Have you heard of the bump and rob?

Just trying to let people become aware of a new trend thats going on. My father in law told me that he was reading some shooting magazine and the new trend of theft is the bump and rob. It is when a person rear ends your car and you proceed thinking it was just an accident. As soon as you bend over to check the damage of your car your eyes have become turned away from the person and they crack you on the head or pull a gun/knife on you. So new trend guys just become aware and never take your eyes off the person and try to proceed to a well lit area and wait for the cops.

Common tactic

Bump and anything. They test your response. Is it uncertain, disoriented, confused, naive, etc. Often in public spaces.

It's called carjacking. It's been happening for awhile now.
If you proceed to a well lit area, wouldn't that be leaving the scene of an accident?
If someone bumped you with the intention of carjacking you, they probably are using an already stolen vehicle to do it and are more likely to just leave,or shoot you and take your vehicle. My advice would be to take a minute to gather yourself, be aware and take your keys with you and lock the doors when you get out to check the damage.

Do you guys think carrying outside the waistband while driving would remedy this? In the event of an accident, you get out of your vehicle and your gun is visible on your person but in a non-threatening manner, it could immediately deter any thug from moving forward with the plan. This would likely only be advisable in states with open carry laws.

They had this scenario on Best Defense some time ago, and it was the first time I actually heard it called this. I thought it was just the known tactic of a lot of carjackings, and just called a carjacking.
