Thanks again for all the help everyone else. I wasn't scared of carrying it with one it the pipe, just curious. Ya gotta admit, to someone who never carried, it can sound wired, but then after hearing what you guys said it's more like....duh! I racked it and have had one in the pipe all the way home from cabels and I am just walking around the house no difference. If anything, I feel more secure. The only difference is the mindset needed to put it on and take it off. Thanks for the help again!

I use the search feature on the boards I visit so as not to ask a question that was asked a few hours before. Doesn't take all day or hours to do a simple search.
It can be unsettling to carry a loaded gun if you've never carried one that's why it's always a good idea to do some research on the gun your going to carry. You should be familiar with how the gun functions before carrying it.
1. What safeties does it have?
2. How to the safeties work?
3. What happens when I pull the trigger.
4. What happens if the sear releases the striker but I didn't pull the trigger.
5. What's a good holster?
6. What kind of training is available?
And so on.

Agreed. I was like that for the longest time, myself. From an early age, it was beat into my head that a gun should never be left loaded, that guns could go "bang" at any time, and that everyone knew someone who had or was the victim of an accidental discharge (yeah, I said "accident", as in the opposite of "on purpose". Just let it go this time, mmmmkay?) And one never ever EVER pointed a gun at anything besides a target or game much less <gasp> a person!
Now, this transition to CCW forces us to embrace practices that run 180 degrees counter to what our early education etched in our brains. The concept of carrying is new, keeping it loaded is new, loaded and cocked is way out there! Heck, just about everything regarding carrying in public - especially "hidden" - is so progressive as compared to early principals I'm a bit surprized it's caught on as far and fast as it has. Just think of the hoops we had to jump through just to get a gun to the range (ammo stored "three steps" from the gun, locked up, blah blah blah) and now we find ourselves being chided for not being cocked and locked when we run to the store for a pound of bologna? That's a big jump!
So yeah, the journey has begun, let folks travel at their own pace - the last thing we need are a bunch of nervous Nellies packin' heat before they're ready. Educate and support, but don't push anyone out of their comfort zone - the zone will grow over time.

One in the Pipe?
I carry an XD-45 in a Blackhawk Serpa paddle holster, and ALWAYS have it fully charged with 14 rounds of 180 gr. JHP. The holster has positive retention, so anyone trying to yank my weaon out of the holster may pick me up by my belt, but won't get the weapon out. However, when I draw, it is like firing a double action revolver. Aim at target, pull the trigger. I have never liked the Israeli method of carryng the weapon uncocked, then racking the slide after drawing. To my mind, that is lunacy. The holster makes you grip the gun properly, and the release makes you have your finger alongside the slide as you draw. A noted instructor has forbidden his students from using the Serpa in his classes, While I respect him personally, we had a heated debate on this point. Neither of us will change our minds, so we agree to disagree. I have been a deputy sheriff and have carried about 30 years, from revolvers to a Glock, an S&W 4506, a 1911, and finally the XD. I have full confidence in my XD working if TSHTF.

Don't worry about some you will always find one that is annoyed with questions but then they seem to answer them anyway.

Best response.
I didn't carry +1 until I felt comfortable myself.
But it was a new gun to me that I wanted to become my new
daily carry.

That is a good way to think about it..

Carry the gun with an empty chamber until you feel comfortable that the gun will not discharge unless you want it to discharge.
It won't take long..

X2. I am an armored guard and now carry 24/7. I was completely new to handguns when I got my XDm at release of the original .40 and was a little leary of carrying loaded so I did just what was suggested and bought snap caps and loaded my mag full of live ammo and had a snap cap chambered. Spend a few days around the house like this to get used to the weight and confident that your striker pin stays out at all times no matter what. I can say from experience that in over two years of having my weapon beat on relentlessly by armored truck doors, vaults, concrete and so forth inside of a Safariland holster that XDm is one of the toughest, safest guns I personally have been around. It shows almost no wear and at first I unloaded it every night when I got home and re-racked it every morning for fear that it was delicate when hot... It is not! I quit unloading unless I am switching out ammo as all I was doing was eating the back of my HSTs down! But as stated YOU need to be fully comfortable with YOUR weapon. It is genuinely to be an extension of you in your mind that you control as your other muscle movements. Great choice of gun BTW.
