how to be a better shooter

Hello ALL, I am new to this site. I recently just bought a xd 9mm subcompact. I took it to the range today and put 100 rounds through it. I must say that I was a little frustrated in myself. I was all over the target and could not get a good group. I was wondering if anyone had any pointers as far as feet postion, hand grips ect. I put the front sight in between the two back ones and seems to never go where I want it to. Any how thanks in advance.

Trigger control goes along way! use the tip of your finger and slowly press the trigger, when the gun goes off it should almost be a surprise to you. And focus on your front sight!

Take a class or find someone who is a good shooter to help.

Pointers.
Start a 7 yards keep shooting at this distance until you can group 3 rounds in under 3".
Shoot slow take your time to aim, pull the trigger slowly to where you are surprised when the gun goes off. Shoot a few rounds, 3 or 4 then check your groups think about what you just didn't and how you can improve then shoot another 3 or 4 rounds. Many times I see newbies at the range burning through a mag in a few seconds load another and repeat. You aren't getting anything out of this other than reinforcing bad habits.

Pull the trigger back straight don't slap it sideways. Bus some snap caps and have a fellow shooter load your mags with snap caps intermixed somewhere in the middle of the mag. When you sit a snap cap you'll see what you're doing wrong.

Push the fingers of your shooting hand into the fingers of your holding hand. Nice and steady.

I have a 40 and a 9mm XDsc and they are both accurate but sensitive to grip and finger placement on the trigger. Practice with it! If I shoot then often they can be impressive accuracy wise. Usually I grab a 22 pistol or a 38 revolver for some reason. I have been shooting all my life, and shoot at least once a week and dry fire twice a week . I seem to dry fire perfect!!!I am 59 and still suck shooting and have been to classes!!!
