I have changed my all of my pants to Tru-Spec 24-7 tactical pants:
TRUSPEC.COM
They are extremely comfortable and have cargo pockets that have magazine partitions in them that work awesome at holding a full sized 13 round magazine for my XDm 45 compact. The multiple pockets help me to stay organized and allow me to keep thing from clanging together. I should be receiving a pair of the 24-7 shorts any day now and the pocket layout is identical to the pants.
So to answer your question, if I have my gun I also have my full sized spare mag with me. If I head into the wilderness I carry two spare mags with me, one filled with my normal self defense rounds and one filled with FMJ's. If I ever have to tangle with a bear the FMJ's might help to achieve deeper penetration. I hope I never have to find out!
**Edit**
I guess my point is, if you have the right equipment you have the ability to carry the gear you want to carry without it being a burden. For me these pant fit the bill because I can't carry at work but due to the elastic waist in these paints that still fit me and look good whether I'm carrying my or not.

Just wearing jeans or dockers type shorts I carry one spare unless I'm going to Memphis, then I carry two in the same pocket. Keys & wallet are in the other pocket, no big deal.

I usually don't, but I probably should.
Just haven't found a way that works for me unless I have my SmartCarry on, even then it's not in the best location for a quick reload.

probably should all the time, but....
If carrying my Kahr, then yes, one additional mag - left cargo pants thigh pocket or left pants pocket depending on clothing.
If carrying Glock, don't usually carry a spare on me.

Yep. Always carry one spare, sometimes two.
Not do much for the ammo, more for the mag.

Never have, probably never will in the warmer months, I just don't wear clothes that are conducive to carrying much during the warmer months. I have considered it for the cooler months when at least I might have jeans and a jacket on.

I carry a spare mag OWB on my weak hand side, 1911 is IWB strong side. I also carry a Fenix LD10 flashlight on a clip in my pocket along with an ASP Key Defender OC spray. I wear T-shirts that are just slightly too big and they cover everything pretty well. My wife can only tell I'm carrying anything when she bumps in to my pistol or the magazine, and she knows I carry all the time. Often she'll ask if I'm carrying because she can't tell, the answer is always yes!

I work in view of the public and though those seem to work great, its out of the question for me. Pocket seems like my best option but dirt and lent, clicking a round into my pocket when I reach for change... maybe I'll just get use to carring my 19rd mag instead of the 13. I do like what one poster said about have a spare not for more ammo but for failures.

Look into an IWB mag pouch. It works well for me. Also think that the overwhelming majority of civilian gun fights are over with 1-2 rounds.
