When I look for one of Don's Guide Rods for my 45ACP (service 4"), all I see are rods for the tacticals and xd9/40/357sig. Am I missing something ?

Not missing it yet, I have a couple more "final dimension" prototypes that will go out and then I think I am ready. Very soon (with a bronze bushing for a while -which is a very good bronze for this purpose).

Can anyone recommend a spring weight for a .40 Tactical with a Firedragon PORTED 9mm conversion barrel? The factory .40 spring is way too strong, and I get alot of stovepipes- but want a spring that will still keep the slide closed properly. I really want a SS DGR to match the Firedragon barrel and eventually a NHO magwell for ultimate "Tac-T-Cool"!

Might take a little bit of playing. 16# may be ok but it may not keep the slide closed properly. Going much lighter will usually cause problems not necessarily first day out but as spring weakens. I would try 16 and if it cycles but doesn't keep it in battery, there is a 17# also.

Changing springs for combos like that is a bit of trial and error. 16 is a good place to start and go up or down from there.

got my new bushing and spring today, bushing looks great and can't wait to try out the 18#. i had gone up to the 22# but i have a ported .40 and was just too much. i'm hoping the stock weight will work well.

Am I missing something?

"The reason most people can reacquire their sight picture faster with a lighter spring is because of the force at which the slide returns to battery. Heavier springs return hard, so the muzzle has a tendency to dip. So your gun jumps with the initial recoil and then dips with the slide return."

Taking the above statement into account. If the factory spring for the XD-9 is 18# and Don recommends a 22# spring for 9mm I must be missing something here. Wouldn't a 14-16# sprinf work better?

1st DGR

Not only am I a new XD owner, but I also just ordered my first DGR. I opted to go after the #20 instead of the #22 since it seemed like some folks were having trouble with the #22 in their XD Service (.40 S&W). I know I shouldn't allow that to pursuade me, but I'm just trying to play it safe. If you have any tips/pointers on installation, I'd appreciate it if you'd drop me a line.
