Decisions, Decisions

I've really been wanting to purchase a bolt action .308 lately but am undecided on exactly what I want. Im looking at an R700 sps with the heavy barrel, or possibly a ruger m77 also with the heavier barrel. Anyone got any insight?

Remington are awesome...but, just to make things difficult, I have a Savage 11 that is awesome...sorry, I'm a total Savage fan, great shooters, and extremely to modify yourself. When I do my part, I can shoot sub 1/2 MOA with mine

My savage was under $500 including the cheap scope, $80 for a better trigger and that's been the only mod other than upgrading to a better scope. I really can't say enough good about the savage rifles. if you have questions about them, let me know, I don't know quite as much about Rem and Ruger rifles

I have both the Remington 700 SPS and the Remington 770 in .308. If money is a concern, go with the 770. It's not a tack driver, but the price is hard to beat.

Rem 700's are good shooters for sure with a proven track record of reliability. The Rugers are surprisingly accurate as well and I've shot some decent groups at 400 yards with a 22-250 version. Savage rifles are very much misunderstood and underrated. The thing about them is the company reliazes that the barrel is the soul of the rifle and if properly mated to a good action one can get pretty amazing results. Combine that with the accutrigger and you have a winning combination in a very affordable package.

One main aspect to good consistent accuracy is good glass and a common train of thought is to spend more on the glass than the rifle itself. Quality glass insures adjustability, clarity and durability that the cheaper products wimply cannot provide.

very true, which is why, after I get a match grade barrel for my custom build, I'll be saving the 2k for a huge upgrade in scope. My $460 savage is turning into a multi-K investment...mainly because I like to tinker.
