What is it about certain people that they have to "One-Up" other people on every subject?

I just got back from a very short deployment to Qatar and I met one of the worst one-uppers that I ever had the pleasure of bitch slapping with knowledge.

This guy was one of those that just had to have a better, faster, cooler, neater, or whatever than you.

As I always do, I got on to the subject of firearms and I was talking about hitting a 20in steel plate at 500 yards. Mister One-Up had to start in on how his 7mm Mag made a 10 shot 3in group at 1000 yards.

The World Record for 1000 Yards is 10 shot 4.2in group with a specialized Benchrest Rifle shooting 6mmBR. I mean come on!! This guy has a world championship hunting rifle??? Give me a break!! If you are going to lie try a white lie. Not a flaming pink gay ass lie like that!!!

Well it didn't end there. I was treated to a story about ringing a 150yard steel plate with a 22. That is not that hard to do but this time the guy was adamant that he was using the 60gr Sniper Subsonic Load from Aguila. Not possible with a standard 22 rifle. NOT POSSIBLE!! Those bullets keyhole at 10 yards out of a standard 22 rifle(which is what he said he had).

I am not the kind of guy that can stand to have this stuff said to me. I am not the kind of person that will slack off on someone that is BLATANTLY WRONG! No! Not happening!

Is that wrong? Is that the kind of thing you should just let go?

I don't know.

I just don't want people getting the wrong idea about what is real and what is fake. What can be done and what can't.

The Moral is...

Don't lie. Don't try to "look" cool because you can. Someone will eventually put you in your place.
