oh boy. When I see pics of DGR's I get worried, I think my bushing is in backwards, But this is the only way I can get it in without a struggle, and with it sitting evenly... worries me, because I have shot about 150 with this set up, works great, feels great. is it wrong?
![]() not the best pic, but as you can see the rod sits pretty much flush against the slide, however the bushing is inset a bit. Doesnt come all the way out to also sit flush with slide. ![]() see the bushing? thats exactly how I drop it into the slide, the flat side its laying on is what faces out towards the rod. IS this right, wrong? |

The smaller diameter sticks thru the slide from the inside and should be just about flush within about 0.005" from the front of the slide, so as you describe the wider side is pointed back towards the spring. (edited to add...) maybe I read it wrong. Small diameter end goes in first, to stick thru the hole in the slide. With no spring in the rod use the rod to work the bushing down thru the slide front. That small diameter should fill the hole in the slide. It is tight on purpose, so that it does not fall out like the washer would. It should have almost a zero clearance fit, to about 0.001" clearance on most of the slides.
One other member just today described a similar non-flush on the front of the bushing. When I moved from flat washers to bushings, I had about 4 owners that needed a smaller diameter washer than my norm (out of maybe 800 rods), so I made the bushings smaller so it would not be a problem. It still may be a problem on the occasional slide as I can not control what the factory produces, but I can take care of it you do not have the tools. I wedge it over a piece of plastic on my lathe and take some sandpaper to it, just messing around now a pencil is a little small but can be shimmed with strips of paper towel in a drill, also a .45 semi wad cutter if you can chuck it will hold the bushing so that you can take it down. You can just turn it by hand, the outer diameter does not need to be very round as it indexes on the snout that is sticking thru the bushing. There may be other innovative ways to turn it down, otherwise I can take a stab at a smaller diameter and send one out. Last edited by Don : 03-13-2007 at 09:42 PM. |

Thanks for the info Don. Ill mess around with it today when I get home. So the flat wider side points towards the spring? just want to be sure. Sounds like I had it backwards. Didnt malfunction at all, worked great actually, thought I had it right until I saw others post pics. Thanks again.

having a heck of a time getting it to fit correctly that way. It wont go all the way through the slide making it flush with the rod/slide. It sits crooked, maybe a 1/16" inside the slide.... have you ever heard of this? possible, or am I an idiot?

If that works, and it does not seat from the rear side then the larger diameter is too large, and is catching on something inside the hood of the slide. If that is the case, and you can work the OD down, go for it! Don't worry about roundness, as it is centered by the smaller diameter and the big OD is not critical. If you don't have the tools, let me know and I will turn down the OD on one and send it your way. But check the fit to the hole in the slide first (the putting it in from the front step) to convince the both of us that the dimensions are fine there. |

ok, I tried placing it through the front of the slide to check the fit. I wasnt able to get it in. A tad bit too big. Unfortunaltely I dont have the tools to modify this. If there is anyway you can get one out to me that will fit, I will gladly send this one back to you, and any $ you require. Im very happy with the rod itself, and want to keep it. Let me know when you get a chance, PM me anytime.. thanks again for the info |
