Thumbs up

Wow, I think this is a great write up. Especially coming from a police officer.

Yeah, it was kinda long, but seemed like really good information.

I know giving the appearance of carrying a gun has saved me twice. Once in Georgia when I was in the military, wrong part of town and two guys come from behind a building. I unzipped my jacket and slid my hand in as if reaching for a holstered gun. The guys turned around and walked off. I wasn't carrying because my pistol was in the base armory (not allowed to keep them in the barracks).

The second time was while at college. Just finished grabbing a couple of bucks from the ATM when a guy that didn't fit the profile of a student came walking towards me across the parking lot. I put my hand behind my back as if grabbing a concealed weapon. The guy noticed, turned around and walked away. I wasn't carrying (couldn't afford a CC license).

Wow, close calls both times. I have not been in and hopefully never will be, in a situation like you posted. I can tell you though I walk through parking lots day and night always expecting something though.

That was a good read. Thanks for sharing.

I have been procrastinating on getting a carry gun for long enough. I'm going to seriously start looking now. I'm the type that thinks that can never happen to me. But you never know. Gonna go hit up the range this weekend and rent their LC9, and a few others. Then while I'm there, get signed up for the CHL class. I've been talking about it for a while but i gotta get the ball rolling here.

that was a pretty informative read. ive had guys fan out on me before but i was in my car already so i just left. the sad thing is the amout of crap we hear about people being prosecuted for shooting the bg and all it does is cause us to wait that extra second before drawing which can really make all the difference. not sure how to work on that but its definitely on my mind now.

+1 Very good info especially the part about asking if the dog bites. I forwarded this over to my fiance to read and keep in mind. We obviously can't carry in Crook county or anywhere in IL, and the street robberies are getting out of control here. All our Mayor and Gov want to do is make the bad guys register their illegal weapons with a new state wide registry. What a joke!! Our German Shorthair wouldn't hurt a flea, but from now on he is the worlds most dangerous hunting dog!
