I am no expert by any means but to attempt to answer your question about the brush, yes I believe you can us the brush for both barrels. I have a .357 Magnum, .380 ACP, 9mm (XDm) and a .40 cal (XD) and I use the same brush for all of them. As long as it fits and is not super tight or too loose you should be fine. Just be sure to never reverse directions with a brush unless it is completely outside of the barrel.

Oh and someone mentioned the "9mm Markov" I saw one of those for the first time a few weeks ago when I was at the range. A fellow had one and let me give it a whirl. I believe it was a Russian handgun? He was trying to describe the differences between the standard 9mm and the Markov. You learn something new every day

9mm Makarov (pr: ma-KAR-ov, often mispronounced MAK-a-rov)

It's a Russian round, originally produced to fire in the Makarov pistol. Several other former Warsaw Pact pistols are chambered in it (Polish P64 & Wanad, Czech CZ83, Hungarian Pa-63, and others).

It's 9x18, putting it's case length right between 9x19 parabellum and .380 (9x17). However, 9x18 is a slightly larger diameter round, .365 if memory serves. It is not, repeat NOT acceptible to fire the 9x18 mak in a 9mmP or .380 pistol.

Thanks for mentioning that. It is also "To-KAR-ev". I have spent some time in Russia on several occasions so the incorrect pronunciation of Russian words grates on my ears.

First, there are no bad questions.
Second, I'm not an expert, but I can relate some generalities.
The 9mm and the .38 are similar---using the same brush should be fine.
Usually, the 9mm (the shorter of the two) is used in semiautomatic pistols, where the .38 is usually used in revolvers. The .38 has a rimmed case which is the expanded base (foot) of the cartridge. If one were to stand a rimmed case on its end, it would have less tendency to tip over. The 9mm is rimless (its base is sort of "tucked in"). The 9mm has European roots, the .38 American.
There are many true experts on this forum. I hope I have not over simplified for you.

Don't sweat it too much with Cannibul, Amber. He tends to have the people skills of a pissed off Yetti with a bad hang over sometimes.

No offense Cannibul.

Most of us come here because of the human interaction. And you can learn a lot from this site. But you have to be willing to let some responses roll off. As well as take some information with a grain of salt until you verify it's accurate.

And that's on one of his good days...

(also no offense, Cannibul)

Yea. I just went back and edited my grammar just in case.

I'll add my voice to the chorus that is telling Amber not to worry about the snide comments of a single poster. I've also got to say, guys--Amber seems pretty capable of standing up for herself. Welcome, Amber. We need more voices like yours.

A common n00b mistake is to think that ".38" and ".380" are the same. They're not! They both use a bullet that's the same diameter as a 9mm's bullet, but they diverge wildly from there.

If you read these, you'll understand more about ammunition numbering and how some of it is based on CASE size and some of it is based on BULLET size, and how the legacy case size influences the names of later rounds.
