Concealing and XDm 4.5 9mm

I am looking at getting an XDm 9 mm 4.5 and get Springer Precision to do a grip chop for me. I however would like to know if anyone on the forum has experience concealing a gun this size. I currently carry a XD40SC in a IWB holster in the small of the back. I know I have to switch holsters and position and I am open to suggestions.

I carried my XDm 4.5 9mm with full size grip for a few months before I could get my 3.8 compact. If you did the chop you would be in the same size as my 3.8 compact. With concealing these guns it is the grip size that effects everything. My question for you is why not just get the 3.8 compact and not spend the money on the grip chop. You get the compact size and have the full size magazine if you want it. I think it would make more sense IMHO

I would like to get into shooting IDPA a little and I like the longer site pic, but this will also double as my carry gun. That is the main reason I was thinking of the 4.5 However is i do the small of the back carry it looks like it will be uncomfortable as it rides too low.

I do not know about the IDPA but it is always your choice. I have both and I love my 3.8 for carry and to shoot. I keep my 4.5 for my HD gun and my 3.8 for my carry although it could be used at both.

Especially during the winter I will carry my full-size XDm in a Galco King Tuk @ 3 o'clock. Very comfortable. I am 6-1; 230lbs if that helps.

I carry the 9mm 4.5 and also have no issues. I also don't have to tuck in a shirt or have any particular dress code that I must abide by. I carry an owb stronside Hume.

I carry an XDc Tactical .45ACP (5" barrel") IWB between 3:00 (little to no cant) or 3:30 to 4:00 (low to medium cant) with no issues. I tried it at 5:00 almost SOB (extreme cant) a few times and that worked fine too. Setting it between 4:00 and 5:00, however, I feel like I'm going to wear a hole in my pants (and my butt cheek) with the business end of the gun no matter how I cant it.

I can get away with the XDm .40 S&W at 3:30 to 4:00 if/when (usually it's when) my wife decides she wants to pack the .45ACP. :P

I'm 5'6"/160.--built for war--Oohrah!

(ETA: Obviously I'm not carrying these days because I'm in not in the US. Talk about feeling naked!!!)

Probably for the same reason I go with the XDc Tactical...longer sight radius.
