Seen this before, but it's a good reminder. Thanks.

Let's see -- I'm legally carrying concealed, why do I care if a cop can detect it?
I can just as legally carry open. While I'm usually conscious of how well I'm concealing my full-size XD9, I'm starting to relax a little more and not give a rip if someone might notice or not.

Tuscon, I understand your thinking, and I sometimes open carry, but there is a reason we carry concealed. It gives us a tactical advantage against the bad guy. I don't care if a cop sees my gun, but if someone is gonna rob a bank Im in and sees my weapon, very well may just shoot me instead of taking a risk.

I am pretty sure this is a training aid for NYPD, not some guide for legal CCW and what not to do. This points out to the officer what he might look for or suspicious actions a suspect may be taking. For those that carry CCW, as you were. Helpful? sure. Thanks.

I know what it is and what it's intended for, but its also the same things we tend to do when carrying. I know I brace it when running, shift it sometimes, and even keep my hand close to it around other people. So knowing what the obvious signs are that you are carrying could be helpful if you truly want it to be concealed.

I just can't agree with any of that. Unless you have immediate cover, your "tactical advantage" is gone to Hell if the BG walks in with his piece drawn. You're then faced with drawing against a drawn weapon - a fool's bet.

The sight of your piece will more often deter a BG rather than bring the first shot your way. It's been proven time and time again that the BG is easily confused if the scene doesn't go down exactly the way he's imagined it. The BG does not want to shoot anyone - he knows he'd do down for Murder One, instead of armed robbery. He does NOT want an armed confrontation with a determined citizen. He wants it slick and easy. The BG doesn't have time or interest in anyone but the person who controls the money - usually the clerk behind the counter. He's not going to be inspecting everyone's waistline to see if they're armed. Just my .02.
