Tomahawk or hatchet?

I'm looking to pick up, for lack of a better term, a small axe.

I have narrowed it down to these 2 based on outstanding quality for a low price.

Amazon.com: SOG Specialty Knives & Tools F01T Tactical Tomahawk, Black: Home Improvement Amazon.com: SOG Specialty Knives & Tools F01T Tactical Tomahawk, Black: Home Improvement

Amazon.com: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet: Home Improvement Amazon.com: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet: Home Improvement

Yes I know I can get the ultimate for $300+ but I'm going budget on this given how often I'll use it (About 4 times a year)

I used my buddy's SOG last weekend on a car camping trip and it did surprisingly well hacking up thich branches for firewood and I like that it comes with a soft sheath. Any one use the Fiskar?

Check out Gransfors-Bruks for some really fine forged Swedish axes and hatchets. Since they didn't add "tactical" to the product description the prices aren't super inflated... hatchet is just over $100 and small axe is only $20 more.

A slightly less expensive Swedish option is Wetterling:

Despite the lower cost of the two you listed, I'd bet that they are both made in China for a couple of dollars each and have a much higher profit percentage for their respective manufacturers. If cost is the primary concern I'd go with this $8 hatchet from Harbor Freight:

If size and weight is a huge issue check out the larger folding saws at the home improvement stores.

I love my Fiskars 23.5" (same as Gerber). It only cost me $30 and it came with a carry handle that can mount to the wall, and a sharpener that works well. They don't look durable, but they are. I'm known for breaking axe handles, broomsticks, and shovels for some reason, and I haven't broke my Fiskars yet.
