I am fortunate to say that in over 36 years of handling guns and reloading, I have never had a close call that put me or another human in danger. I had an accidental discharge of my Remington 700 back in the early 80's due to the safety issue, but I was alone and the gun was pointed at the ground. Had the safety replaced when they put out the recall.

My buddy had an incident with his sks apparently. I wasn't there... But the story goes his semi auto perfectly legal sks decided to go full auto. Learned later that the firing pin was stuck forward which continued to trip the firearm?

Important reason why you always keep the barrel down range.

ND of a 20 ga 3 inch mag shotgun slug into my bedroom floor. Was 16 at the time and was on the phone while cycling my gun after the days hunt...didnt realize that i hadnt removed all the shells when blammo! I shot a hole straight into the crawlspace missing the water main by an inch...luckily for me no one was home then except my brother who I BS'd and blamed the gun for the embarassment..Had to cover that hole in the floor up so I went into the closet..cut out a circle of carpet and stuffed the hole with papertowls and topped it off with the carpet...parents didnt ever find it until I moved out 2 yrs later...

Ive only had a close call once, and Ive had a few ND's around me.

Mine: A bunch of people were shooting .22's off the back porch at my parents land like we always do. I had bees sitting back in my chair with my feet leaned up against the railing around the back porch. When it was my turn to shoot, someone handed me the rifle, and I picked the gun to my shoulder to aim. I started to squeeze the trigger then stopped, something didnt feel right. When I looked down range i realized that my foot was right in front of the barrel end (the scope on the rifle didnt let me see my own foot)
I learned a lesson about being to comfortable around guns that day.

My Friends: A friend was going hunting and cocked his rifle (safety "on" or so he thought), slung it over his shoulder and started to climb up the ladder to his stand. On the way up a branch caught the trigger and discharged a 30.06 round, with the muzzle about 4 inches from his ear. that caused massive hearing problems for a long time. Could have been worse!
