked his site for some time now. Maybe I should.
Thanks!
