At first I pointed out that I had never seen him not wearing a sport coat. Then last weekend, we met them for a casual dinner. No jacket, but he was wearing a loose polo shirt untucked. See, I said to Mrs 5207.

I don't know the guy very well, just see him at parties and such a couple of times a year. What's the polite way to ask? Or should I just stifle my curiosity?
Stifle your curiosity. It's none of your business. Think of the worst possible outcome to your curiosity -- it could come true. You don't know this guy well enough to ask.

Some people don't like to talk about carrying. Is he one of them? Don't know? Don't ask.

"So what do you think of those new Kydex IWBs?" If you get a blank look, you know he probably doesn't carry, and you can pass the question off as some sort of techie thing.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Do you want people coming up to you in public and asking about your guns and whether you are carrying a weapon that you have to keep concealed by law???

Common sense tells you that this is not a great idea. No good can come of it. Mind your own business.

Tell him your thinking about buying a gun & you are curious if he is carrying.

Or just simplify it, by walking up to him & telling him you're buy curious.

Mabey he is fat and has a poor self image and he thinks the jacket and the untucked shirt make him look thinner.

But who am I to stop one man from wanting to see another man's "package"?

Perhaps your wife thought you meant something else when you told her this.
Maybe she didn't realize you were referring to a firearm.

An odd thing happened to me the other day. I was at the bank when a casual friend stepped up to the teller next to me and we both said hi. Then she asked "Do you have a gun?" At first, I got this kind of shocked look on my face and figured I must be printing. So I just said "yes, why?" She then went on to say " Oh my back hurts so bad I wish someone would just shoot me" I thought for a minute and almost asked if she'd mind if we went outside first, but refrained. Just shook my head. The teller at my window looked totally shocked, but it wasn't at me as much as it was for the friend. She thought she was a total nut case. I had to agree.

Personally, depends on the situation. If you can't ask the guy what he does in the bedroom, then don't ask what's tucked in his pants either.
