quesstion about ccw training

i consider myself to be an average guy. i am new to this site but have been an avid shooter for some thirty years. I have my ccw in mo. a person can take training get there ccw and then thats it there out there on thier own
my question is this should there be more elective traing that one can take part in such as a ride along with local law to get that rael world experince. a guy can shoot paper all day long and be an excellent shot but you can not practice adrenaline or that fact that after that bg has been shot and is bleeding what then i would bet that most people are not prepared for the emotoins that are coming after that taking a persons life is a serious matter weather justifide or not youwill live with that for the rest of your life that last look on that bg face is one you will never forget.. what do you all think

I suggest you look into some tactical training, which gets you to move around and shoot, rather than stand there and shoot at paper.

Lots of good info there.

Get into IDPA shooting. It's a competitive sport that revolves around real-world and self defense scenarios.

I agree!!

IDPA is a competition BUT you can use it as practice. I know a lot of people that do use it as practice because you can't engage multiple targets, moving targets, rapid fire at most ranges around here.

Check out my videos if you want to see what IDPA looks like. I use multiple cameras to get multiple angles so you can see what its like to shoot IDPA.

^^^ All good advice. I'm fortunate to have a couple buddies who are instructors. One owns a gun shop with an outdoor range so, I get free tactical training plus I get to shoot lots of sweet guns that I can't currently afford. When we shoot we set up different scenarios and compete against each other. Kinda like IDPA only with lots of heckling. The more training you can get the better off you are. Practice drawing, shooting on the move, clearing malfunctions, fast reloads etc. I'm going to buy a blowback semi auto airsoft pistol soon. High quality ones are only $100-$150. With them you can get lots of practice CHEAP.

My suggestion too .... if you really want to run and gun, try USPSA as well

Since most LEO rarely pull their guns, fewer actually shoot them, a ride along is just an interesting few hours. No, get some pratical training from a reputable establishment. Then get into something like IDPA to keep your practice level up. Handgun skills are fungible, you lose what you do not keep current. IDPA beats flat range practice any day.
My issue w/ run & gun USPSA, no one uses cover & you use a lot of none street gear & few carry more than two mags on the street. Mag dumping is not good practice & many USPSA guys shoot that way. DO that in a gunfight & you WILL run out of ammo before your problem gets solved.

You don't become a better shooter unless you can shoot more & you don't shoot more unlesss you can do it for less.

I suggest you look into a new keyboard: one that has periods, commas, and a shift key.

In all seriousness, some intensive training would not only be good experience, I'm guessing it would a lot of fun as well. I want to do Thunder Ranch one of these days, but the price and getting away from work make it difficult. I'm hoping I can make it work next summer.

I took a one day thing that a local range put on with some basic low light, shooting from cover, and shooting while moving training. It was deffinately worth my time, but honestly you can't learn as much as you would like in a day. What I came out of it with is a basic idea of how to make my twice a month shooting sessions more productive.

So, even if you can't afford a 3-4 class, go to whatever you can afford and get to, it will help. My only other recomendation is to make sure your handgun fundamentals are down first. There were several individuals in the class I took that did not have their fundamentals down and almost certainly took virtually nothing away from the class.

Good luck, have fun, and be safe.

Got my new keyboard today, hopefully this is better.

Thanks for all of the shooting advice. I will definately check into some more training but what I was really asking about was the emotional roller coaster that comes with taking someone's life and how to handle it. I guess I was hoping that someone that has been through this situation may comment to help anyone else through this. Just remember...sometimes a person may ask a question because they are curious but also others may be wondering as well but not willing to ask. Thanks for the info.
