Decision: ESEE 3 or Izula II

Help me out guys.
I am thinking of getting a fixed blade to carry. It will be used daily at work for general utility. Cutting open boxes, plastic wrap on palletized material, misc. rope and twine, zip ties, etc.

My preferred method of carry would be in a belt sheath. I will try to keep it covered under a shirt as much as possible, but it wouldnt be a big deal for it to be seen.

I have always had folding knives and cliped them on my pocket. Being a lefty, most of them are easier to close with the right hand, or both hands. And most have the pocket clip on the opposite side that I need it on. I would really like to try out a fixed blade just to simplify things.

My concern is that if I get the Izula I will wish I had went with the larger ESEE3, and vice versa. I know the Izula would pose no problems as to carrying it around all day. I just think I might want a little more blade than it offers.

Any of you guys carry a 3 series daily in a non LEO/Military setting?

I rotate between my Izula and my HEST. Which is similar to the 3 size but thicker blade.

What's great about the Izula is you can by the clip plate for the sheath and make it right or left carry.

I also have the ESEE 4.

For ease of carry and concealment the Izula wins handily. And it can handle just about anything.

The problem you'll have with the 3 is concealing it belt carry because there is no clip plate option. You'd have to lash it to your belt using the paracord it comes with.

Unless you order kydex clips from Tucker Gunleather like I did. And and attach them with the molle screws that are supplied with the knife.

Like this and carry it IWB. Also if you get the 3 I would recommend you just go ahead and get the 3 MIL.

Edit: I was wrong the 3 does have a clip plate option. I forgot about that.

I was wondering how the 3 would do IWB. It will be used frequently enough that I would most likely go OWB. Either outside completely or between the belt and the pants.
I just can't make up my mind, and I can't afford both.

I carry my Izula between the belt and pants with the clip plate on.

I imagine the 3 would work just as well.

I honestly think you need to start with the Izula II. It's great knife that won't break the bank. Then add to your ESEE collection from there.

Because trust me you will want another one or 2 or 3 and so on and so forth!

It is the plastic sheath, correct? (The Izula II)
Is that sheath worthwhile? I know there is a leather one out there for the Izula I that would probably work. Any other options (other than making my own) or is the one it comes with of good quality?

This is good timing for this conversation. I am myself trying to decide or I guess was trying to decide between the same 2 knives. Have been searching to the end of the internet for the past few weeks. I am going to go with the Izula II kit. I like the idea of having the Micarta handle (not into paracord) and the extra 1/2" in length will fit the hand better. Not sure how the sheath clip will perform YMMV, but it is cheaper to buy the whole kit then just the knife and add the clip later due to the rest of the extras. I am looking at kifeworks.com for the cheapest price. Unless someone else has a better bead on a cheaper price. Going to pull the trigger tomorrow after I sell a set of tires.

Edit: Actually the cheapest price that I have found for the kit is from the-knife-connection at $79.95 w/ free shipping.

I think I am leaning in the same direction, just trying to figure out what color. I also like that it comes with the micarta and the added length.
Funny thing is, I was just doing the math on the calculator on buying just the knife and sheath and adding the clip, but it costs the same to just get the kit that comes with the paracord and stuff.
This is where I was looking.

The Knife Connection.

That seems to be the best place I think. Someone mentioned that site in a post here in the cold steel forum a while back.
They also mentioned buying from a place called "knivesshipfree".

Already checked it out they don't seem to have the Izula II just the Izula and the handle is $16.95 + knife/kit at $63.60. Obviously free shipping but not what I want. Good stuff on the site tho.
