(updated) Recomendations for a high quality EDC/Duty fixed blade knife?

This is a discussion on (updated) Recomendations for a high quality EDC/Duty fixed blade knife? within the Cold Steel forums, part of the Armory Talk category; I'm looking for something fixed blade around the 3.5-4.5" blade length under 200.00 that would make a dependable EDC and duty knife. Any suggestions?...

Chris Reeve, ZT, Spartan - three that come to the top of my head as having offerings in that price range.

I dunno.... a used Strider? People tend to really discount "user" Striders.

ESEE 3MIL. Affordable, great sheath system for different carry options. Unbeatable warranty. You can get them in different blade configurations. And they have a glass breaker pommel.

These were designed for military and LEO and used to only be available for them. NTAO member tested and recommended.

ESEE Knives-3 Series - ESEE Knives

The ESEE-3MIL was previously available to law enforcement and military only. During that time it became the official knife of numerous law enforcement groups and special teams. It is now available to the general public through our dealer / distributor network.

Specs:
Blade Steel: 1095 Carbon Steel
Heat Treat: 56-58 RC.
Handle Material: Canvas Micarta
Handle Screws: Stainless Steel (Black Oxide)
Glass Breaker Pommel (Sharpened)
Thumb Grippers On Spine
Blade Finish: Textured Black Powder Coat
Maximum Blade Thickness: .125”
Grind: Full Flat. O.A Length: 8.31"
Cutting Edge length: 3.38"
O.A. Blade Length: 3.88"
Weight: 5.2 ounces (Knife Only)
Weight: 9.3 ounces (Knife w/ Sheath and MOLLE Back)
Serial Number On Pommel
Standard Equipment: Foliage Green sheath, MOLLE Back, MOLLE Locks, Boot Clip, Paracord Lanyard and Cord Lock.
(Photo, L-R): ESEE-3MIL-P

Available Knife Models:
ESEE-3MIL-P
ESEE-3MIL-S
Sharpened Back Edge Models Available
Note: All ESEE-3MIL Knives are equipped as follows:
ESEE-3MIL-P and ESEE-3MIL-S knives include the following: Foliage Green sheath, MOLLE Back and MOLLE Locks, Boot Clip, Paracord Lanyard and Cord Lock. The RC-3MIL is not offered in different handle or blade colors at this time.
Note: Our knives are made from high carbon 1095 steel. And while 1095 is a top choice for professional cutlery designed for hard use, it will rust and stain if not properly cared for - especially on the cutting edge and around the laser engraving. It is the user's responsibility to keep the blades properly lubricated and cleaned. We suggest using a dry film rust inhibitor such as TUF-GLIDE or TUF-CLOTH.

I really like the ESEE mil-p except for the coating. I realize it helps keep a carbon steel blade from rusting but I usually reprofile the geometry of my blades to get the knife to sharpen like I want. The coating looks bad when you do that. If they sold them sans-coating I'd be all over it.

The perfect blade IMO would be a smaller version of the Spyderco Temerance 2, maybe 1-1.5" shorter in the blade and handle. I love the grind, blade shape and micarta scales. Anyone know something that would fist this description?

What do you mean the coating looks bad after you re-profile? I put a 17 degree edge on mine the first night, blade looks the exact same.
