I'd look for a Finnish M39...or a Swedish M96.

My vote is 100% for the K-31 Swiss. I have it's predecessor, the 1911 carbine which also shoots the 7.5X55.
The gp11 ammo is fairly easy to find and is match grade ammo out of the box.
There are websites dedicated to the K-31 where you can pick up scope mounts and such.

The Walther P-1? Post WWII version of Germany's P-38; I believe production started in the late '50s/early '60s and the P-1 was used by German military and police. Don't own one... did get to inspect and handle one at my old LGS... I like the feel in hand. It's been on my "to buy" list for a long time.

Thanks for all the replies and input. I went back to my original intent for getting into C&R (WWII era by WWII participants) and decided on a 1935 German 98K with all intact markings. More than I wanted to spend but I have been looking for one and am happy with the purchase.

From what I understand from frequenting various forums you are handling this criticism completely wrong. You are supposed to get bent out of shape and start turning towards personal attacks.

So it the Swedish M96...tack hammer accurate and less recoil than the K-31.

Anyone who's into C&R knows that ammo can get expensive depending on what you shoot. I prefer not to have a bajillion (technical term) different calibers since I like to be able to shoot the guns I own. Since you already have two Mosin Nagants I would steer you towards an M44 so you can continue to utilize the 7.62x54R ammo I'm sure you already have on hand. If then Walther P1 catches your eye I think that's the direction I would go, 9mm luger is just plain common and cheap. Just my two cents, but then again I try to consolidate calibers to make things less expensive and easier on logistics.
Other posters have already indicated the Tokarev, CZ 82, P64, Makarov etc. I'll let you be the judge when it comes to those. Tokarev feels and shoots much like a 1911. The Bulgarian Makarov has a sweet single action trigger that's surprisingly accurate. I'd love to get my hands on a CZ 82 since they have a double stack magazine. The Polish P64 would make an excellent carry piece when it has to disappear and with slight modifications the double action trigger can be remedied. Again just remember 7.62x25 and 9x18 aren't as common, YMMV, but they are harder to find in my neck of the woods.
