Conceal carry can be a failure
I have been reading up on why some people are against conceal carry and even find it to be dangerous. Before anyone goes off on me I firmly believe in the RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. I believe its shameful that we must conceal and get licenses. What I have read however concerns how unprepared people are to actually use their guns for self defense. Being an avid shooter is one thing but how many people actually practice actual self defense tactics? Do you practice self defense? Such as quick draw and adwareness drills? I personally haven't but I think its time I started. What do you all think?

After I received my CHL, I attended Level I,II, and III Defensive Handgun classes at a local training facility and will be attending additional classes at different facilities this summer. I take my responsibility for safely handling my weapon in all possible situations very seriously.

I was trained by the U.S. Army. I have no problem using a firearm for self defense.

Thank you both for your service.
I have not had such formal training as you two but I do consider myself to be well prepared in self-defense scenarios. I often practice drawing from my holster any chance I get.

Unless you have been trained for defensive carry -- military, LEO, or certified firearms program that included real world scenarios with many hours of firing your weapon under supervision -- you are kidding yourself that you will be successful in protecting yourself and you family. Even highly trained police officers are killed in situations that were "under control." According to the statistics, the average gun fight involves, three shots, at three yards or less, in three seconds, at three in the morning.
Wyatt Earp said it best, the sure way to win a gun fight is to not show up!

I was trained by the Army too, but you are talking "apples and oranges." Not at all the same, IMO. I operate my own firearms training company and have both civilian and military clients. Last summer I actually had a young Marine with combat experience fail my course.

I just took my CCH class 3 weeks ago, and I'm taking a Defensive Handgun/Close Quarters Combat class in May as soon as my semester ends! I can't wait! In the mean time, its practicing drawing at home and some good quality range time.

Having a gun and all the training in the world may not guarantee success in an encounter. It will just give you a somewhat equal chance. A gun is usually better than a fist.
