Florida was very easy. I took a one day class including range time. After the class, the best way to proceed is to go to one of the licensing department's district offices. Phone for an appointment- about 10 days out. Once there, they do the basic check for eligibility, fingerprints, and photos. You pay $117 for everything. They then send everything to Tallahassee for processing. I had mine back in 7 days.

Here in Iowa i found a class online and it took me 2 and a half minutes to take the test passing it with a 100. Printed the certificate out and took it to sheriff station paid there fee, took a pic, and out the door in 5 mins. 29 days later my card came in the mail.

Do it now

Even if you never use it, it is a vote for the 2nd amendment. Politicians watch those numbers.

I had no gun experience. I took a beginner's orientation hand gun class, then my CCW certification, and then applied for and received my permit. While doing this I was reviewing my gun purchase. I bought my gun, and have been studing and practising since. This took about 2 months. House and car safe, holster, belt, extra mags, ammunition chocies, bag, and pearce grip all took several more months.

The reason my gun purchase was not first is the time it takes to reveiw and choose. All were occurring simultaneously. I had a mentor that shared all his recent gun research. Big help.

Just went to the NRA national gun show and handled them all. I'm happy with my XD 9 subcompact. Quality designed and built CCW.

Only one issue. The CCW is a relatively new trend, and the gun manufacturers are pushing to stay ahead of it. The XDs 45 would be my choice today. Cie la vie.

Now I enjoy shooting, and my next purchase is a shot gun for skeet.

Delaware, process is long and a little painful. paperwork takes at least 10 days to complete then fingerprints, photos, a certified class and pay the fee to submit to judge. Wait from submittal is generally 6-8 weeks. Ended up costing me @ $500 total.

Wow!

Washington is a "shall permit" state.

I just applied for my CPL which entails

Went to Sheriffs office.
Plopped down $52.50
Filled out a 2 page form and fingerprints (about 30 min)
Takes up to 30 days to perform a full background check - backlog due to election year
When that checks out then you get your license +- 30 days - good for 5 years.

Much like Arapahoe County here in Colorado. But with an extra $100 on it here.

$52.50 to the CBI (background check)
$100 to ACSO (sheriffs office to make some money)
$100 required class certification
90 day shall-Issue

I will no longer say bad things about PA!
$20, 10 minutes, left with it in my hand.
And we have a good economy here plus the gas biz is booming.

I can't imagine hundreds of dollars, fingerprints...classes perhaps, a few week wait, maybe.
Why isn't the NRA trying to make states relax this process? They want it so anyone can buy an uzi at walmart yet to legally carry it's way way too hard in most states IMO.

NRA has a strong commitment to education and training. It is an aspect of everything they do. It makes sense and it works for the big picture. Advocating for gun ownership without it just doesn't work as well. What they are doing has been working.
