Micheal p. anthony Legal issues relating to the use of deadly force. hes a Az laywer that has all the gun laws you need to know for Az nicely compacted in a 75 page book. it talks about the differences between state parks, national parks and national forests. It does say that SOME state parks are posted no weapons and to look out for the signs. If u didnt see one clearly posted then its not your fault. just like walking into a store thats not posting but they ask you to leave if uve been made.
http://www.azdps.gov/ccw/procedures/CcwclassDPS2006.pdf is the link for the PDF file for those of you who live in Az.
Edit to add. Page 68 is where it talks about state parks.

yeah if guns are not allowed except with ccw. it typically has to be concealed or you have to abide by open carry restrictions same as everyone else. I live in oregon which is an open carry state.. However individual cities and counties are allowed to make thier own rules for having a "loaded firearm" some areas such as Portland, Oregon City, and Salem do not even allow loaded magazines. Having a CHL supercedes local restrictions in oregon so I can carry loaded anywhere in the state. But it has to be concealed for this to apply.

other forum
There was a post in another forum stating that a new law says that national parks have to go by the same carry laws as the state they are in. I have no knowledge about this only what I read.

Learn your state laws. We've had problems in MI where some parks and other pseudo govt entities have "posted" no guns, but they are not permitted by state law to do that. Usually a phone call or two fixes the problem

+1,000 I understand the arguments that are for and against OC, but I am personally sick and tired of seeing people get hassled for exercising their rights when it is PERFECTLY LEGAL to OC. Get educated on the laws by reading them, and you won't have to risk getting misinformation from someone, even if that someone is wearing a badge. It's a shame that someone that wears the badge and should be enforcing the laws doesn't even know them in the first place. If they are not careful, peace officers can get complacent with functioning under the umbrella of "assumed authority" over an uneducated public. This can lead to encounters like the OP's. It's these experiences that have the potential to bring down the credibility of good LEOs everywhere.

I quess you better go back to Fed Cop School buckeroo. That changed for National Parks during the last days of Bush Jr,'s last term and was confirmed in Congress. However it does apply that you can not carry in Federal buildings in said parks. As a retired Fed I follow this topic pretty close as I really object to all gun free zones, as they promote bad behavior. Both by uneducated LEO's. And ignorant cops and criminals. I also do not mean all LEO's as some agree with me.
