Unhappy I need a spanking!

Now that I have your attention, I choose to share this story with my XDTalk family. I have come a long way in life by looking at the mistakes that others have made, and not repeating them. I share this with the point being that no matter how long you have being carrying, that a moment of innocent negligence could turn out catastrophic. Rest assure, this mistake will never be made by me again.

I currently carry a G26 Gen4 with the TFO's. With all the peripherals added, have over $700 in this carry pistol. I carry with a DeSantis Nemesis sticky holster at 5:30. When I ride in my vehicle, it is either in the console or mashed between the seats in the holster.

Last Sun. afternoon the wife and I had a routine time on the town shopping. On the way home back to the boondocks where we live, we stopped for a Pizza Hut pick up. We live in a very rural part of the county with the nearest neighbor at 1/2 mile, with a 220 ft. driveway leading up to the house. Since we were in my truck her truck was parked closest to the house entry door. As we are unloading my truck with our days purchases, I am carrying a handful of plastics bags in my left hand with my pistol holstered in my right. As we are unlocking the exterior door, she asked me if I was bringing the pizza in? Since my hands were already full, I laid my pistol on the hood of her truck, to walk back to mine. She unlocked the door, in we went.

Lunch was great! I needed a nap. Shortly after finishing lunch, she tells me that she is heading to the Post Office, and off she went in her truck. I never thought about my pistol again until around 4am the next morning after I got up. It was not where it is suppose to be! It is not in the kitchen, or anywhere else in the house!! At that point, my heart sinks, just knowing what has happened. My Glock pistol has been lost out on the rual county road somewhere!! I am furious, and worried at the same time. My first thoughts are, who is more stupid? Me for leaving it there, or my wife driving off with it on the hood and not seeing it? I give her the benefit of doubt since its a black pistol, in a black holster, on a black truck hood.

My very next call is to my local county Sheriff. They arrive in like 15 mins. of my call, and I explain to them what has happened. We both agreed that I should wait until the sun comes up, walk the road and bar ditch of the route she took, and let them know if I find it.

15 mins. after he departs, he calls me back and says, Mr. Freeman, there are still some very good people left in the world. Someone recovered it and turned it over to us earlier yesterday! I could only LEAP for JOY! He said that all I had to do was report to the Sheriff office when it opened later in the morning with my guns details and recover it.

At 8am I was there with bells on, and meet with the investigator. When we met, he asked me if I found something, I said it's what I lost. "I am the grossly negligent owner of the Glock pistol your Dept. recovered." They had it boxed up, tagged and bagged. I signed all the affidavits, and was out. No ass kicking (as I expected) reprimands, or lectures.

The pistol had bounced down the granite chipseal road and became upholstered. There are some sharp burrs on the polymer, a very light scratch down the slide (can only be seen when holding at the right angle) and did not touch the sites.

How lucky can someone's stars get?? Even though my constant companion go bummed up, no one kept it, committed a crime with it, nor a juvenile got a hold of it. I got lucky! Learn from my mistake.

Let the spankings begin........

There are some good ppl out there. I had left my wallet on my trunk while I was gassing up my car in a hurry. While I drove off a guy at the station seen it, and followed me when it fell on the road. He pulled over, picked it up, and chased me down. He pulled up next to me honking, waving my wallet, and yelling. It was a younger fellow, probably about 19. I tried to give him a couple of twenties for the good deed, but he wouldn't take it.

Good to hear you got it back.
That's why I never remove my gun until I'm home and done for the day. Find a comfortable location to carry and a comfortable holster and you won't have to remove it every you get in you vehicle. We live out in the middle of nowhere Tx the nearest mall is almost 2 hours away the nearest walmart a bit over an hour away so I've learned to carry it holstered and on me while in the car for extended periods of time.

Very glad that it didn't end up in the hands of someone inexperienced and unlucky enough to kill themselves or someone else.

Glad you were able to recover it.

Why is it not on your person when driving?

More comfort on long drives, and much better accessibility. This idea is being revisited and evaluated.

You need a more comfortable holster. I go everywhere with my G17 holstered, and don't feel the need to remove it every time I sit down.

The CBST isn't "it" for me. The N82 series is at the top of the class now for the consideration.

Or carry 2 pistols in the vehicle. One on the hip, another in the console or between the seats. This eliminates the hassle of presentation while IWB covered, and buckled up.
