Here are the results...

Well I read my handbook last night and no policy even remotely mentions firearms.

First thing this morning I approached my boss for a discussion on the topic in her office. I explained my reasoning behind carrying, showed her my CCW certificate (since i don't have my permit yet), brought the Florida conceal statutes book in for her to read, discussed with her about what I know about guns, described to her my gun and how it has specific safety mechanisms to prevent accidental discharges, offered to show her the gun when I do carry so I can explain to her how it operates and the grip and trigger safety, and discussed with her some things about what my instructor said to me in the CCW class, and reassured her that I would be continuing my knowledge and taking NRA courses to be fully competent with the hand gun if the time came to use it.

She was very welcoming to the idea of me carrying, and she will not prohibit me in any manner from exercising the 2nd amendment. She said she really respects me for coming to her and discussing this with her. She said if i ever did feel threatened at work she would hope that I would come to her and let her know. She also said she has never been approached for something like this before so now that she knows about it. She's going to do her own research as an employer to see if there is anything she has to do for coworkers that seek to carry, and gain more knowledge on the subject to better support me. As well as look into the building policies to see if there is anything about weapons in our office lease contract. She said she plans to keep it a secret and will not let anyone else know about it.

Very productive and good discussion in my eyes, and if anyone ever has doubts as I did on whether you should sit down and discuss it with your boss. I think this is a good example of how it can be handle.

Nice outcome, and desired results from your meeting.

Am thinking that you feel more comfortable now getting out of that CC "closet", but for me and my opinion, you went well and far beyond the call of duty.

My employer is not posted, but has a no-weapons policy for employees. This was written before Wisconsin had CCW permits. I talked with HR and now have a written exception signed by HR and a board member that allows me to carry at work. Interestingly, the reason it was allowed was that they figured it was safer for me to have it than to leave it in my car.

Company policy prohibits weapons on premise.

Wisconsin law says it can be in the car in the parking lot, so that's where it stays.

Wisconsin law also says an employer is absolved of liability if they allow a person to carry on their property.

So here's to getting non-fatally shot/stabbed/beaten. cheers!

Just read out manual 2 times and didn't see a single mention of firearms in any way.

I'll probably keep my mouth shut so it stays that way

My company does not allow firearms or weapons on their property. Here's my question my vehicle is considered my castle or domicile! Can I leave it locked up in me car? Does their property extend to anything in my vehicle?

I also work in a sawmill. Its company policy here NO weapons! Not even a small pocket knife on the premises. (sucks)

My company's policy is no carry. Will I carry concealed? Well, that's all I'm gonna say!
