The area I live in is also more metropolitan and walking into a crowded Wal-Mart or Target with my XD out in the open would just be asking for someone to call the police on me as a "threat" or a BG, when in fact I'm just exercising my rights as a NC resident to OC.

To prevent the headaches I'll just CC my XD or pocket carry my SP101 and know I have the firepower is SHTF and I need it.
I've had an issue ONCE, and home depot apologized for it. Its not as bad as you might think. People are not staring at you and most don't notice your gun I don't think. The ones that do probably think you're a cop most of the time. The ones that have a problem with it? Thats their problem.

Tcox, great post. I really like well thought out responses that counter mine to give me things to think about. I need to find a state with reciprocity (if needed) and OC so I can actually try something before passing judgement.

I OC quit often, and can only think of one occasion in the past year of so that anyone said anything. It was an older couple in line behind me at the supermarket. They spoke quietly to each other about how I "must not realize how dangerous it is, and makes other uncomfortable". I overhead this, but chose to ignore it. The attempted to keep it to themselves, and are entitled to their opinion.

Many people do mistake you for a police officer. You'll hear children mumble something to their parents, and the parents responds with, "thats a police man dear". This makes more people comfortable with your OC'ing.

The "ghetto element" get nervous around you. They will avoid eye contact and give a wide berth. This may also come from an assumption that you are the "Poh-lease".

Living it Colorado, it can be difficult to OC in the winter, wearing a large coat. CCW is almost a must.

Well put tcox, I like the way you think.

Rockerz, glad to hear another postive experience of OC in Georgia.

My wife and I were having the OC vs. CC conversation just the other night as I just applied for my GFL and was debating which holster to get first.
